OK… here’s your chance. I know a lot of you would like to see us do some different things around here; new features, more on certain genres, articles, multimedia, information, ect. We’re getting organized for the new year so now’s the time to present those ideas, tell us what you think/need/want and/or concerns you have. Please go crazy talking about stuff in here and/or e-mail me. Kelsey.brusseau@absolutepunk.net .

I can't think of anything off of the top of my head. Everything is pretty good. I'll keep thinking though.

color themes would be cool with either a red/orange/yellow or a blue/green/yellow

I'm not sure if you guys have this, but maybe a links section. You can put a million band's websites in it for easy access.

Maybe a section where members can post demos for their own bands, and people can rate them?

thats kind of like self promotion.

More Videos, stuff like Punk Rock Vids does. Or just Normal music videos that indie artists put out but you never see because none of the networks will play them. The Video Interview section is awesome but we've only had 3 videos in about 3-4 months so if that could be updated regularly it would be awesome. AND BRING BACK KING OF THE HILL, that was always a cool feature.

Kif
12/28/04, 04:33 PM
The forums have designated spots for designated things.

There's a designated self promotion forum where you..GET THIS...PROMOTE YOUR BAND!!

ISN'T THAT THE BOMB DIGGITY?
Subtle

they can post all that stuff in self promotion. how much more official can an OFFICIAL self promotion forum be.

Have you seen the amount of views some of those threads have got? Sorry but it doesn't seem like that forum is working that well

I meant so you could submit a song and some info to AP, maybe a photo as well. Then like on one day per week they could make a post in the news with their favourite songs they recieve, and let people talk about them that way?

i guess that would be cool. but very time consuming. a whole shit load of bands would probably do it. and that's kind of what we have purevolume for.

And no, It wouldn't be too hard. That's why you hire more people.
/pisses all over your previous post

TAKE THAT, SUCKA!

The LAST thing AP needs is to hire MORE people. There are already way way too many people working for the site. I miss the days when I actually knew something about the staff, and recognized them, and knew their tastes when they posted. I could always tell bands I'd be interested in simply by who was talking about it.

Anyway, I'd also like to see more coverage of pitchfork type material. There's very little of that type of stuff covered on here, except for (I believe) Ryan Mills? I dunno - whoever the kid was who had Arcade Fire as his #1 album of the year. (AKA pretty much the only one who didn't pick JEW) lol.

And I couldn't give a shit less about videos. It's not worth the bandwidth at ALL. Don't waste the time or effort on something like videos. They are an afterthought to the music and don't necessarily warrant the effort. I understand that yes, they are an additional type of expression for artists and their music, but still - the music is what's important. Most the time, videos are just ....there.

we dont host any videos that are put on ap so it doesnt use our bandwidth. we would never be able to handle it and the people that host it have about 3 back ups just for them.

I was actually going to say something kind of like that, but a little less crude.

It seems like the majority of the staff here likes the EXACT same stuff. I mean for the best of list, between everyone that contributed, I bet that there are less than 100 different bands listed. AP should find staff people that have different tastes.

Greg
12/28/04, 06:53 PM
well i have the same taste as alot of the staff. so im cool with all their picks usually.

thats what we're trying to do with the new reviewer we are getting. and i dont love say anything like most the staff... i also dont think they are bad, just not my fav.

I think if you saw the number of people downloading the videos and the measure of bandwidth you'd see most people disagree with your opinions about the feature video concept.

I'm not saying that there aren't some people who are interested in it. I'm just saying that I'M not interested in it, and that I know how much bandwidth it takes and that in a site about MUSIC, there shouldn't be a bunch of money spent on videos.

That was just a side comment though. Enough about videos. lol.

My biggest hope for the new year is that music coverage broadens in the whole indie pitchfork elitist type direction occassionally. In the news posts more than in reviews. I don't ever read the reviews here really to be honest. I just think it'd be neat to see more news from that whole genre.

I'm pretty sure news just gets posted as it comes. Personally I think a lot of the news about bands that have come up on purevolume and then after a week are totally forget is useless. I would focus more on bands that are with labels and all that jazz. I'm sure there are plenty of bands that have gotten one or two posts made about them and then nothing ever again.

More downloads. Maybe its me but I dont notice that they are changed much. Bands love this site so I bet they would be willing to give up rare/acoustic songs to be put on here. That would be cool.
