Have any of you ladies (or gentlemen I suppose) ever heard of a hair removal process called sugaring? Have you ever tried it? What were your results?
That's not sugar down there, that's crabs.

oh, okay. the only thing I've waxed is my eyebrows. other than that, I just shave and do laser hair removal.
googling it, it just sounds a lot like waxing. I'd be curious to try it, but I'm already doing laser for legs and bikini and you can't do any removal from the root when you're doing that so I can't.

Have any of you ladies (or gentlemen I suppose) ever heard of a hair removal process called sugaring? Have you ever tried it? What were your results?
sugar waxing is basically the same without the risk of burning yourself. sugaring is sort of like spreading taffy on little areas of your legs and then ripping it off. It is way more tedious than waxing but I think a little less painful. Because there's no strip to press down you have to go over areas because you miss hairs a lot. Plus it takes a while to get the technique down.

actually I thought it hurt a little more too but it didn't hurt enough to bother me at all. and the thing for me is that I've been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was about twelve and am so used to it that unless I have a cold or allergies or something like that, I basically feel nothing from waxing.
I decided to try threading instead because it's cheaper and because the girl who used to do my eyebrows started pissing me off and I got sick of her. at the threading place, they were a lot more concerned that I like the shape of my eyebrows which was a nice change from the other place. oh plus at this place you don't even need to make appointments, so I just call the day of and it's awesome.
EDIT: and my friend told me she thinks threading hurts really bad so you're not the only one who thinks that.

hmmm, interesting! What exactly is threading?
this is from the place I started going to's website since they can definitely explain it better than I can... haha :]
What is threading?
Threading is an ancient art of facial hair removal. It has been practiced for centuries in India and other parts of Asia and the Middle East. The process involves a special piece of thread, made of 100% cotton, in which the ends are knotted together to make a circle. The thread is then twisted to form the shape of a bow tie and glided along your skin. As the unwanted hair comes into the twist of the thread, it is lifted straight from the roots.
How is it different than plucking or waxing?
Plucking - It is easy to get a little pluck-happy with tweezers. Once you start, it's hard to stop! Soon, you are left with just a skinny line of a brow or with uneven lines. It is also really difficult to grab fine hair with tweezers. And boy can this process take forever!
Waxing - Waxing will leave you with clean lines but one false drip or application of the wax and you could have an entire clump of wanted hairs accidentally ripped off. Most describe their skin as feeling raw right after. And those with extremely sensitive skin due to the use of glycolic products or Retin-A, could be left with missing skin. Ouch!
Threading - Leaves you with clean lines on the top and bottom of your brow and is quick and often less painful than plucking individual hair with tweezers or applying hot wax to delicate skin on your face. Threading can grab multiple hair at once or fine individual hair giving great control to the Threading Artist. Most use threading for their eyebrows and upper lips, but some also use threading for their entire face! It leaves your skin feeling smooth naturally without the application of any chemicals to your delicate face.
it's cheaper than waxing and I think it does a better job. and so far I feel like my eyebrows look better right now than they usually do a week after I've gotten them waxed. I didn't really think it hurt other than just not being used to it. but some people have told me they think it hurts really bad, and others have told me it hurts less than waxing... I guess it just depends on the person.

Oh wow, that's so awesome. I have never heard of that! Probably because I hardly have any hair on my body and my eyebrows are really light and hard to see. I've never even plucked them before but I have gotten them waxed a few times just for some shape but no one noticed a difference lol.
I got them tinted with dye once to make them stand out more, it was cool to finally see eyebrows on my face, but wore off in 2 weeks. So now I just use powder from Sephora to darken them.

hahah, aww! yeah but at the same time I'm jealous of you because I think eyebrows help make a persons face stand out and it can be cool and exotic. I guess we all want what we don't have. what I don't get is I have naturally brown hair but yet blonde hair on my legs, arms, and eyebrows. Weird..but yeah..I actually think there is a powder at Sephora that can do lighten them. The lady showed me a eyebrow darkening powder and it was a color i'd never expect to put on my eyebrows, almost looked green. but once I put it on I was like whoa, that's so cool! looked so natural! So just go in there and ask a salesperson and they will show you some powders that can lighten it probably a whole shade. Not 100% sure if sephora would, but I know some places would forsure. I'd look into it!

yeah, I mean, waxing I basically feel nothing and threading was just fine for me, so I'd definitely try it once at least. it's half the price of waxing.
I don't think most salons do it. the place I went to specialized in it and it was all Indian people since threading is something that comes from India. it was much more laid back than most salons I go to but still nice, and appointments weren't necessarily required. I'd just google threading in your area or look it up in the yellow pages.

I do it and it is permanent if you go enough times (about 7 or 8) to completely kill the hair growth in that area. and from the first time doing it, you notice the hair takes longer to grow back and is finer and less than it was before. if you can afford it, it's a pretty great option although it hurts like a bitch.
the only downside is that you can't get a tan while you're doing the treatment, and if you get a tan you have to wait for it to go away before you can go back. so I haven't gone in since before I went to hawaii in march since I was tan then and all summer.
