One of my favourite bands for a while now! Anybody else on AP a fan? They're a indie/Britpop (for lack of a better classification) in the vein of Doves, Turin Brakes and Athlete.
A class band with a consistently good discography and an excellent live set. Their latest album The Seldom Seen Kid beat out top acts such as Radiohead to win the Mercury Prize this year.
Any fans? Favourite songs?

Yeh, it took me so long to finally check them out but since i got 'the seldom seen kid' a few days ago it has just blown me away. Simply brilliant music, vocals and lyrics, I think these guys will finally get the recognition they deserve, atleast in the uk. I watched them live at the connect festival a few weeks ago and they were brilliant, so gutted i missed them at glastonbury. I can't believe no one else on here as replied.

Wahoo, another fan! That makes 2 elbow fans on AP! haha
They are sweet live. They came to Australia last year and did one of the best shows I've ever been to. It was Guy Garvey's (lead singer) birthday and the venue made him a chocolate cake. He handed it out to people in the crowd and everyone sung him happy birthday. It was a real relaxed and intimate gig! Not to mention the flawless playlist spanning their then 3 album discography and spot-on song execution.
I highly recommend these guys. I entreat you AP, check Elbow out! You will not be disappointed.

A friend of mine had them playing in her car one time. It was enjoyable.

I've never heard them but Inspector Rebus listens to them in the Ian Rankin novels, hahaha

I'm not a fan, but this (http://www.rathergood.com/independent_woman/) is one of theirs and it always makes me laugh.

Haha that is hilarious! What's that called again when a novel refers to a band/another book/whatever? An intertextual reference? Pretty sure that's what it is.

I don't know - but when something like this happens in a video game it's referred to as an Easter Egg.

A homage is when it's a tribute.

Love Elbow. The Seldom Seen Kid is a gorgeous album. It's disappointing that there are so little fans here.
