I don't understand. Is this Conor Obersts side project? I can't find anything on his site or anything about it, and I'm leaning towards the fact that it has nothing to do with Bright Eyes, but I mean, it sounds JUST like him.

You're right, he is amazing.
And to everyone saying An Angle is a Bright Eyes ripoff, unless you're named The Beatles you're a ripoff of someone else.

cause no one is allowed to listen to a cd before they buy it. especially a cd thats been getting trashed everywhere. i never knew previewing a cd was so god damn immoral. calm down nazi.
and not to mention, im not a fucking kagillionaire, i dont have money to drop 12 bucks on a cd that could possibly suck. i buy the cds that i think are worth buying according to my opinion. thanks.

I was actually making fun of all the pathetic remarks people make about him being a ripoff of Bright Eyes.
Ever heard of David Dondero? He has similar voice as Conor, and plays similar music... but isn't a rip off.
Get over people. Lots of people have falsettos...

Hahaha.
And hey, believe it or not, but the Beatles were influenced by other bands and took some of their sounds.

Yup, re-release.
And it's actually not bad. The man's an interesting songwriter.

the format is not on this cd, it was a mistake.
it sort of reminds me of a dumbed down version of Bright Eyes.. the songwriting is definitely not as good as Conor's.. but then again I hold his writing in incredibly high esteem. An Angle is like Bright Eyes minus a thesaurus.

So when I heard An Angle, I immediatley thought "wow, Bright Eyes ripoff."
Then I came to my senses.
There are so many other bands that sound EXACTLY like someone else. If you don't agree, then you just haven't listened to enough music. I don't know an angle much (ironically he hates bright eyes) but I heard it's amazing. The only reason people are so mad is because Bright Eyes is so well known and so is drive thru records.
So yeah, it sounds a lot a like, but that's nothing new. Honestly stop complaining and appreciate music for what it is.
In the "War Is Over" cover he didn't sound so much like Conor. I wonder if maybe in the new release he will have a less "Conor-ish" voice as well.

Any predictions on when Drive Thru will actually release the record? I say November '05.

yeah, i think the main difference is bright eyes is so original to us, it stands out when some one else sounds very similar to an 'original' band.
i'm going to have to give this another chance someday

I heard this was a direct rip-off of Bright Eyes. I mean, you can steal a band's sound then you can just plain copy them, and that's what I've heard this is. Boo to that, and boo to this record.

Bright Eyes is boring. Conor's voice sucks. His lyrics are good but I don't really care because they put me too sleep.
That has nothing to do with what I was going to say.
I was originally going to say stop all the an angle bashing.

the only reason i really have a problem with an angle is because he says he hates bright eyes...at least admit that you are influenced by them...thats what makes me shy away from them.

How about you give the record and An Angle a chance before "booing" it, instead of making assumptions based on opinions someone else has fed you.

i read an interview with the dude from an angle not too long ago and i don't recall him ever saying he hated bright eyes. he said he wasn't really a fan as in he never really listened to it. also, the grain of salt record was recorded over two years ago and apparently the new album is supposed to be much different. i'm actually quite interested to hear it, it's supposed to be just a bunch of musician friends who got together in the studio and had fun and made some music.

David Dondero started out in Sunbrain though, which was a huge inspiration for Conor. I believe he went solo about the same time Conor started Bright Eyes so neither of them is a ripoff of another. They sound somewhat alike but you can tell the difference in the artists. I have four Dondero records and pretty much everything Conor ever released, from solo to his many bands, and I never was confused about who I was listening to. You should never be confused about who you're listening to, and if I didn't know I was listening to An Angle, I would think it was Bright Eyes.
And the guy in An Angle [Kris] is pathetic and egotistical. I've heard stuff from someone who knew him before getting signed to drive-thru and she said he's a completely different person (egotistical - so much so that band members left). He started out doing his own thing, he had a similiar voice to Conor and played acoustic guitar, but that was it. Then Kris found out about Bright Eyes and started to play on their similarities to gain fans. You can't say the artwork, the song titles, even the theme of the album, is coincedence. People can argue me all they want, this came straight from close friends of members of An Angle. Oh, and he doesn't like Bright Eyes too much. And Bright Eyes isn't too fond of Kris either. Apparently Conor wanted to try and sue but never actually went into it.
I'll still probably give An Angle another shot, but I'd never spend money on a record of theirs. All bands sound somewhat like bands before them, they're taking in things that inspired them, but it's another to completely and knowingly ripoff another band.

Yeah, beyond the music, the atwork looks so much like Fevers and Mirrors from what I've seen. I guess it's so hard to judge stuff because there are so many different sides and sources anyone can take.

what the fuck could conor sue for...your dumb and making up shit, just because they have the same style doesnt give one to sue the other, and most of your points arent very valid.

It's "you're" dumb, moron.
I said Conor wanted to sue, not that he did or even tried. He knew that he most likely wouldn't be able to sue someone just for sounding/looking like him. That came from someone who knows Conor personally. I obviously can't say it's for sure true but I myself believe the person who said it. I don't waste my time trying to spread rumors about bands/people nor do I waste my time coming up with false information, it's just what i've heard from friends of both sides.
And I really could care less if you think my points aren't valid. They're true and I don't think it's right to copy a band the way that An Angle did to try and gain some fans.
