This is gonna be the longest run on ever. So just deal.
My parents divorced and my dad now lives in texas with his gf and I live w/ my mom. She rents out the basement because she's struggling with the house and such ever since my dad moved out. Now the problem is my dad wants me to stay for him as long as I want because I haven't seen him almost a year. He will provide me with a car and I don't have to worry about paying anything but just working and saving money for when I want to move to cali by the summer. The problem is my mom can't help me out like she used to anymore but I feel bad if I leave her alone. I feel selfish. I feel like I should stay and help her but im affriad if I stay and help her how will I ever help myself move the fuck out and save $$$. What should I do!?!?!

I think at 19 you're old enough to make your own decision, I don't know who you're closer to

where in TX and where in MD? I've lived in both, so I want to be able to help but there's a lot of good and bad places in both.

Montgomery county is where i lived too (Silver Spring), I would totally pick MD over Houston. Texas is like its own country, seriously, things are very different there.
You should visit and spend some time with your dad for sure, but moving there is a whole 'nother story.

If it's just for a little while, I'd say Texas.
Yes. And?
09/13/08, 02:45 PM
Maryland, hands down. Montgomery County ftw.

I live in silver spring too!
When I mean a "little while" I mean a couple of months till I have money to move to LA. But living in MD would be extreamly hard to save money. Esp if I need to help my mom. But I feel selfish for leaving. Ugh, I herd the same thing about texas.=/

I'm sure your mom will understand, I'd just talk to her about it.

I would say choose Maryland, but ultimately, you have to do what you think is best.
I don't live in Silver Spring, but I spend all my time there (school, hanging out with friends).

it seems like it would be very abrupt to pick up everything and leave it all behind. but if you are looking for a fresh start, go for it. i was going to try to give advice but this seems way harder...so on a side note:
mr stewart, your answer seems to be texas with a dollar sign in front of it...
woah. im from montgomery county too except im from gaithersburg.

Haahahahahaha. This made my night.
I'm not a big fan of Houston, but I don't think your choice should be based on the location. I don't think it should be based on money either, because whatever you do you'll end up alright probably. I don't really know what else to say; I know from experience "choosing" between parents can be very nerve-racking. Good luck.

Sometimes you need to be selfish if you want to plan your life accordingly and get to where you want to go. Things will obviously be much easier on you if you move with your dad, and you will be able to rekindle a relationship that you haven't had the opportunity to give much time to. I'm assuming your mother has no physical or mental disabilities, so she can take of her self. Every son needs to move away from at one point or another, and generally in your age range. She is expecting you to leave sometime soon, so she will understand. I'm telling you to go live with your father. Everything will be fine. Keep us updated on what happens!
very tough decision, if it were in your shoes id stay,my feet would kill me cause my shoe size is really huge, but yeah id definitely stay.

Maryland because Texas is trashy.

Oh and avoid West Virginia. It's trashy as well.

I think Maryland definitely wins over Texas. But I'm sure you'll learn that we can't make this decision for you. You should probably reevaluate your thinking if you feel saving up for a "couple months" is going to be enough to move to LA, though.
