View Full Version : recommendations for a broken heart
i know, how emo can i get?
but i'm looking for bands/songs that have a lot of relationship/broken heart themes, heaps of lyrics i can relate to right now. doesn't matter what genre.
or even alternately, some band/songs that focus on how you are better than someone/moving on?
thanks.

check out william fitzsimmons. most of his songs are about divorce.
I'd say listen to the Disintegration album by The Cure, but it's usually a bad idea. It will probably make you feel worse.

Conor Oberst has no emotions and is really just a money-making machine for the coorperations of rich America that are losing money from the 'indie', white, college eduacated demographic.
I'm actually kinda feeling the same right now, and these are some songs that i have been listening to lately. They're not all necessarily about breakup, but they're mellow and good to mope around to.
sometime around midnight- airborne toxic event
everything i once had- the honorary title
nude- radiohead
heart songs- weezer
grapevine fires- death cab for cutie
mattresses underwater- colour revolt
the whaler- thrice
stay away- the honorary title
creep- radiohead

I'm emo-er! I have a "depression mix" on Project Playlist Anong others, I can currently think of...
"You Have Killed Me" by Morrisey is a good one..
"On Fire" by Switchfoot reminded me of a horrible time in my life
"My Immortial" by Evenesance is good too
"Special" by Garbage could go both ways (that's what she said...)
"Mr Brightside" by the Killers
"Apologize" by One Republic could do both too, it's kind of bittersweet
As for fuck you I'm moving on jams...
right this second I'm lstenitng to "Fuck Off & Die" by the Peppermint Creeps ,PERFECT for moving on! That was the first song I ever put on project playlist, mere days after my ex fianlly broke up with me. (This jerk was 26 and I had to fucking chase him down. He had neither the nads nor the respect to just bite the bullet & break up with me, I had to wait to FINALLY get in touch. Eww )
Anyway, more screw you I'm moving on songs:
~Train In Vain by the Clash
~Cake's cover of "I Will Survive"

I angst out to 30 seconds to mars as well, and Title and Registration by Death Cab is pretty damn depressing of the heartbreak variety
Over My Head by the Fray has the bittersweet kind of feel

Cryin' by Aerosmith is about heartbreak but in a much less darker sound

i recommend the entire deadbeat sweetheart album by the juliana theory! :) though they're not all breakup/move on songs...there are some great tracks on that record that i think you might relate to! also, the used (pain, blue and yellow, buried myself alive, bulimic), the starting line (surprise, surprise). just a few i can think of

Death Cab for Cutie is a good one for sure. Stick to Transatlanticism, Plans, and some of Narrow Stairs...Other than that, the Cure is fantastic for it.
