View Full Version : if the media is really so liberal....

why is sarah palin getting a free pass from the major news outlets?
i'll ignore the fact that most of her speeches are filled with half truths, misleading statements, and outright lies because we all know the media doesn't do fact checking anymore and just concentrates on sensationalized bullshit anyways.
here's a few things i will take issue with though.
no other candidate would be allowed to shut out the press like she has.
no other candidate would be able to go to church and say the war in iraq is god's plan or that people should pray for a pipeline without a national story being made of it for a month.
no other candidate would get so much positive press when they're in the middle of an abuse of power scandal.
no other candidate could have had involvement in a secessionist movement without a massive shitstorm hitting them.
no other candidate could be (what amounts to) pro book burning without at least being questioned on it.
i know there are palin threads already, but i feel this topic deserves it's own.

Seriously, the media needs to pick up on this church thing. The Wright stuff was played over and over for like a month.

uh...feminists are liberal. attacking a woman candidate is obviously sexist, so they're not going to call her out on shit. i thought it was obvious

sexism really is a beautiful thing.
I think everyone knows that the first network that goes after her is going to feel the wrath of the GOP.

yeah, but the gop is (for the most part) watching fox news anyways so i don't see why that would be a big concern.

the entire media is controlled by four companies, they pander to the GOP. You don't think GE benefits from a war? Please. There is a reason Zucker and Capus pulled Olbermann. The media is bullshit.

i think we have a real answer here.
it shouldn't be suprising that the candidate that is saying they'll raise taxes for the top 5 percent (the people running the media included) tends to get more negative press on things the other side gets a free pass on.

Being in the media, I can totally tell you that its all about money ("ratings") talks, and bullshit walks. You have to be savvy enough to navigate through the bullshit and find the facts on everything going on. Quite frankly, people call the Huffington Post liberal, and the GOP rails it, but I swear that site has stories up, and a day later, the AP/MSM's are all over it. Viacom, Disney, GE, and News Corp have completely destroyed Americans getting 100% real news.

if it was all about ratings why was olberman pulled?
i don't think it's about ratings so much as it's about the pockets of the ceo's and various board members running the big 4.

Olbermann was pulled because they said it was like Bill O'Reilly leading Fox's convention coverage. I don't buy that shit for a minute. Give me a fucking break. The heads of GE were mad people chanted "NBC!" at the GOP convention. Don't go against the family.

yeah......somehow i doubt if fox would pull o'reilly if they put him in charge of leading the dnc coverage.

Why do they rail on Bristol and the fetus? Because Sarah put them out into the fire by introducing them. That and getting voters because of it were the ONLY impetuses behind that fucking atrocious move. On the stuff they do NOT put out there willingly, they are awarded padding for protection.

the thing about bringing up that stuff is that it isn't really a negative thing, the republicans love it and the democrats are mostly indifferent unless they feel like pointing out the complete and utter hypocrisy the republicans are displaying in liking bristol getting knocked up before marriage.

People need to find a way for sites like thinkprogress.org to be a part of the mainstream media rather than just a gathering place for the relatively small group that like to research candidates. It's quite sad at the lengths you have to go to get quality information that is relevant and of substance rather than just bullshit like lipstick on pigs or debates over what is sexist and what isn't.
Every day I see more and more why the rest of the world laughs at us.

I agree that it's hard to find real information...but at the same time, the information is AVAILABLE. You have to dig for it, but it's there for anybody to find. With the stakes being so high--with this being one of the biggest turning points in American history--I can't understand why people are satisfied with making judgments based on tabloid fodder. After eight years, shouldn't people be awake?
Maybe I'm not making sense. But I expected more from the election than this.

People are dumb. Look you are 16, so I know it's hard for you to believe this -- adults, even adults you think are smart -- are for the most part complete idiots when it comes to voting. My grandmother is completely for McCain, and she's a smart woman. My aunt and uncle, completely for McCain, the typical "small town" voters. People. Are. Fucking. Idiots.

Maybe I'm not making sense. But I expected more from the election than this.I'm starting to wonder if people realize how important the President's role is to the functioning of our country. It just doesn't seem like people care either way which is sad. Another underlying current is people now are more self-involved than ever and our minds are focused on a million things at once so most don't take the time to sit and think about their future in terms of how this election will affect it. I'm not sure if that's as widespread as I think but from what I've seen it seems like a reasonable theory.

I've always felt that the media tends to release information like this regarding candidates when it is useful, like weapons in a political arsenal. I'll bet that every thing you listed will be covered plenty during the weeks before the election.
