Alkaline Trio (http://www.alkalinetrio.com) entered into the studio this week with producer Jerry Finn to begin work on their new record which is being aimed for a spring release.

I have mixed feelings about this.
I love this band something fierce, but they've gone down hill. After a sub-par album (GM) and seveal strong songs on random eps (RAB, OMA split) I dont know if this will be killer or mediocore. I'm hoping for the former.

They've gone steadily down hill. Whats with the goth imagery now a days? What happened to the drunks I know and love?

i dont have anything against good mourning. All i have to say is that the old stuff is better. But hopefully they will make something awesome.
I will always enjoy them no matter what.

I have to say I love Good Mourning, really do - and am so excited... If, as they have said, the stuff they are writing sounds like "Sadie" off the One Man Army Split EP then it should be amazing - that song is maybe the best they ever wrote, so...

sub-par album (GM)
what exactly is par?

i can't wait to hear this. and the band has definitely not gone downhill whatsoever...they have grown. it's one thing to say that their sound has changed some and you like the old stuff better, but that doesn't mean they're "worse". i highly doubt that years of touring and practicing on vocals and instruments has made them WORSE at what they do.

They still sing about drinking, and they've always had "goth" imagery. "Trouble Breathing" and "Dead End Road" are as dark as anything on Good Mourning.

I can understand you thinking good Mourning is sub-par for Alkaline Trio (for ALKALINE TRIO - still above par for most similar bands) becuase i've heard that said alot, BUT how can you possibly say you liked the One Man Army split but not Good Mourning? That split was just a continuation of the same types of songs seen on GM, in fact they weren't even nearly as good though i did enjoy them. Anyways, in my own opinion GM is probably one of the best Alkalne Trio albums out there and I hope the new one builds upon what they did with that.

I have to say that I am seriously stoked, but very frightened about this album. They've been slowly going downhill since FHTI. Good Mourning was okay, but it wasn't as good as their other work. This could be a bright new beginning, or the nail in the coffin for Alkaline Trio.
And the reason that they don't sing so much about drinking is because if I'm not mistaken, Matt quit drinking.

Well put, they definitely have grown, and sound more mature and older...better for the wear, I'd say. I love Goddamnit, but I really like where this band is going. I'm a little fearful that they didn't make any big sound changes in between "Infirmary" and "Mourning"...I hope they're not heading in the cookie-cutter direction. With a title like "Church and Destroy", I'm a little worried. But hey, it's Alkaline Trio... I'm damned excited.

alkaline trio is one of the best bands out there, they can do no wrong.
I'm excited :35:
i love this band, have for years, i just think they're one of those bands that unless they write "radio" or "nose over tail" over and over, there's people that will bitch.
it's the norm for people to insist that any band's old shit was better, and while i do agree that their old shit is different than the new shit, it's all pretty good. and while i wouldn't say they're going downhill, i will say that the only album that has a song i don't like (with the exception of a cover here and there) is good mourning (donner party sucked).
but again, just my opinion and i'm really stoked for the new stuff.
ps. bringing back matt allison would be a great idea. i'd be curious to see what he could do with them since their new stuff is way poppier than the trio of old.
Hi, I'm new here. I must admit that I love Good Mourning. The first 2 records on Asian Man had good some good songs, but I hated the production.

agreed. I skip the most songs on GM as apposed to their other albums, which I usually listen to all the way through. It's alright though, I'll have love for them no matter what. :pengy:

how about some more of stuff like clavicle? I love that song so much.
Or sleepyhead?or drinking wine? Bring back the old! But then again if matt did stop drinking which i can't believe, he wont write about drinking or anything like that. Maybe he'll write about how he misses it.Or write about how it use to be.who knows.I know it still will be great!

I'm beginning to wonder how many of the people who say they miss the drinking songs, actually drink.

With an album name like Church and Destroy, I don't see how it could be bad. I love this band, they kick ass, the stuff on the OMA split was amazing. If it's anything like that: Thumbs up.
