Very cool lit journal found at: http://www.pearnoir.com/
Looking back on things I've posted in here, maybe I'm not such a terrible writer. I doubt any of you would call the little I've written "good,"" but I don't think anyone would call it terrible and that's all that matters to me, really.
Anyway, it has inspired me to try to write a story and actually finish it for once.

Finally blew the dust off of the fiction work I've been outlining since junior year in college (and have written all of 2000 words for) and reread it. Beginning of chapter two:
I've talked about this a good deal in here, I think, and I want to flesh it out to at least novella length. I have 24 pages of notes and rough outlines, so hopefully I can finally do it.

You should set yourself a daily task of writing for 20 minutes. That amount of time is nothing, but after a week you'll have quite a lot done; plus, once you start writing ideas start flowing.

When I was younger, I wrote a lot of short stories, which I liked. I never really thought I could write that well, until a little while ago.
I'm currently working on a sci-fi comedy based in a parallel universe that resembles modern day Earth (and exaggerates alot, but not too much) that involves short stories, diary entries from the characters and eventually (hopefully this summer) a mini-series that my friends and I are going to film. I'm so extremely excited about this project, I have a very strong feeling about it. So far, I've written the opening scene and two diary entries, but I have most of it planned out in my notebook. My friend wrote a very cool short story for it.
I've read a lot of other peoples work on here, and you guys are really great! Such an awesome thread.

I really enjoy writing. I started writing as a thing to do while I was in detention during my high school years. I have these great stories that keep coming to me, alot of my stories come through photography. I see a picture that catches my eye and I write a story for it.
I've had this zombie story that I'm really excited about, I had the idea while watching movies like Diary of the Dead and 28 Days Later. I really need to start working on it more. It is something original, I will not be ripping off George A. Romero or Kirkman. Since zombies have become somewhat mainstream in the last couple of years I think this story could really work and appeal to a large audience.

I just got Stephen King's On Writing from the library. Supposedly it is part autobiography, part writing guide. I've only read a couple pages so far, so I can't really tell you if it's worth your time, but I have heard good things.

Had to read this for my creative non-fiction class last semester. I'm not really a fan of books that teach how to write, but Lamott's a good writer and the advice she gives is helpful for people struggling to get started and maintain motivation throughout the writing process. Check it out.

Pretty interesting stuff:
They sell books, toys, music, games, clothes, appliances and soon Amazon.com will help you sell your script to Warner Brothers. Amazon just launched a new website called Amazon Studios in which users can sign up, upload their scripts, movies, storyboards and more, then edit and evaluate each others work and ultimately have that work shown to Warner Brothers, which has an exclusive first look deal with the site. It’s also giving away over a million dollars a year in monthly prizes to the best received work on the site. Read more about it after the break.

I've written three feature length scripts over the past five years, and have started extreme preliminary work on a fourth as of last night. It's a comedy in space (Think 'The Office' meets 'Star Trek'). I've just always been intrigued by the idea of a comedy in space, so I'm going ahead with it. If anybody is interested in helping at all (though I don't know how that would work), then please, let me know.

I'm not doing the NaNoWriMo thing this year because the story I want to tell I know is going to go far over the 50k word limit, but I've made it a personal goal to write at least that many words by the end of the month for my book. As of right now I've written about 32,500. It's been great fun.

i've grown to love the webseries format. i wrote a 10 episode series right before this one that i plan on filming in sept/oct, and i've started outlining a second run of episodes for juggalohio in case we do more. i've considered starting another idea in that format too. there's a lot of freedom, and you can do some cool things with it from a writing point. i've become a big fan.

Been trying to write some screenplays for a while but I can't seem to do it. I've got some great concepts (or at least hopefulyl they are, haha) and I know where the story should go about, but getting into the specifics is so hard for me. If someone wants to collaborate and work on one with me so I can have it ready to shoot this summer that'd be awesome.

I've just started working on a spec pilot idea I had about a post-apocalyptic sitcom. Yes, I already Googled and know it's been done before, but that was twenty years ago and barely lasted. I'm still in the early stages, brainstorming, coming up with characters, outlining, etc., but I wanted to get this question out there just to get some thoughts: should I include a teaser/cold open? I've been trying to think back to other sitcom pilots I've seen, trying to remember if they used them, or if it doesn't work because the audience doesn't know any of the characters yet. Any thoughts would be great.

im always a fan of using a cold open. i like the idea of having an idea what youre getting into before the credits even roll.
every pilot ive ever written has one.
doesnt have to be anything too big, just something. the cold open for episode one of juggalohio was actually the most elaborate one ive ever written. but we got a lot of information out there right away and i think it worked great.

I know the feeling, haha. I was really excited for the first four months leading up to the move and then within a week of my flight I was shitting myself. That's probably more due to the fact that I didn't have a place to live, but luckily I had a couch to sleep on for the first couple weeks until I could figure something out.
The only thing I had trouble getting used to was the time change, pretty much. I lived in South Florida before this so this three hour difference was pretty weird but I got over it quick. Nothing else too crazy, though. I only have a bike to get around on so learning the public transit system was a pain, too. But overall I like it a lot. Just like most everywhere else there's good and bad areas, good and bad people, etc. Do you know what part of LA you're going to be living in?
Edit: I also can't get a grip of when all the things I want to watch will air. Just missed half of TJ Miller's special because I figured it was coming on at 11.

I'm working on this post-apocalyptic idea. Super early stages. One of the things I'm going to try to do is have a before/after perspective running through the whole thing. But I can't figure out how to make some sort of plot out of the before parts...I know exactly what I want to happen after the event/whatever happens (I don't know yet). I feel like simple back story isn't really enough.
