Country Mile
The silky promenade convenes
With awkward brush and wooden beams
I wring my pockets, feign a cough
Those brandy brown extensions
Little Hailey got this morning
Frame her face and show it off
Bukowski and a sandwich for the trip
Family portrait in a shopping bag
A suitcase that we share
I compensate with caring nods
Some tried advice and afterthoughts
The drain clogged days just drifted off
(…and on)
The beige plantations stretch for years
Edging over county lines
Hailey’s holding up okay
She loves the land, the cows and calves
Each early morning suits her fine
Smiling, silent as she plays
Our mothers’ eyes, my fathers’ stubborn brow
We wear them with every ache and every hour
The wind chime wanders back and forth
As air makes music from its bones
The frame of things we’ll come to know
Old dulcet joys and moonlit tones
Familiar pains that saw and slow
To baby steps on freezing floors
Such sudden loss, each sullen blow
Still little Hailey carries on

Wow, matt I love the mother/father line so much.
How are you sir?
I don't see anything really wrong with this, just another Rawlings' classic that meets up to your usual standards. I wish you would post more.

Recording, please.
Brilliant throughout. Fantastic images, and Little Hailey, just, wow. It's very good. I'll criticize soon, but I didn't see anything on two read throughs.

Fantastic.
She’s loves the land, the cows and calves
^Should that say, "She loves the land..."?

I'm alright. Still need to get an internet connection in my house, so I have to do all my e-business at university between Film workshops and music seminars.
Busy times, but exciting none the less. How about you. How was your trip (I seem to recall you said you were heading away for a while)?

"...another Rawlings classic"
Hahahahahaha.
Btw, I was discussing 'The Fox and Hound' a few nights back and how it is one of the most subversive cartoon films ever...along with Watership Down.
I've got another song that's nearly finished as well, which is a complete overhall of a song I wrote when I was 16. I essentially took the basic chords, threw out everything except one line and gave it a shot in the ass.

Don't know when I'd get a chance to record it. All of my housemates have moved back in. Might save it for when I finally hear back from a musician/engineer/producer I adore who may be able to record me in the future.
I played it at an open mic night not long ago...it went down really well.
If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to know what you meant by "Little Hailey, just, wow". I take it you dug her character?

Hahahahaha
Indeed. My bad. It has been edited to account for my shitty spelling and grammer

I worked at a summer camp, it was awesome til I got fired, lol. Summer was cool tho, I got a new job at a boookstore, and a radio show, now we need a theme song (hint hint).

I really need to watch it again. I don't remember to much about the details of the film. Although I haven't seen the Watership Down, is it good?
That's cool man. How do you think it's turned out so far lyrically and musically? Do you plan on releasing a EP anytime soon?

Oh, oh, new question, House & Home, new material, when?
Trite. I don't like this as much as I hoped I would, and I usually love your work.

I liked this equally as much as I hoped I would. I used to get annoyed when you used words such as 'promenade' that no one would ever use anywhere. But I think I've come to accept it as part of your style, and it doesn't bother me any more.
