Teacher’s Pet - Teacher’s Pet
Record Label: Smog Veil Records
Release Date: April 8, 2008

Who?

Teacher’s Pet were a short-lived pop-punk band from Ohio that existed in the late 1970’s. They formed in 1977, but only released one single before subsequently breaking up in 1980.

How is it?

Teacher’s Pet is the record’s worth of material that was recorded in 1979, but only released earlier this year. As for how the actual album goes, it’s very fun and quite different from most pop-punk bands out today. Instead of power chords and bridges, it’s classic rock infused with elements of pop and punk. Throughout several songs, there are solos visibly influenced by classic rock artists. The lyrics, however, are something else: teetering on the fine line between being a punk and being a creep, the song themes range from the familiar anti-authority anthems (“Can’t Do That”) to hinting at statutory rape (“Meet Me at the Hot Dog Stand in a Half Hour, But Don’t Tell Your Dad”). Still, don’t judge the guys who want to date the pretty 15-year old yet - they make pretty enjoyable music. In the end though, that’s all it is: pretty enjoyable. Teacher’s Pet is hardly a mind-blowing record, but more of something you would put on to cheer you up after a hard day.
