Just saw this on yahoo this morning, while im not surprised i didn't expect the percentages to be so bad, pretty depressing actually:
http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-obama-race;_ylt=Ar36WA0VsTYTcwhMIHEpKUus0 NUE
But Obama faces this: 40 percent of all white Americans hold at least a partly negative view toward blacks, and that includes many Democrats and independents.
Civil rights ended in the 60's, get with the fucking program. Old white people are really annoying. Where'd they poll? Texas? (No offense to you Texas dudes :O )

Hey, in my state's defense there is a lot of racism above the Mason-Dixon line as well, granted the north never really had racist institutions entrenched as much as the South.

In the PA Democratic primary, something like 25% of voters said race played a major role in their decision and 75% of those 25% voted for Hillary. One of the big things Obama is going to have to overcome to win PA in November.

he better. white supremacy is so fucking unfounded because back when the first africans were enslaved it had NOTHING to do with color, it was just an uncontested conquest due to the tribal africans' lack of war technology. and the fact tribe leaders sold their own people into slavery as well. but of course the ignorant people of the next generation are all, "oh white people in this country own black people so we must be superior"

You also have to look at the fact that something like 94 percent of blacks are voting for Obama. Racism?
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1192
According to this blacks vote for Obama by a 94-1 margin. I think this poll could be off but it still indicates how many blacks are voting for Obama.

i mean sure reverse racism is also a large problem in this country but reverse racism wouldnt exist without the influence of forward racism. and besides, at least black people have a basis to believe that 70 year old white men dont properly represent them

White people perfected it into Chattel slavery and used rampant ethnocentrism to justify it. They also used this to justify slaughtering off pretty much every group of natives they encountered anywhere. The logic Mary Rowlandson uses is remarkably similar to the logic Olauduh Equiano has used on him, and he even thinks similar things of whites that Rowlandson did of native americans.

Yep. Pittsburgh, where I lived for 3 years, is very staunchly Democrat, but it is also one of the most racist places I have ever been. My friends out there say that Obama is not well liked for the most part.

Spot on. And that number is even more crazy in certain states. I know in NC that number has been lingering around 90% of blacks voting for Obama. I like the timing of these "racism" claims in the media too, as it comes when Obama sent the Spanish commercial out to border and Immigrant states to try an inflame racial hatred toward the McCain camp using quotes from a parody that Rush Limbaugh did. Those commercials are absolutely disgusting for a political campaign, where the point is to instill hatred into a minority and get them to vote for you.

you know what it all boils down to? people don't give a shit what they are voting for, they only vote Democat or Republican, Black or White, Christian or Non. It has nothing to do with what they believe in to change the nation. Or only 15% of people vote for who they think will run this place best.

i don't see how that ad inflames racial hatred....i can see a case for it being misleading though, which is stupidity on the part of the obama campaign since there's no need to resort to this sort of thing as past stances on real issues are more then enough to bury mccain.
94% isn't at all absurd when compared to past election votes......it wasn't reverse racism when 88% of blacks who voted, voted for kerry so it isn't when 94% supposedly plan to vote obama......or are you trying to say that kerry is in fact a black man?

Those quotes serve no purpose other than to get Hispanics angry at Rush Limbaugh, and then they link John McCain to Rush (which in itself is absurd cause Rush is not McCain's biggest fan) in order to get them thinking McCain feels the same way... If you're sticking bullshit quotes like that in an ad there's obviously a purpose to fuel hatred.

I'm sorry but racism is going to play a huge part in this election.
Look I live in Pennsylvania, in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia which is one of the most liberal, democratic regions in the states. Yet for this election, the number of McCain signs on lawns and bumpersticks outnumber those for Obama by about a 10 to 1 margin. Now I've had plenty of discussions with individuals as to who they plan to vote for in the election and the grand majority of those who are voting for McCain say (again in this Democratic town) is that they just dont like Obama (although I have had a few flat out say they wont vote for a black man).
Yes, as a country we have come a long way since the civil rights marches in the south, but that doesnt mean we have overcome deep rooted racist beliefs in this country (north, south, east, west, wherever). There is a quote in the article that says it best... "There are fewer biggots but that doesnt mean there are only a few biggots." You can debate policy issues all you want, none of that matters if some cant get over the color of one's skin. It shouldn't matter any more, sadly to many it does.
I hope Obama wins this election and I hope he wins my state, just wanted to state my opinion how I wouldnt be surprised how in this political landscape he can still lose.

I don't know. I don't necessarily agree with it. although I suppose it wouldn't be an issue if white people did fuck minorities over all the time. ideally I'd say "race" should not be considered in anything. it doesn't even exist, it's simply a social construct to create an "outsider". really there's only one race -- the human race.

There is two types of racism in this country one of it is overt and the other one is subtle. Here in Texas you can easily find people that will talk the most horrid trash about Blacks, Mexicans, Asians you name it. These are mostly blue-collar hick types that speak with annoying ass accents and say all sorts of ridiculous shit. There is also a certain amount of racism that comes from richer demographics case in point my friend and I are waiting to meet up with other friends at an upscale theater here in North Dallas I am pretty fair complected for a Mexican my friend is not we; whilst having a few cigarettes near an ATM machine we noticed that people began to walk around, couples would hold on to each other tighter, moms would grip their kids tighter. We did have one white college girl that did talk to us in Spanish but that was after multiple subtle displays of racism.

Look at the quotes and the context they are used...
"stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and "You shut your mouth or you get out!"
How are those going to be used for anything other than getting people to hate the individual that said them, then linking McCain to that person...
What else is the point of putting those quotes form Rush in there?

Race exists. I understand what you are saying, but you aren't saying it right. You think race is stupid because its a social construct instead of natural order.
However, on the a molecular genetic level, there are differences between white, black, indian, asian, etc...
I don't think anyone would agree with you that the bias coming from the skin color/stereotypes associated with race is disgusting, but race exists.

no. no, it doesn't. it is a social construct. there's only one race -- the human race. if you compare DNA, you would find more similarities between a group of mixed "races" than you would between a group of white people. I've sat in countless classes for different subjects at different schools and heard different teachers say this.
it's not some scientific thing. race is just something people made up so they could be assholes and be better than other people.

See, that's a myth. There is very little difference, to the point where categorization is impossible. These differences you may be thinking of -- i.e. susceptibility to sickle-cell, pigmentation in skin, etc -- are just regional variations that have been mixed into various populations over time. There really isn't any notable difference.
As anthropologists, this idea is our life. Race really does not exist. As LiarsTurnMeOn said, there is greater variation between two people sitting next to each other of the same "race," in which case you would be referring to their skin color, than between either person and another in Africa, or Asia. Any kind of physical difference you can observe plays into less than one percent of DNA. A very long time ago, race did exist among humans. There were three feet tall humans, there were our ancestral homo sapiens, and there were other versions of the homonid, and THEY were different on the "molecular-genetic" level, and they existed at the same time, in geographic isolation. That is the equivalent of having elves, humans, and dwarves, if you need an example. Today, we only have humans.
I know, it's a bummer ;]
