Now I understand what some people are saying about people going overboard with straight edge. Those people that start fights and do stuff like this against people who don't share their views are militant straight edge assholes.

Also, in regards to those who said it was a fad. It's not just a fad, it's more of a lifestyle. I don't go around and proclaim to the masses "I am straight edge, I am superior" but I will stand for what I believe in. If asked for my opinion I will give it, I have friends who drink and do things I don't agree with but they're my friends. I will also try to keep the kids who haven't done it from starting to do it. My opinion is that they don't need to. Lit's comments about straight edge people not being able to have fun and basically passing them off as lamers isn't true, that opinion comes off as elitist to the party lifestyle. Ultimately it is each person's decision as to what they want to do, I just want them to know they don't have to do it as the social pressures for people nowadays can sometimes make people feel like they have to. So I may not wear the t-shirts someone mentioned in this thread but if I did I'd have no problem doing so, I wear my "It's OK not to drink" patch because that's where I stand and I think people should know that. I've been a long time absolutepunk fan but never registered. This actually caught my attention because I was at this show. Lit played a great set; actually played to the crowd. Tallahassee is, of course, a college town and most people only knew the "Place in the Sun" material...they were really rock and roll and a lot of fun.
The truth is, there is a straight edge scene in Tallahassee that is out of control. They call themselves the straight edge mafia and its a bunch of little high schoolers that run around and do stupid stuff like this all the time. I wish I could apologize to Lit! first of all, as said before i'm straight edge, but i'm not "hate edge". most of my friends AREN'T sXe, and i don't beat anyone up because of what they do with their own lives. just like choosing NOT to smoke/drink is my own life decision, choosing TO smoke/drink is someone elses life decision, and i have no choice but to respect that.

i dont know man, lostprophets are pretty big. chad (nfg) is also edge, and i also hear benji and joel GC are edge.....a band composed entirely of straight edge members may never hit the charts, but as you can see there are PLENTY of straight edge people in huge bands....and these are only people that are STILL edge, theres hundreds more that were edge at one point, such as Fat mike (NOFX), Zack de la rocha (RATM, he actually was in a straightedge band called inside out), so yeah. there are alot more straight edge artists than you think. you dont have to claim it to be it.

Perfectly stated Scott. I have a lot of respect for you... there are very few people around in the "scene" that follow a set of beliefs without trying to press them on someone else. I'm a Catholic, and I am always discouraged by members of my or any other religion that try to press beliefs on others, or try to change laws to follow their beliefs system.

Beliefs, whether it be religion or lifestyle, should be optional. There is plenty of information on the effects of drugs and alcohol on the internet. As I said, I'm Catholic. I don't smoke anything but I do enjoy having a few beers every now and then. I eat meat. This is what's right for me, but it might not be right for you. Do what feels right for you, and enjoy the way you live your life, but don't try to make anyone else's decisions for them.

for the most part im actually very impressed with the views of those of you that posted supporting edge. my two good friends are both edge while i am not and never once have pushed edge on me. the bottom line is its a personal choice. it shouldnt matter to anyone if someone else is edge as well. ive lost so much interest in hardcore/metal due to many of the trendy "edge" kids. its go to see on this post that not all of you are stuck up and want to start shit. Lits remarks were completely ludicrous and false. They clearly have not met many straight edge kids, and the ones they have met are clearly in it simply for scene points. In there defense many of the "tough guy" hxc kids are capable of doing something as drastic and rediculous as vandalizing a bus and trailor. Im not saying all kids in the tough guy scene would do something like this. But as someone who had been going to a minimum of 5 shows a week, they lost there fun due to many of the tough guy bands. i was at the terror show at the whisky in los angeles when they started a riot due to alcohal being served in the venue. this is not called for, nor does it have a place with music. these bands should support their beliefs, whether it be with lyrics, tatoos, clothing etc. they have no right to damage someones property for disagreeing with their views, nor do non-edge kids have any right to start something with kids that are edge. to those of you who posted defending edge on this post, i hope to see you guys at more shows, you define what the scene once was and its good to see that there is still some good out there.

First of all I dont think it was Remembering Never. I think the guys in RN are much "smarter" than that.

I listen to Remembering Never, I read their lyrics and I know the message their sending, theirs nothing wrong with being "clean". Now im not edge or anything but damn anyone who can resist sex is good, real good! I have edge friends and i do hang out with their edge friends...and yes they do talk about it and give me reasons to be edge, but its not like i get mad over someone telling me what they believe in. i definitely agree, but when shows that last year were mostly 18-20 year olds and are now 14-16 year olds it becomes a problem. when the hardcore/metal scene and everything that goes with it (ex: dancing) spills over to shows like Taking Back Sunday it becomes a problem. the scene is not about anything it was 4 years ago. its not about unity, its about who knows more, who likes the more obscure and unknown bands, this is why im embarrased about the scene. ive all but left it in LA anyway...the la shows are dominated by young kids who think they are all knowing and its obnoxious. i recently went to a couple of shows in arizona where the vibe is different. i didnt mean to come off like terror is edge, i dont like them nor do i know anything about them, i was simply stating that bands like that are ruining the scene and i know they deserve a certain respect because of who their lead guy is. but regardless of that riots do not belong in a scene that used to promote unity, its just sad to see. its sad to go to a show for bands you love and have an awful time because kids/bands dont know how to act.
