You're a fucking idiot. It's not as simple as "we invaded them for oil" or "we didn't invade them for their oil." The world of international politics isn't tic-tac-toe.
As for your question, there are many factors contributing to the high price of oil at the moment: vastly increased demand in increasingly industrialized and highly populous countries like China, uncertainty about the state of crude oil during war time, and so on.

demand for oil is high in all countries right now. with us being in a country where oil is everywhere, theres no telling how much will be lost as compared to how much is aquired in a given year. so basicly as rennard said, it comes down to supply and demand. everyone wants it, and will pay any price for it.
but the price for a barrell should not be where its at. the oil industry has the world population by the nutsack.

it is a factor though, even reconstruction business is given to American companies out there despite Iraq having perfectly capable ones. Its all bout getting some dosh at the end of the day.

If you think gas is expensive in the states you should look at the price in other countries especially Japan then you will stop your bitching.
your best year

yeah we were talking about this in my history class today, i do live in the states but the US probally has the cheapest gas prices at the moment

because we aren't 100% dependent on foreign oil like most other countries. also, the reason prices are high for everyone isn't because there is a shortage of oil, its because OPEC refuses to produce oil at maximum capacity, supply is low while demand grows higher and higher, thus, the price goes up. i can remember a time when we payed 89 cents for a gallon, so it isn't impossible, they just choose not to do it.

Last I heard OPEC is going to cut production down next year by 10%.
This is why the Bush administration needs to seriously look into alternative sources of energy and giving more money to scientific industries in order to do this.

Hell yah I'm looking forward to hydrogen cars that create a massive explosion when they get it wrecks. j/k but yah I totally agree with you. Electric cars, Hydrogen cars, Hybrid cars, whatever it is. Just not oil.

*cough* money *cough*
I suppose that they consider it "frivolous" spending to invest in such craziness as science.

hydrogen is safer that gasoline, if it catches on fire in a car wreck, since hydrogen is lighter than air, the flame shoots straight up , burns itself out and does little damage to the car (although if you are in an accident, i suppose that doesn't matter). gas is heavier than air so it sinks to the ground where the flames spread and will destroy the car and everything else around it and it is much harder to escape that situation if you are in the car.

While I do believe in supporting NASA and it's endeavors, there are a lot more worthwile things they could be investing in here on earth.

allowing NASA to further their research and conduct new missions will bring about a development of alternative fuels and propulsion, which will then make its way into civillian use.
Although, that's just speculation that they'll be able to do that.
We could actually be doing a lot more here for using cleaner energy sources. Example, when the diesel engine was made it was made for farmers who could use vegetable oil to make the engine run. There is also wind power and solar power that could also be of use.
Methane? Hell we got tons of it under the ocean, so much so that it could prove a very real threat to the world population.
But there are also many other things that we need to worry about, feeding a couple of billion people, deadly disease that kill thousands daily, there's a lot more to worry about than just oil

solar and wind power aren't that effecient, i'm not sure if that is the right word to use, but you need a lot of panels/windmills to generate any substantial power. as for the methane, it isn't easy to get to and mine and is dangerous, plus it is harmful to the atmosphere i believe (if released, but i think it burns clean).
cheap, reuseable, effeicent sources of power would help alot of people, and help solve alot of those other problems. plus the money saved alone would be beneficial.
