Not exactly sure why there isn't an official thread for them yet, but I figured enough people on here like them, so there should be.

They are an extremely talented bunch of musicians who have yet to let me down. Sure some of their later releases haven't been up to par with their earlier albums, but they still have some great songs on them. If you can't get into this band, I suggest you see them live. Incredible live band, one of the best I've had the pleasure of seeing.

So discuss all things DMB, favorite albums, concert memories, etc.

Also, take your negativity somewhere else. I don't care if they're for "bros" or hippies. Shut the fuck up with that.

For any of you who purchased tickets to their summer tour through ticketmaster.com you can get a free iTunes download of Live Trax 2008 on Thursday. There's 8 tracks from some of their shows this summer. It should be pretty cool.

Also, the definition of a bro: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bro
Pretty much exactly who DMB fans are not.

they've started cleaning up direct soundboards of classic shows and selling them online, this is NOT the live trax series they've had going.

dmblive.com under the dmblive section. i've gotten all of them and they are all great except for the 1-9-04 dave solo show which is too short for the price and very bland. the 10-24-02 benaroya hall dave solo show is absolutely wonderful, he's sick and drugged up (legally for once) and just in a goofy and risk taking mood. most of them are out there on other sites if you don't have the means.

also release date for new album is 4-14-09 and there's no title or tracklisting yet, with the spring tour kickoff/album release show that night at madison square garden. they're supposedly going for broke and trying to regain their studio credibility and overall world dominance this year with world touring bookended by u.s. tours. i've been off the site for the past month so i don't know how much of this has been posted but i figured i'd update the thread.

live trax 14 has been found, it looks like it's going to be 6-28-08, leroi's last show :( i encourage all to pick this up, it's bittersweet but he was really finding his groove again and appearing more confident and comfortable than ever the last month of shows before his accident and subsequent death.

The next Dave Matthews Band studio album, scheduled for release on June 2, 2009 will be titled Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.

Supposedly Groogrux or maybe just Grux was a nickname for LeRoi Moore by his friends.

It's different, I actually kind of like it, and it makes the album a whole lot more meaningful.

Also, there's much better openers than The Hold Steady. I'm desperately searching for someone to go with me to the Hershey show.

It's a shame that they have such a "bro" image, because they are one of the most consistent and talented bands out there. I'm looking forward to Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King. RIP LeRoi.

O.A.R. isn't terrible, either. Not even close to the level of DMB, but they put on a good show.

Come on. Jason Mraz makes children's music for grown ups and O.A.R. haven't written a song that sounds different than any of their other songs since........ever. I don't have many great things to say about G. Love, either. The Hold Steady are far more original/interesting than all said bands.

Respect for Umphrey's and Willie.

While Mraz might not make any substantial advances in the music world anytime soon, he's still entertaining, and I have no doubt that he'd put on a great show.

and I'm not putting O.A.R. in any category better or worse than The Hold Steady, I'm just saying don't diss them, they still put out good music despite lack of originality.

I actually think O.A.R. have gotten progressively worse over the years. That one single they had that goes something like "didn't you love me, faster than the devil" was awful. It sounded like crappy adult contemporary music and the singer sounded like he was dying in the verses. They were easier to listen to when they were making pseudo hippie rock.

Just my opinions, not trying to personally attack you (unless you are a member of O.A.R. then I sincerely apologize)

haha that line's from Love & Memories, which I think is insanely catchy, but yeah that album was nowhere near as good as their earlier ones. They definitely peaked at In Between Now and Then.

Naa it's totally cool, I'm glad we can have conversations on here about bands that aren't Brand New, Jimmy Eat World, or Say Anything.

I got bored and was browsing their site just now...a few things of note:

Their media player is incredibly extensive. They have full audio from all of their albums studio and live, except for a few (True Reflections, The Gorge, Listener Supported, etc). I don't think I've ever seen another band have this much music accessible to their fans on their website.

If you refresh your browser, different backgrounds pop up.

Dave Matthews Band - Europe 09 will be released December 22.
http://www.amazon.com/Dave-Matthews-Band-Europe-2009/dp/B002WXAHN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1258402039&sr=8-2

it will be 3 CD's of the 7-5-09 show in italy, the longest concert they've ever played at over 3 hours. and a DVD of the entire Brixton acadamy show from 6-26-09 plus a few extra tunes from the night before at Brixton to round out the DVD with footage of every big whiskey song.
it's about time they gave us a live release from this year. of all the tours to not oversaturate the market with releases they pick one of their best in recent years supporting the bands "comeback" album. we had something like 3 2008 shows coming out at this time last year. but oh well, this should be an amazing set.

Everyday has aged exceptionally well. it got a lot of flack because of the abrupt shift to a radio ready sound. but, as fans get more distance and time away from that shock the albums true merits have come through. it's a really good pop-rock record, full of musically tight and well written songs, and something that dave should be damn proud of (and he clearly is) considering him and glen put it together in just two weeks.

dave's already said he wants to play the gorge this year, so i'm sure that's one. they never not play the east coast if they're playing shows. if they play atlantic city i doubt they play NYC if they're only doing 4 of these things.

pearl jam's also doing a 20th anniversary weekend bash this year and the rumors for that are Alpine, so i don't know if DMB would want to do it somewhere else to differentiate it.

Gorge, AC, somewhere in the south, somewhere around chicago is my guess.

He really likes The Roots, Robert Randolph, and Bela Fleck, so hopefully I can make it happen. Although I'd be spending over $1,000 on DMB this year (including AC), I just can't miss this.

Can't forget about Dispatch. Love em.

Looks like Steve Lillywhite is producing the next album. The same one that produced Under The Table and Dreaming, Crash, and Before These Crowded Streets. It's about damn time.

Cue "Dave Matthews sucks" comments....

I feel like most Dave Matthews haters have never fully given his/their music a chance. Also, the frat boy fanboy stereotype doesn't help matters much.

But dammit he makes INCREDIBLE songs. I love his darker songs the best. "27" and "Eh Hee" are 2 of my favorites.

If anything would convert someone into a fan, it would have to be their live shows. They put on some seriously epic performances.

Also, I recommend everyone checks out the Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City acoustic performance. It's mind-blowingly great.

This. Most are blind haters. I can't respect someone that doesn't have respect for the sheer talent and says the band "sucks." I don't listen to plenty of talented bands but still respect the musicianship.

Also, if #41 and Lie In Our Graves are not sufficient to hook someone on this band, I don't know what will. Possibly Halloween.

I'll be at Jones Beach, whether just the 6/13 show or both, I haven't decided. Typical DMB openers.

Oh man, I may have to save some money. At least I've got like 7 months... I'm sad that I'll never get to see them with LeRoi.

I wish DMB would play somewhere besides Alpine Valley around here.

In other news, Crash is just mindblowingly good.

Seeing them on June 8th and hopefully the 9th as well at SPAC, can't wait. I've only seen them once before and it was incredible.

So stoked to see them live, and this time in an outdoor venue, where he belongs.

I kind of got fucked over with tickets this year as my friend's a moron and I'm not paying 90 bucks for nosebleeds. I guess it's alright to take a year off, so I don't become a spoiled brat when it comes to setlists.
