If you guys remember, I made a post (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=54008) last week about Classic Case (www.classiccase.net) dropping off their most recent tour. Mitch wasn't happy with the replies and the things people had to say about his band so he decided to clarify the situation with a message that I've posted in the replies. People need to learn when to shut their mouths on these forums. Seriously.

It really just doesn't have anything original to offer. It's good to begin with but just ends up being really poppy and shallow. The lyrics are good but it just doen't do it for me. It's like generic screamo, SOTY/New Used kind of. I haven't seen them live, maybe that makes the difference. What's weird is that I thought this same thing about the new TBS album and all of a sudden it's really growing on me.

Um, first off, I can only speak for myself. With that being said...

Frank didn't say it was wrong to rag on bands. He said it's wrong to rag on them for assuming things about them without knowing the facts. If they had been ragging on their music, then that would be something different, but their character was what was being attacked. Frank gave the perfect example. He rags on Bert's (The Used) stage antics and performance and the way he presents himself and so forth 'cause those aren't assumptions - those are clear cut depictions of someone. If The Used were to cancel dates and then Frank said "it's cause they're lazy and don't give a crap about their fans" then maybe there would be a comparable argument. I also don't see were we name dropped. I've never gone on this site and said "I know (such and such) so bow to me and I'll talk smack about whatever and whoever I want." I also have no problem being associated with you AP users as you can ask many of them I have numerous time carried on conversations with them (online and at shows), hung out with, etc. I don't think I'm anything special for being on staff. Also, when I was a forum user I never talked smack about bands unless it was based on my PERSONAL experiences with them or just my thoughts about their music - I never assumed who they were as individuals based on something I had no clue about.

I have an idea about why there is so much smack-talkin' on this site nowadays. Back in the day when absolutepunk.net started, it was a small website that was for fans of the "punk" music scene or whatever you want to call it these days. I myself first started to come to the website religiously when Student Rick was the featured band. People then didn't talk shit, or at least not nearly as much because it was more of a community, people were more supportive of one another because the site was small enough to really not attract the "haters". As time went on, absolutepunk.net got got bigger and bigger and now it's at the point it's at today. There have been newspaper articles and the sort written about this site, which garners attention and some kind of celebrity. With celebrity comes trash-talkers. There will always be people who talk shit about something, and that's their perrogative. The internet is a haven for people to talk shit about something. It's like bullying in grade school, they have no self-confidence and so they take it out on someone else, the whole lowering someone else's status to make yourself feel better. It's impossible for things to go back to the way they were with the majority of people writing intelligent posts. Relating this to my love life, there is no use in crying over spilled milk, people are going to talk shit, not much can be done at the moment about that. So if you can't change something you don't like, all you can do is change your attitude towards it. I'm not saying enjoying the moronic posts such as "lame" or ones calling out the PC patrol, but I'm saying just lower the level of hatred you hold for them. It takes a bigger man to walk away from a fight than it does to fight.

For Jared and Frank, I know when you say the word "retarded" you don't actually mean a person who is handicapped mentally, but realize that some people do take offense to it. As staff on this website, you're looked up to somewhat by the other posters here, as such it isn't unreasonable to believe that you should be held to a bit of a higher standard than the average poster. That being said, you AP staffers really just need to realize that you're doing your job and you're doing it well. The site has come light years from where it was, and honestly I feel like I've seen a general increase in maturity from the staff. Classic Case are still unsigned becuase they didnt want to take shitty offers from the indi and major labels that offered them deals. So what they did was spend 3 months making the record they wanted to make and hopefully someone who beleives in the band will really get behind it. Most bands think record by record, but Classic Case have some big people behind them who make them think more long term which is a good thing. Lots of bands are stuck for 4 records on indis, and most bands if they dont sell on a major get dropped after the first single doesnt hit...

I enjoy the interaction with fans and friends. Every once in a while a comment just rubs me the wrong way, and maybe I overreact sometimes (i haven't really said anything in this thread) but it's only because of the astonishing frequency in which it happens. It seems a news post can't be made without some user coming in and talking smack about a band. I'm just kind of sick of it, you know?

Do you remember when the scene wasn't a competition? Where it wasn't a battle for musical eliteness? The mere fact that I even have to CONSIDER what people will say when I make my Sunday Recommendations tells me enough. I KNOW that if I recommend a certain band, there will be at least three users who rip into the band and take attention away from the other six bands I recommended. It's not even about recommending anymore, it's about avoiding conflict. I swear that's how it goes. That being said, I've never shyed away from recommending what I've listened to because of that. I just know it's going to happen - the fact that I can count on it...

No worries man, I was just trying to clarify the situation. The post I put on the news section of our website was a bit vague so I understand how assumptions were made. I also didn't mean to seem like I was defending my band. I don't care if people trash on us or anyone else.

That's what these message boards are for, for opinions. To talk about what we love and what we hate. My comment was " get your facts strait BEFORE talking shit." I said that because the topic that was being discussed wasn't a relative topic. It was people giving reasons for the tour ending that weren't true, and then basing opinions off false accusations. Either way, I've gotten a kick out of the monster that has been created. I hope everything is cleared up now.
