i'm staying at home for uni.
advantages: CHEAPER, i save so much money on food/rent/etc. because I live at home.
disadvantages: i live really far from campus, but it's not a huge deal.
but I plan on moving out by my third year so yeah. and plus, i have a really good relationship with my parents. they aren't too protective or overbearing and they don't stop me from having my own life and the like.

I'm at home now but I can't wait till fall when I move out and go to a real college instead of comm. college. I'm saving a lot of money but I don't know anyone here, Living in the dorms with Hundreds of people my age does not sound like a bad idea.

my best friend got into hofstra off of early action. he has to wait from marist but he maybe going there. i think if you dont board, you miss the college experience and like the other guy said, its like going to high school. i wish i was a boarder at my highschool but i opted not to so that i would be able to drive. but i forgot about gas money. i dont know your family situation and i dont know if enjoy living with your parents, but i think getting away from them for a few years usually helps in the long run. personally i am getting the hell away from connecticut. Besides marist which is in new york and seton hall in jersey, i have applied to schools in florida, north carolina and new orleans. i dont like the snow much

living on campus lets you live the college life. you meet tons of pople and get to experience dorm life and all the shit that goes along with that. i would say live on campus. i would never want to live off campus.

Yeah I agree. My school dies on weekends but still, I prefer it to home. I mean my home is awesome and I'm glad to drop in whenever and its fun, but living at college is great because you can do just about whatever you want. You have your own schedule, no real restrictions, you're your own boss, its great. Definitely live on campus and then if you don't like it, go back home.

i have a friend that goes to hofstra.
again....
i'm a senior in high school and i'm really looking forward to college. most likely because i'm going to attend THE Ohio State University:D G O B U C K S!!!!
yeah I would definatly try to live on campus.....im a junior in college, and for one semester i lived with my parents. and it drove me nuts. it does REALLY save money, but it is also a lot of fun. you just have to make sure you balance your fun and school. have fun, thats for sure...but you are there for school...so make sure that comes first. i know tons of people that failed out/got kicked out after their freshman year cuse they thought college meant endless parties and never going to class. well, most of the time, it doesnt work that way.

i had no choice but to move because my school is 2 hours away from where my parents live.. but if i had a choice, i wouldn't live with them anyway. i like having my own place and not having to tell someone exactly where i'm going to go or what i'm doing and when i'll be back. it's definitely a tradeoff between saving money and having more independence

Well, I moved 2,400 miles away from home...soooo...
Disadvantages: Far away from family, have to pay rent, can't have my dad work on my car (yea, that's a specific disadvantage to me...haha), um...I don't know. The biggest disadvantage to me is that I only get to see my family about 1-2 times a year. I can't just hop in a car and drive there, I have to spend $300 for a plane ticket, so I don't get to visit often.
Advantages: Independence, I feel more like an adult I guess because I live away from them. I dunno exactly how to describe it. I don't have to tell them where I'm going, when I'm coming back. I get to do things on my own terms (no weekly chores...lol). It's nice because you get to learn how to live independently by having to pay your own rent and blah, blah, blah. I feel like I've created my own life over here in Indiana since I started from nothing. I had no friends when I came here and I kind of had to open up and change things about myself, so it's been a really good learning experience for me. It's also fun just being somewhere completely new.
I dunno, if you want to be independent, but don't want to be so far away from your family, go somewhere within driving distance. I'm going where I am because I like the school, they have a good engineering program, their small, plus soccer was a big factor. They're also giving me a fair amount of money, so I can't really pass that up.

I stayed home for all 5 years of undergrad, and will be staying home for 3 years of grad as well. As much as I often wish I had went away for college and did the dorm thing more often (I did study abroad every summer so I dormed from june to august in europe from 2000-2003, something you should try because it ruled), I found that it saved me a lot of time, money and aggravation. I lived maybe an hour from school on the train (I went to Hunter on 68th and Lex in Manhattan), but I found my freedom actually increased because of its close proximity. I had more time to spend wandering NY, there were plenty of places to go and do, and in the end I didn't need to worry about room mates, parties interrupting major paper writing sessions and getting sick, and I always had my home to retreat to if I needed it. Plus I had space, security for my stuff, and most importantly, cash. Independence is a good thing, but some people take it too far, especially at college, and rather than being truly responsible and independent, they use the time to party and cut up, which isn't a benefit for anyone.
ultimately, make your own decision. I'll be going away for my eventual PhD program (Univ of Toronto), but for now it was best for me to stay home.

i go to james madison university in virginia and live in nj durin non college time. i didnt wanna live at home if i went to school close to home but i feel if you dont live at school you miss having all the good times...meeting people and so forth. plus with the amt of money gas is, it sucks to drive to and from school if its a good distance away. live on campus its so much better and more experience for living on your own.
