My friend Taylor showed me a band today named Rated Hero (www.purevolume.com/ratedhero). They're pretty good and you should check them out. I think everyone should post their recommendations in the replies and make this thread a festival of good music.

Sweet! I am so excited. I have not heard one song of theirs that i don't like, this will definately be my most anticipated album of next (or this) year.

auditory aphasia (http://www.purevolume.com/auditoryaphasia)- Don't really have a precedent to compare them too. Maybe a hardcore version of the Mars Volta. Definitely check them out!

exhaustra (http://www.purevolume.com/exhaustra)- A dual guitar attack drives piercing vocals of this band. Filled with starts and stops and lots of changes in tempo.

the rise (http://www.purevolume.com/therise)- The Reclamation Process is a natural progression for this band. They've added in some singing parts but can still bring the intensity and the techno beats. Go here to download the full album www.killthemessenger.net (http://www.killthemessenger.net)

the rum diary (http://www.therumdiary.net)- The perfect album to fall asleep to at night. Small town soothing vocals and dream-inducing instrumentals.

metric- (http://www.ilovemetric.com) Emily Haines' vocals are amazing on this album and i usually don't enjoy female vocalists. The album switches back and forth from indie/pop to straight up rock. The indie and electro kids will love this because of it's poppy, dance-party feel on tracks like "Succexy" and "Combat Baby". If you're more partial to love songs and slow music with lyrics that are absolutely to die for in their simplicity and surprising elegance, then "Calculation" and "The List" are absolutely perfect for you.

PS. Please someone back me up about the utter "awesome-ness" that is TREOS and how we will all be blown away by their Triple Crown debut LP.

I read it in their message board, and it also says they will begin recording early on this year.

they're supposedly demoing some stuff right now and looking at a spring time recording session. at least that's what I've heard.

summercollides - great band with a great live show, finished there new demo, hopefully online soon, but for now you can check out www.purevolume.com/summercollides if you want.
tonight we ride - another great band with a great musician, written and recorded by pretty much one guy, amazing lyrics, little sketchy quality, still great, for sure worth the listen www.purevolume.com/tonightweride

Park is by far the most amazing band I have ever heard......missed them last time they rolled around the Toronto area which licks nuts, hopefully they stop on by sometime in the near future
...........and "It wont snow..." in my opinion is the better of the two, but No Signal is still amazing

i haven't heard the new album yet, but my cousin and friends have. and they say it is amazing. seventy minutes. transitions. the whole nine yards.

and i recommend the cadence. they just demoed with matt squire (guy who produced the treos cd) over vacation. so hopefully they'll have new stuff soon. www.purevolume.com/thecadence (it's all over a year old, though)

I got to hear a new song acoustic yesterday, and it is amazing. It is 10 times better than anything they've done before(and all their stuff I love). They've only had this line-up together(with James and Ashley) since April, and I think it's the best thing to come out of the Long Island area since Brand New.

Ozma (http://www.purevolume.com/ozma) - Pop rock with a lot of synthesizer, often compared to weezer although I disagree. One of my favorite bands even though they are now defunct.

Pixies (http://www.pixiesmusic.com) - One of the most influential bands of the 80s and early 90s. Currently just finished up their first tour in 12 years, possibly recording new material and touring in the second half of this year. If you aren't listening to them then you are sincerely missing out.

American Football (http://www.epitonic.com/artists/americanfootball.html) - This site raves about Owen all the time, and that is rightly so. American Football was Mike Kinsella's band before that excellent solo project. Very similar sounding stuff, but full band and electric guitar.

Harris (http://www.purevolume.com/harris) - This is a very good local band. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Neil Young (http://www.neilyoung.com/) - I recently received Harvest for Christmas and it is better than anything you are listening to right now. He may be old but he rules.

Wilco (http://wilcoworld.net/) - Quite possibly the best band making music right now. "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" is a brilliant album, and 2004's followup "A Ghost Is Born" again showcases the incredible songwriting of Jeff Tweedy. Listen to the songs "Jesus, Etc" and "Wishful Thinking", they are my personal favorites.

Rilo Kiley (http://www.rilokiley.com) - This is the band that will make you appreciate female vocalists. "The Execution Of All Things" is a vital addition to your collection.

Bloc Party (http://www.blocparty.com) - Don't let the terrible name fool you, this is a great band. Download the song "So Here We Are", it is impossible not to like it.

Calexico - Indi / alt-cuntry / salsa band from Tucson AZ. Members of Giantsand. Some times they tour with a full mariachie band.

The Stiletto Formal - If you dont know who they are now you will by this time next year. They are a phoenix sextet mixing At The Drive-In with the Faint.

Rocky Votolato - Singer song writer from Seatle. Honest and heartfelt songs. Amazing dude.

Courtesy Blush (http://www.purevolume.com/courtesyblush) - Resembles a more hardcore/technical Boys Night Out. It's really good. check it out.

The Belmonte Academy (http://www.purevolume.com/thebelmonteacademy) - Vocals like Fear Before The March Of Flames with keyboards like Motion City Soundtrack.

New Years Resolution (http://www.purevolume.com/newyearsresolution) - Scotland hardcore/progressive. Taking Back Sunday type vocals/guitars mixed with Funeral For A Friend.

The Psychotic Pandas (http://www.purevolume.com/tpp) - Hardcore/progressive out of England. Do yourselves a favour and check them out.

The Tokyo Smash (http://www.purevolume.com/thetokyosmash) - Everyone should check out this band, if you don't, your missing out. its way too hard to explain how great this band is.

The Smear Campaign (http://www.purevolume.com/thesmearcampaign) - I cant get enough of this Toronto based band, the vocalists voice mixed with the synth is so pretty.

Emery (http://www.purevolume.com/emery) - Everyone should know about this band by now, and if you dont have The Weaks End in your cd player, whats wrong with you? (does anyone know if they're recording new stuff or what?)

We're also working on home recording (with some nice acoustic Saosin covers) and should have some more acoustic originals up soon, from the basement of our lead singer... just check it out... its a start.

I had a dream about Zolof, it was so weird. I was a keyboardist and I went on tour with Reggie and the Full Effect headlining, Zolof, Metallica and the Offspring, and we played in little middle school auditoriums and I had to convince Dexter from Offspring to stay on the tour. Plus I rotated bands playing keyboards, Enter Sandman with keyboards, YES!
