To close out the year and set our focuses on 2005, I've recommended 5 upcoming releases I think you all NEED to buy next year:
Acceptance (www.acceptancerock.com)-Phantoms- Simply Beautiful. Jason Vena's vocals have improved so much since their EP and the new melodies are ten times more captivating and addicting. This isn't a disc of the latest fashions, trends and styles...it's a disc of LASTING songs, something this 'scene' needs desperately. I STRONGLY URGE YOU to buy this disc in April of 2005. It'll seriously make your year.
Days Away (www.daysawaymusic.com)-TBA- Emotional, unique, melodic, heartfelt, and incredible are the first words that come to my mind. Some may disagree, but this disc reminds me of a more modern rock U2, with the spacious guitar lines and angelic melodies it consists of. Another MUST BUY disc of 2005. Oh yeah, Tom RULES AT DRUMS!
Emanuel (www.emanuelisnice.com)-Soundtrack To A Headrush- Reminds me of a more structured Every Time I Die. Any album that opens up with the words "Listen Up Motherfucker" is an instance hit in my book. If your into screaming with a more rock type feel, this album is your album!
Finch (www.finchmusic.com)-TBA- Although I've only heard the more recent demos, I must say, this album REALLY has some great potential. I'm so happy Finch lost the "Screamo" outfit and took a more experimental approach, it was desperately needed. I'm also glad Finch shook themselves free of The Cage (AKA Trombino), because I can't imagine him doing a good job on a disc such as this one.
Anberlin (www.anberlin.com)-Never Take Friendship Personal- Ok. Wow. I started rocking this band's new stuff very recently and I honestly can't get enough of it. I wasn't into their last disc, but this new stufff is fucking amazing. "Paperthin Hymn" (which is on their pureVOLUME.com page) is quite possibly the greatest song I've heard this year. No joke. Look VERY forward to this!
-----Chitty-----Houston Calls (he was drunk during these)
Madison (www.madisonwebsite.com)- Fidelity records EP, these guys are sofuckingamazing tight andbad ass...and dennis and richie are hot as hell
Green day (www.greenday.com)- american idiot- the best green day cd of all time....the songs aresobrilliant it'sunreal
The Falcon- members of alk3,larry arms and rise against.....fucking awesome
The Junior Varsity (www.thejuniorvarsity.com)- 2 new songs off their new EP - fucking amazing guys, amazing structures....sooooogood
An Epic At Best (www.purevolume.com/anepicatbest)- my friend from macon, GA sort ofamodest mouse feel -very good indie style rock
Foster (www.purevolume.com/foster)- enough said.
-----Ryan-----Small Towns Burn A Little Slower
Ever We Fall (www.everwefall.com)- Awesome rock band we toured with this summer, just signed to hopeless records.
Rookie Of The Year (www.purevolume.com/rookieoftheyear)- Used to be just one guy, now a whole band. If you you like Dashboard or Spill canvas you will love this.
Danger:Radio (www.myspace.com/dangerradio)- Most interesting band i've heard in a long time.
Four Letter Lie (www.purevolume.com/fourletterlie)- Good post-hardcore band from Minnesota.
3 (www.purevolume.com/3)- Just listened to them today for the first time, sounds like rush!
----Seth-----The Audition
Jimmy Eat World (www.jimmyeatworld.com)- "Futures"- The best cd they have put out since clarity, and a good reason to get back into Jimmy Eat World
Foo Fighters (www.foofighters.com)- "The Colour And The Shape"- I havent listened to this cd in a long time but I have been listening to it lately, it is a perfect example of why bands like Brand New, Hot Rod Circuit, and others of the rock/emo genre have writen the songs they have.
I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Buisness (www.icanmakeamess.com)- "Self Titled" - This cd is a good cd to listen to because unlike most albums, this one flows from one song to the next gracefully, and before you know it, the cd ends.
Underoath (www.underoath777.com)- "They're Only Chasing Safety"- One of the best 'scremo' releases in a long time. bar none.
Motion City Soundtrack (www.motioncitysoundtrack.com)/Matchbook Romance (www.matchbookromance.com) split- nothing really special, just a cd with some good jams on it.
-----Ryan-----The Audition
Jay Z- The Black Album- I'd say one of the best rappers of all time. With a cd of infexious beats, and witty hooks, you can't deny, that Jay-Z will get you bobbing your head.
Spitalfield (www.spitalfield.net)- Remember Right Now- The cd has been in and out of my cd player since it came out in June 2003. Spitalfield has some of the catchiest hooks and upbeat rhythms. One of the best pop-rock cd's that have come out in a long time, and I can't wait for their next one
Bob Marley- Legend (greatest hits)- What more can I say? Bob Marley's music just helps me chill out and enjoy life. Go listen.
Jimmy Eat World (www.jimmyeatworld.com)- Futures- This cd is amazing. I think they out did themselves again after 'Bleed American', which was amazing. Jim Adkins' voice just makes me want to listen more and more.
The Academy Is... (www.theacademyis.com)- Almost Here- This cd has not yet come out. It's release date is February 8th 2005; you better make sure you're at the store buying that day. I've heard the whole cd and I'm in love with it. There's not much more I can say except AMAZING.
-----Christian-----BEDlight for blueEYES
Perfuma (www.purevolume.com/perfuma)- I can't stop listening to this EP. great melodies, great music, great lyrics. Check them out. This is a great beginning.
Scissor Sisters- Yeah I know. It's disco, but those vocals are like elton john meets the bee gees, and that cover of comfortably numb by pink floyd is infinitely catchy.
Walls of Jericho- The vocalist is a female with a scream that could... well... bring down the walls of jericho. I've been listening to this band a lot lately. Great music. Fierce.
Dino Velvet (www.purevolume.com/dinovelvet)- Watching these guys live is an experience you should all indulge in as soon as possible. I liken them to a barbarian circus dance party. This music moves you as much as it makes you wanna move.
A Black Veil Affair (http://www.purevolume.com/ablackveilaffair)- The new incarnation of this band is a brave new direction for ABVA. Check them out. Features Itchy, BEDlight's Drummer, on their PV track.
Emery (www.purevolume.com/emery)- So fucking good. There was a period of 2 months where I only rocked this album 24/7. We had the pleasure of playing with them at the downtown in Long Island. Just as amazing live as they are on that cd.
Joe Cocker- Joe Cocker's Greatest Hits- Because all of you should know what soul music is all about.
Acceptance (www.acceptancerock.com)-Phantoms- Simply Beautiful. Jason Vena's vocals have improved so much since their EP and the new melodies are ten times more captivating and addicting.
