Personally, I thought Temple of the Dog was way better than Nirvana and Alice In Chains.
Is this a joke? None of them even come close to Nirvana.

Nirvana sucks compared to half these bands. Personally I'm torn between STP and Pearl Jam.
I can't stand Pearl Jam
I do not know how anyone could say Nirvana sucks. That is just ignorant, honestly.
Pearl Jam is definitely good although I don't listen to that much "grunge".

Seriously? How is it ignorant?
Seriously? How is it ignorant?
Because, It's Nirvana. They changed the world. Pearl Jam never did anything even remotely as good. Pearl Jam could never even come close to having the same effect on the the world, let alone be as good. If they didn't have songs like Even Flow that completely suck, they might be better. But Nirvana would still be the best.

completely agree with kid b. nirvana did something that no band can ever imitate.
besides, have you ever really thought about what the term "pearl jam" means? think about it

Are we talking influence here? No. I believe the question was not "Who Was The Most Ifluencial Grunge Band of the 90's" but "Best Grunge Band of the 90's" Its obvious Nirvana had a huge influence on the direction of music, but step back for a second and you notice how most of their songs fit the same mold. Not to mention Kurt Cobain was a mediocore guitar player at best, and pales in comparison to almost every other guitar player in the bands mentioned.

he's right. i'm talking about who made the best music/most talented/etc. Nirvana is nowhere near the musical skill of Soundgarden or even Stone Temple Pilots

I would say Mudhoney, all their stuff has been really good for the most part.

No, I'm pretty sure that "Best" would be a question of skill.

not necesarily(spelled wrong), best is usually a question of opinion, because every single person here is going to have a different opinion of who the best is, and none of these opinions are going change anyone elses.

If that's the case then all music is subjective, and we have no reason to discuss music because so.

grunge is a bullshit genre.
but if i had to choose one, it would be nirvana or mudhoney.
STP weren't even a grunge band. they were and are just a shit band along with pearl jam and alice in chains. they weren't even from seattle.
there are just too many contradictions in grunge. totally a media tagged thing.
nirvana was a noisey punk/power pop band. straight up.
anyone ever see hype? best documentary.
best pacific northwest bands of the late 80's-early 90's: bikini kill, some velvet sidewalk, beat happening, the mono men, gas huffer, supersuckers, nirvana, bratmobile, heavens to betsy, seaweed, mudhoney, wipers, girl trouble, umen, screaming trees, fastbacks, the posies, young fresh fellows, mecca normal...

You're awesome!
pearl jam is the best band on here, but they weren't really that grunge. they just got grouped in that category of the time and location they came out and the flannel wearing.

Yes, thank you!
I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who can see through the "grunge" tag. None of those bands sound even remotely alike, most don't even cite the same influences. The only thing that bonded them together was that they were from the same place at the same time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a genre supposed to have a lot of common musical ground? Just because you all have loud guitars doesn't mean you should be considered part of the same genre, but evidently if you were from Seattle in the wake of Nevermind then you were grunge, regardless of what you sounded like. Ridiculous really.
I have Hype, but it's on VHS so I haven't watched it in a few years. But yes, great movie. And I'm forever grateful to it for introducing me to Some Velvet Sidewalk, who blow most of your "grunge" stuff out of the wate.
And it's damn good to see another Posies fan here. Seriously people, check them out. They were easily the best thing to come out of Seattle in the late 80's/early 90's, yet they never got the recognition they deserve.
Yes. And?

Anyone who said Nirvana is any idiot and don't know half of the truth behind 'grunge' All other grunge bands had some defining feature that placed them above Nirvana.
also Nirvana was effectively the MTV clone of grunge, and thus, fails.

people praising nirvana is another example of how if someone kills themselves...they become more popular and all of a sudden they are "influential". someone has to agree with me that the nirvana albums became trendier and "softer" as the years went on. there were just another typical band from Seattle.

They were influential before Cobain died. And their albums hardly got softer.
