too many bands imo, have came from just being more of a "scene" band and broken into the more mainstream scene.

however, if you put it in terms of cds, i think greenday was the most "groundbreaking" or best accomplishment. They put out a rock/"punk"-opera, something that hasn't been done in a LONG time, and not only that but it was a very good cd (as in terms of songwriting/flowing/etc)... fuck you if you disagree with me, but i've been drinking

in my mind... straylight run, mcr, & fob... all of them have been going non-stop and show no sign of slowing down

Without a doubt My Chemical Romance. After they preform on TRL and release Helana, they're going to be HUGE.

Are you serious? Straylight Run got more publicity in 2003. I loved them when I first heard them and it sort of died out by the time the album came out. It's not that I dislike the band by any means but...

TBS have had huge success in 2004

my chemical romance had the greatest succcess. i think they "blew up" this year. and those guys deserve it.

MCR...but they suck, so it dont matter. Maybe next year an actual good band will "blow up"

Modest Mouse and the postal service had the best success.

Wow, why I am I not surprised that a terrible, terrible band is releasing a cd that just so happens to share its name with a terrific Misfits song? Next thing you know, The Dome of the Rock will be razed to the ground and The Jewish Temple raised in its place.

And I'll agree with those of you who say that Modest Mouse had the biggest year, or maybe Franz Ferdinand (to throw another name out there).

Why? Modest Mouse were everywhere, even if you don't like em, you can't deny that. If we're talking 'scene' wise, I'll go with MCR too.
Straylight Run put me to sleep. YAWN

Well if we are talking "scene" then definetly The Arcade Fire. And rightfully so, they put out an amazing album.

fall out boy is taking over the world whether you want them to or not, and they haven't even put out a major label record yet. i'd say if you're measuring up accomplishments, they should get the top recognition over mcr. i love both bands, but mcr's major label release was what started turning mtv and mainstream heads = publicity push from a label with money. fall out boy, on the other hand, has garnered most of their publicity and fanbase growth through word of mouth from kid to kid. and if we're using mtv to judge accomplishment, well then there you go. fall out boy won an mtvU woodie. case closed.

MCR.

They'll be on letterman on the 13 of Jan I believe. I could be wrong on the date.
