that guy from jet lag gemini does a very fine job of running the guitar, though it's not entirely innovative

Ian D'Sa.
I have stated before that I really enjoy his technique and although each song is really formulaic, he has managed to create a sound all his own which is refreshing when guitarists are dime a dozen these days.
Also, Derek Trucks. Whattasound that guy has! Talent's in his genes!
GuitarR0cker1
09/19/08, 08:08 PM
Pete Wentz! OMG hes so innovative with his amazing bass playings with a pick.
Really though Xavier Rudd all the way. Seriously making aborigine folk music is super creative and innovative. Naming my favorite guitarists like Chris Conley, Max Bemis, Jesse Lacey etc just doesn't work for this.
El_Jeffe
09/19/08, 08:11 PM
first to come to mind:
derek trucks
xavier rudd
robert randolph
& although they started quite a while ago, tinariwen really came to their premise this decade. if they count, they easily win. the boys in that band have genuinely created a whole new sound on the guitar. critically appraised among various music circles worldwide
edit: guitarrocker, you beauty, rudd is a good pick. nice to see his tunes have taken to ya mate^

Max Bemis is a guitarist?
GuitarR0cker1

Max Bemis is a guitarist?
He does some guitar work, like his personal song offer. I mean sure it is stretching it to call him a guitarist but I consider him one.

I'll 3rd Derek Trucks. Makin' it easy.

Yep. Though I have to say that Billie Joe isn't a bad rhythm player. He's nothing innovative at all, but he's not horrible.

i don't like his music at all but John Mayer is a good guitarist. Tom Morello is insane as well.

John Mayer is better than a good guitarist. I wasn't into him very much until I saw some footage from Clapton's Crossroads festival - him playing "Gravity" definatly won me over.

Because fingertapping random shit while dry humping the delay pedal does not make you a good or innovative guitarist.
Because he sucks, mainly.

when hot cross had two guitarist they were pretty sick at dueling.
also, i agree with everyone who said omar rodriguez-lopez.
i would also like to add john frusciante.
as for tom erak... i used to think he was good, until i noticed that he uses the same couple of chords, and then varies his solos around the chords. so in essence he's really only getting creative with the solos. i still think he's pretty good for being able to sing and solo at the same time. but mos def not the most innovative or creative. And then i heard hot cross and thought, tom erak blows!!!

Yeahh, It's not at random.
I'm not saying I think he's the greatest guitarist to ever live, or am I one of those kids who hears FCPREMIX and thinks its the most intense song ever. But that doesn't mean he isnt a good guitarist. The fact that he can sing and do all that I think is pretty impressive, and if anyone says he "sucks" i'd like to see you try it.
Some of the best guitarists are probably haven't been discovered yet, plus its all opinion anyways.

its a trick question. all of the real good guitarists mentioned came out of the 90s. nobody in the 2000s is doing anything really innovative or different. there's plenty of great song writers, but not a lot of people pushing the boundries of their instrument. here are 6 year olds that can play bach on the guitar. being technically proficient doesnt mean you are creative or innovative.

Psh, I can play (or used to be able to, I'd be rusty on it now) I Just Got This Symphony Goin', but I don't have a shitty enough voice to sing while I play it.
