Man I remember when I was a kid it was always BSB and NSYNC battling for 1 and 2, and Korn was always number 3. Then, on Korn's 65th day, magic happened, and all of the trashy Korn kids across the country stopped smoking outside of their high school and linking chains to the belt loops in their ridiculously large pants and voted with all of their little black hearts.
Korn didn't make it to number 1, but they did get number 2, which was a small victory for those pasty idiots. I'll never forget that day.
They don't even show the whole music video. TRL sucks.

But really, I hated watching this, because they would show at most a minute of a music vid. Lame.

I remember the first time Good Charlotte got #1 and I flipped out. And when Simple Plan debuted a new video for Perfect and I double flipped out double.
Good times ignorant times.
I haven't even watched this lame ass countdown since Carson Daly was the host, but thank you, Lord. Although they're probably taking it off of the air so they can add another reality show to the lineup. I hate MTV so much.

i think Mtv has been talking about getting rid of the show for a while now.

yeah I remember that day too, it was a momentous occasion for nu-metal fans across the country. I remember it was my freshman year in high school and I had never seen so many proud undercut ponytail wearing people,the giant ball-bearing chain necklaces with a their tribal charms rattling in unison
I never saw it. I think they tried to introduce a UK version which flopped. So, no loss here really.

I was (fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective) of the age to be completely and utterly caught up in the TRL phenomenon. During it's peak years (1999-2001ish), I was 12-14 and most of my listening habits were predicated on the "Rock" that was played on the countdown. I recall desperately and fiercely watching each show and voting to see P.O.D. doing the impossible and reach the number one slot.
It was fun, and it became the zeitgeist for impressionable youth-culture. I've never watched it since I hit my mid-teens nor cared for any of the acts jocked on the show, but I'm still slightly saddened that a piece of my pre-teens is gone.

I know this is hardly an original thought, but with MTV's most prominent "music content" show being canceled, calling "MTV" "MTV" is as facetious as calling "Absolute Punk" "Absolute Punk."
Of course, MTV will never rename themselves, for the branding and pop-culture name recognition.

I was at a streetlight manifesto show once, and between sets when the Gwen Stefani CD the venue was playing ended, some people in the middle of the crowd did a complete rendition of Protect Ya Neck. Was hilarious.
