Last night at the Finch (http://www.finchmusic.com) and Saosin (http://www.saosin.com) show, Finch played five new songs. They didn't say the name of two of them, but the other three from what I heard were: "Ink", "Insomniatic Meat", and "Miro." They also refused to play "Letters To You" and R2K said the new album would be coming out in "March ... 2055."

That's not the point, the point is a lot of their fans like that song...and just because they're too hardcore to play it now (or so they think) doesn't mean they shouldn't play it.

They don't like playing the fucking song. It's their band. It sucks anyway.

I just find it disrespectful to fans that go to a show and want to hear a band they like play a certain song.

Yea but what is the song like five years old? No one likes playing too much of their old shit.

True, true...but when the other times there have been posts about this and the band themselves say the song sucks just annoys me because they wrote it and suddenly it's like they're too cool to play it or something. I dunno maybe I am reading into it too much but that's how it sounds to me.

last time i saw them nobody seemed to be into the new stuff at all. thank god counterfit and recover played.

dont get me wrong, i still like the old stuff, and i liked worms of the earth even, but the newer stuff (musically) and thier overall performance (old and new stuff) seemed to lack a lot when i saw them here in toledo.

did i catch them on a bad day or did it seem like they wanted to be glassjaw meets deftones way too much?

It's their show...they'd be selling out to the fans and just being their "pawns" so to speak if they played every song the fans yelled out at them. Yeah, it's cool when bands do that every now and then, out of the blue, but they're sick of playing the song ok, it doesn't mean anything to them anymore, they get bored playing it. They're not too "cool" they've just matured. Do you still listen to your old Weird Al records...well there ya go.

Yeah, i agree, is just a progression thing. Personally I love "Letters To You", i would love for them to play it when I go see them, but if it's not going to happen then I respect their decision. Looking forward to the new LP in a big way, the new stuff sounds so good live.

(Though they'd better not stop playing "What It Is To Burn"...).

did i catch them on a bad day or did it seem like they wanted to be glassjaw meets deftones way too much?how you think the new material sounds like GlassJaw or Deftones is beyond me, those 2 bands obviously had an influence on them but these new songs are in their own caliber and I for one am sick of people beating that horse to fucking death, listen to the songs and if you would like to tell me that A Man Alone sounds like GlassJaw or that Insomniatic Meat sounds like Deftones then your opinion is in void. Honestly I am a huge Deftones fan but these new songs are light years ahead of anything they have done in terms of complexity. All in all Finch have taken their influences such as the aforementioned bands and found their own unique niche.

how can anyone hate letters to you? whether or not he repeats i miss you alot doesnt change the fact that the song is catchy and written well. If they dont play it anymore because they wanna fit into the "harder" scene then fuck them for that but otherwise that songs fucking good.

I can see where you're coming from but, being in a band myself, sometimes you just get really tired of playing certain songs and you just don't want to play them anymore. Do you really want to see a band play a song that they are essentially being forced, or at least guilted, into playing? They won't have any emotion and they won't be enjoying themselves. Embrace the change... And drive home listening to the old cd.

The new stuff sounded really good live actually. Obviously alot of fans couldn't get into it that much because they simply didn't know it and hadn't heard it before which is what happens when a band plays material that hasn't been released yet. I was into it just the same because I have the Glasshouse bootleg and so I was familiar with most of the new songs already. Also Ink is by far my favorite new song. They didn't play Bitemarks though!?

I personally thought it was kinda neat they don't play letters to you. People change, successful bands have to keep changing up the set list to keep things interesting. Finch's new songs I heard back in july were amazing.

You all should have been at the denver show in july, R2K "for the first time ever" played a medley of letters to you, stay with me, and bury me. actually it was just the opening riffs, but it was pretty funny.

new finch album is gonna be good i think...blah blah blah..they sold out...blah blah blah. I think finch is one of the most honest bands out there in terms of their performance and sound, they do what they want not what a bunch of little whiny kids on a message board want. Letters to you was boring live and too many people crowd surfed during that song anyways....least they still play wiitb right?

my only gripe is that I don't know the new songs and couldn't sing along...other than that after seeing them for the sixth time they still amazed me. The 4th and a little bit on the 5th time I was getting a little worried, but this last time really reinforced my confidence in them as a band.

so there...

Maybe they want fans who like them for more than just one song. When I saw POTUSA everyone was like "Play Lump/Peaches" and get off the stage"...but they have so much quality stuff, and are probably so damn sick of playing those songs (even though they did end up playing them)

You probably get sick of hearing overplayed songs, so imagine writing one and recording it 1000 times before anyone else even hears it, then playing it every single night for 1000 more times.

hehe, wow, you're taking r2k way too seriously, bands have been doing stuff like that forever...examples:

I remember seeing Freddie Mercury (Queen) introduce crazy little thing called love at wembley in '86 and he called the audience "a bunch of lovely crazy ***gots" and they played a sold out show the next night and added more shows...he obviously didn't upset anyone...

also in 82 when referring to stuff off their hot space album he said they were gonna play some songs from it and "if you don't like it then fucking go home" ...hmm and they played sold out live shows for 4 more years after that.

but he was obviously bad mouthing his fans who came to their show...what an ass.....lol...seriously man....can't you take a joke?

Who cares what they play or don't play. If you don't like it don't go to their shows. I've seen them a few times recently and their last show @ the El Rey in LA was awesome. Their new stuff sounds okay. Its just taking them a long time. By the time they are done they won't be in the mainstream and will be able to play smaller venues. This album is probably going to be the untimely demise of this band anyway.

you people are nuts. They don't want to play a song in the repetoire, oh well. Going to disappoint some fans, and some others will be overjoyed because they are playing a different song that they love instead. Happens all the time, r2k and the guys are different because they are very vocal about their decisions...which, if you ask me, is a refreshing thing.

When I saw the 5 new songs live I was more than impressed. On what it is to burn, there are a few exceptional tracks that blow me away every time I listen to them. I feel like the new tracks were an extension of that, and some of the cheesy pop-punkness was filtered out.

So i will wait for March 2055 with anticipation!

ah, i was so close too, it sounded like "meat" the first time he said it and "me" the second time, so i guessed the one that made sense to me. and for "Miro" he basically sounded like he said "mawaow" so try to make that into a word, haha... thanks thou

My experience was the same. They just came on stage, played some songs, Randy screwed around, they played some more songs, the band walked offstage, Nate and Randy came back, played Ender, Nate walked offstage and Randy screwed around with his sample machine then walked offstage. The crowd really didn't know it was over. . . if they hadn't played Ender, nobody would've guessed they were done.

It was just weird. When they played the new songs, they didn't say anything about them, like titles or anything.

I really don't know what to make of all this. It seems like they're just not into it anymore, but then you stop and think that they've been recording for the past year, so they must still be into it.

I'm not positive...I know their first name was Numb and Awake was the first song they ever wrote. If they were a Deftones cover band they'd probably have a name that was a reference to one of their songs and I think their guitars would be lower than D flat.

interesting fact: Loudermilk started out covering guns n roses.

I have seen finch three times. The last time was at the glasshouse last weekend. I just wanna say that they sucked. You should judge a band like Finch by how crazy the fans are going and most people were pretty bummed out. Finch played mostly new stuff, changing tunning in the middle of songs, taking the distortion off the guitars and slowing everything down. The only old songs they played sounded like shit because they either changed them or played them badly. The worst part of the show was how they acted between songs. They acted like complete douce bags, making fun of the scene and the audience and generally acting like little spoiled brats who want to make their new kind of music and dont care what the fans think.
