I had to write a journal response for English class the other day about my most influential teacher that I have had to date. So I just thought it would be cool to see if you guys have had any really cool teachers.
I've had a select few teachers that have been really cool throughout school so far. My global history teacher this year has been awesome. He takes the time to really get to know his students and shows them almost a higher level of respect than most teachers do. For example, he has this one bulletin board that he posts just random articles on there and he saw that I took a liking to the one about Interpol and the Killers. So the next day he came in with a few newspaper clippings about about Death Cab, The Postal Service, Interpol, etc. for me. Then asked me if I could burn him The Cure's cd. He's done stuff like that for more than 75% of his students. He tries to take interest in their lives I guess.
Then last year my English teacher was awesome too. He was so sarcastic and funny. But then he had that serious, philosophical side to him too. And his assignments were out of the ordinary. He kind of encouraged us to think differently and never scolded our opinions (as my English teacher this year does).
But what about you guys?

Yeah, I had a math teacher in high school who was amazing. He made sure that everyone understood everything he taught, but he would also take the time to teach you things more important than math, like life lessons. A lot of times he would end class early just to talk to students about stuff. He always walked around and talked to everyone, he was their friend, not just their teacher. He was also pretty cool too. He used to have barbeques on the school roof for seniors until we got a new principal who wouldn't let him. One time we went to class on a make up snow day which they decided should be the monday of our spring break, so when we got to class he said "you shouldn't be here, have some ice cream and go home." He had bought like 2 gallons of ice cream and all these toppings and let us all leave school an hour or so early. Definately the best teacher I've ever had, and the funniest. I'll leave you with one of the funniest moments ever:
Some kid named Charles makes a really stupid comment, Mr. B. puts his hand over his mouth to keep himself from laughing or saying anything to make fun of him. Then a kid named Matt says "Charles, just shut the fuck up!", so Mr. B. says "Um, Matt, you can read my mind as long as you don't read it out loud, okay?"

Yeah, Great Teacher Onizuka. Just kidding.
Really though, most of the teachers I've had don't really care about their students lives although at least a good half care to actually explain things. My ISciS teacher last year was pretty funny and class wasn't as hectic as the other classes I've had.

my favorite teacher was my 10th grade english honors teacher who was also my latin teacher 10th, 11th, and 12th grade... everyone thought she was weird, she didn't wear shoes and she smoked and she cussed at us sometimes but she also had the most interesting classes
she was pretty demanding and sometimes i really didn't like her, but when i got her approval it was like the best feeling in the world. and she really cared about what i could do, like when i was starting to slip in my grades she would pull me aside and be like "you can do better than this, what's going on with you"
and she never taught out of a teacher's guide. most of the teachers i had all through high school never really knew their shit, but she knew it like inside and out, it was pretty damn cool

Definitely my Bio teacher. I don't think that I've ever seen a teacher as enthusiastic about coming to school and teaching as he was. He also fermented his own beer. But ya... he's another reason why I decided to be a Bio major.

i had a really great form tutor when i was at school, he was one of those teachers that you could tell really had a passion for what he did. i felt so bad for him though, at my school (and where i live in general) people are really jelous of those who try hard and want to succeed and learn. so a lot of the time he just got abuse from people in my class, and never got anywhere.
even still, he was great to talk to. we used to talk about politics all the time, i even went on an anti-war march with him and a couple of other teachers. he just inspired me to forget a lot of the kids at school that just wanted to bring everyone else down and made it feel ok for me to actually like learning. if it wasnt for the odd gem like him i'd probably not have the confidence to try for my goals. he was awesome.

I've had a few:
My ninth grade English teacher: She was a very nice, compassionate woman. It was her first year teaching and everyone took advantage of her; I thought it was horrible that someone would do that to such a nice woman. She ended up recommending me for honors English. I now have a love for the subject because of her.
My Biology teacher: She gave me a lot of confidence. I don't know what else to say about her.
My Math teacher this year: I don't understand math in the slightest, and with her teaching I was able to get a 90 in her class first quarter and this quarter I remain at an 89 average. She is just a clear teacher who is always willing to help. I still don't understand the subject, but she makes it bearable for me.

I think my favorite teacher was Mr. Shewell. He was my US history teacher. I learned a lot in his class. And he really held my atttention.
This year i have a really good ap lit teacher. He's really cool, i like him, i've learned a lot.
I think my coolest teachher would have to be my freshman english teacher. She's younger than most the teachers i've ever had, so she was cool. But i didn't really learn much in her class.
My english teacher, who I've had for 6th grade and then in 9th grade, 10th and 11th, was very influential. It first was a pain having her in 6th grade and then her moving to the high school having her for freshman year. Then in 10th grade she moved up to teaching 10th and I had her as a teacher, and now in 11th, she moved up to teaching 11th. She knows so much involving literature and none of the kids really like her, but I find her very informative and creative. It's the only class I can admit to actually liking.

My school is full of teachers who genuinely want to help and love their students. i'm so lucky to have that because i know a lot of other schools and kids can say don't have that. a teacher that stands out in my mind is my english teacher this year. He's really passionate and emotional about whatever he talks about and it seems like he remembers every single student he's ever taught. good guy.

One of my 9th grade teachers was really cool.He is so content and happy with his life. He is in his late 30's early 40's and he knows so much about the world. He is always encouraging everyone to go and and experience life. Just a few months ago someone told me his history. He became a millionaire for inventing some software for computers and investing in good stocks and he lived a really rich life but then he decided that his money wasn't doing any good. He sold nearly everything he owned and gave almost all of his savings to charities (several million dollars). Now he is teaching at a Catholic school, making only a little money and he is so happy with his life.
My 9th grade history teacher was amazing to. He is in his mid 80's and still going strong. He has been teaching at the same school since it opened in the 1950's. He knows his shit too. He tell al kinds of stories. He was part of the audience when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream..." speech. He also told us this story about how he was working late grading papers. He was living in Texas at the time. He worked at a non-segregated Catholic school. it was dark and he came out of the building and was shot THREE times by someone involved in a racist group. He has been through a ton of stuff and its amazing to hear his stories.
