View Full Version : Dinosaur Jr. Official Thread
Obligatory introduction stating how the hell does this band not have an official thread with a bunch of posts in it already.
How the hell doesn't this band have an official thread with a bunch of posts in it already? You're Living All Over Me and Bug are indie rawk classics. Charlie Kilo? AP Punk? Dr.Acula? Come On.

bit of a fan, only got where you been & the classic you're living all over me as yet
such a raw sound, such raw emotion, but enough hooks to keep almost anyone coming back for more. the guitar work is insanely good at times too

El Jeffe basically summed up my feelings.
I used to listen to Dinosaur, Jr. all the time in high school when my friend first introduced me to them. You're Living All Over Me is fantastic, and this thread reminded me that I really need to pick up Bug.

dinosaur jr. is the tits
I saw them last night, snuck into the show, how rawk n roll is that? They're playing with Built to Spill (Also awesome, they played perfect from now on in it's entirety) in every other venue in the country for this tour except at ours cause it's too small, why shoud I have to pay for two shows? Anyway, they play significantly louder than other bands. It's awesome.

Totally rawk n roll. That rules.
I really, really love me some Dinosaur Jr. You're Living All Over Me should be a part of every music fan's collection.

I haven't heard You're Living All Over ME - thinking I should check it out now with the fact everyone in here so far has said they love that one
I've got Where Have You Been & Beyond & love both of them
Beyond was one of my favourite albums last year - They were also amazing when I saw them at reading festival last year :headbang:

Bump.
I recently got into You're Living All Over Me, and I'm pretty much with the majority of their fans now that say that's their best album. I've been meaning to check it out since last November, glad that I did but I don't know what the fuck took me so long haha.
Anyway, I've also heard Beyond, Without A Sound and Where You Been? and out of those three my favorite is probably Beyond. One of my favorite albums of 2007 and the first Dino Jr. album I properly listened to haha. Without A Sound is really good too. "Feel The Pain" is a classic.

European Farm CD Audio Problem
Dear Dinosaur Jr. Fans,
Please note that on the European CD version of the Farm album there is an audio problem. This occurred while duplicating the original master in a duplication studio. The problem occurred when the duplicate was produced, as the software program used for this duplication ‘doubled’ the sound layers. This resulted in a 3dB increase in the overall sound volume.
If you have bought a CD of Dinosaur Jr.’s Farm album in a European shop with the bar code number 5414939004926, and you would like to exchange it with a good version, please go the site mentioned below. There you will find more information on how you can see if you have a copy that has this sound problem and how you can get a new copy of the album. Both PIAS and the band would like to offer the fans something extra for this inconvenience, so in addition to a replacement CD, PIAS will email you a link to download an "Over It" Ringtone once they have
received your bad copy. A valid email address is required to receive the ringtone. PIAS is now going to cover postage both ways to make this exchange easier and less of an inconvenience for our fans. Once you've sent in your bad CD PIAS will include the same amount of stamps, used on your package to get the bad CD to PIAS, in with your replacement copy of Farm. Again, we apologize for this issue and inconvenience. Please go to: http://media.pias.com/dinosaurjrfarmcd for more info.

Living is, in fact, the album that received the brunt of the praise and discussion, and it's my second favorite, but the s/t is an identity crisis of which I'm very fond of. It's more metal-inspired, while still trying to meld itself to the '80s alt scene and fuzzy distortion that would become a hallmark of their subsequent albums. I like hearing them grasp at a few different sounds.
There's no bad albums in their catalog, but I seem to gravitate toward the first release.

Question - Does anyone know if the J Mascis / Uma Thurman rumors are true?
I'm getting this from the last paragraph of this review: http://www.pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/5130-free-so-free/ , which reads:
While writing Free So Free, Mascis learned of Uma's impending return to glitz and glamour via Tarantino's Kill Bill. The raging "Say The Word" and two tender, defeated ballads-- "If That's How It's Gotta Be" and "Someone Said"-- are clearly the only songs put together after he heard the news. The former is a bitter, sarcastic indictment of her decision to pursue celebrity; the latter pair hark back to the twisted misery of Dinosaur Jr.'s earliest material, when J still held on to hope that Uma would come walking back through the door. When his muse is ascendent, J is at his best, and as an e-mail excerpt that made the rounds on alt.binaries.uma-thurman late last year attests, there's hope yet for a stellar follow-up to Free So Free:
"Really J, it's for the best. We're two different people now, we can't give in to those easy old feelings. What we had was special...it was innocent, magical, and most of all, it wasn't real. We were bouncing back giddy passion and foolish conviction, things we only wished we understood. Don't think I'm turning my back on you, J, don't ever think that. I still daydream of us dancing beneath the high tension wires, hiding schnapps under our coats and checking each other's breath, but we just can't carry each other around anymore J, it's time we move on.
Love,
Uma"
There's no source for that in the review, really, and a couple searches didn't get me anything. Anyone know about this?
