I have a feeling that this film will have allot of the same qualities as the foot fist way. I personally loved the foot fist way, but I can also see why somebody would not care for it.

I'm not too sure about this one. I'd like to believe that Seth isn't going to start taking any role tossed at him, but this looks pretty bad for him. Of course I'll wait to see any scenes/trailers before I make a real decision but I can't even tell if this is a kids movie or what?

He's a fan of Foot Fist Way, and Jody Hill was actually in Superbad (with Ben Best and Danny McBride in the background) so he's not just making this movie for the sake of making a movie.

and surprise, surprise, Danny McBride sighting in the trailer

03/22/09, 03:30 AM
But does this not almost look like a pretty dark comedy?

Jody Hill's original idea was to cast Rogen and then no other comedians. He took out stuff that was too comedic, and wanted everything darker.

Loved The Fist Foot Way. Will be checking this out.

The fact that Seth is slightly overweight looking makes this film feel like it was filmed a while ago.

Still, has lots of potential

This regular trailer for this makes it look really poor.

BryterJonah
04/04/09, 01:37 PM
It was filmed back in march 08. I could be wrong I think he purposely gain weight and got his hair cut for this movie
I'm just being this to his more recent physique. Like he looks more Knocked Up era Rogen here, which still ain't that bad.

When I first saw the trailer for this I thought, didn't this movie already come out? Didn't I already see this movie? Didn't this movie suck? Now it actually seems like a (much) better version of Mall Cop, which was to much of a kid's movie for me and wasn't funny. This should be better.

Adeniz19

a lot of the reviews so far are saying this is actually a pretty dark comedy and not what they expected.

Adeniz19
04/04/09, 03:37 PM
That is exactly what I expected because both of Jody Hill's projects, Eastbound and Down and Foot Fist Way, arer pretty dark. I hear its pretty violent as welli haven't seen either, but that news kind of makes me a little more intersted in checking it out. i bet sales are going to hurt since it's released pretty close to paul blart

circatbs
04/04/09, 05:35 PM
You should check out both EastBound and Foot Fist Way. Both are fucking hilarious and unique dark comedies. The audience for Observe and Report is a polar opposite of the Paul Blart shit so I don't see it affecting revenue. I'm sure many people, myself included, that are stoked for Observe haven't seen and have no interest in Paul Blart. Also PB is pretty much only in discount theaters right now

I saw Paul Blart, thought it was ok. It was actually not that much of a comedy, more of an extremely poorly made suspense film. I think this will be better.

I saw this in a sneak preview at my school on Thursday. It was shortly after I had proclaimed that I would see any movie that Seth Rogan acted in, but this made me eat my words. It was awful and not funny at all. I'm glad I didn't have to spend money on it, but sad I can't have the two hours of my life back. Seriously, don't waste your time or money.

Paul Blart is a kids movie. So that would explain why you didn't like it.

jusscali
04/06/09, 12:40 PM
Why is that?

I really feel like that's rather self explanatory. It's going to be over the top, overly vulgar, more than likely misogynistic - and given all the violence that they are saying is going to be in it - just doesn't seem like a movie girls would like. For example, any intelligent, respectful female I know hates Superbad and films of the same nature.

jusscali
04/06/09, 12:46 PM
To be entirely honest, I don't mind they don't get into it. They are more lady like in my eyes and while I love my friends that are girls that can be down with the guys, I also like having those on the other side of things as well.

I've been saying that I want to see this and everyone just says "oh it's just going to be another stupid mall movie." Glad to hear there's some real substance to it. I think it's great that there are some comedies out that are kinda under the mainstream's radar, like Adventureland (some kids at school have been saying it wasn't even a comedy, which is complete bullshit). Not a very good movie. Not at all as over the top as everyone seems to be making it out to be, not quotable at all, supporting cast sucked dick mostly, and the storyline was pretty dumb.

Sure, I laughed, but compared to other comedies that have come out in the past yearish this isn't even up there

I didn't enjoy this movie at all. It offered a couple of laughs, but you spend most of your time feeling bad about how fucking out of touch Seth Rogen's character is. I also fucking HATE Anna Faris. She's ugly and stupid. I didn't think it was possible to look like a bitchy person without opening your mouth, but she pulls it off. Well I guess she does open her mouth with that fucking stupid lip curl she constantly has plastered on her face. I really like Seth Rogan, but this movie has is hard pressed to make a 6/10 on my scale. Maybe it's just not for me though.

With you 100%. Faris and Liota just aren't funny...at all. Pena brings some laughs, but not nearly as many as I had anticipated. The asians are only really good for the initial laugh. Aside from when they are kicking the shit out of people its really just not that funny.

I know what you mean, and I love crude humor for the most part. I mean, I have absolutely nothing against it, it just gets old. I guess I'm a much bigger fan of more "intelligent" or "subtle" (for lack of a better word) humor. (ie movies like This Is Spinal Tap, Hot Fuzz, Monty Python and the Life Of Brian, etc)

I'll still give this movie a shot though. I'm thinking I'll just wait for it to hit DVD though.

That's a good call, I wouldn't spend money on it. My friend works at the theatre so it was free. B

Fucking hilarious, offensive, and just fantastic movie. Jody Hill delivers yet again, Seth Rogen is superb, and Ray Liotta is fucking ridiculously awesome. Danny Mcbride's cameo was great and I wish he was in it more. Obviously this movie isn't for everybody but everyone should give it a chance. They might be blown away like I was. Fuck the haters because they just don't get the movie.

The chase scene with Where Is My Mind was simply mind blowing. It really fit the scene perfectly just like it did in Fight Club

Yeah, everyone should give it a chance, on DvD

Or maybe people should be more open minded. Jody Hill is a fucking genius and his style of comedy is always funny.

No. I'm a huge fan of his other stuff, this movie just wasn't that good - maybe you could argue otherwise, but I'd still suggest people either see a matinee, or avoid the movie until it comes out to DvD. Also, again, as a fan of his stuff, it is simply ridiculous to refer to Hill as a genius of any kind - maybe a cool, funny dude, but ehhhh

jusscali

I understand that its a love it or hate it kind of movie. That is exactly why everyone should give it a chance because they just might love it. People should as least see a matinee rather than waiting for it on DVD or not seeing it at all.

I'm just saying I'm one to love this stuff, rather than hate it. And like I said, as one of those people - who understands what Hill is doing or rather trying to do and usually enjoys it quite a bit - this film just had more misses than hits for me.

jusscali
04/14/09, 08:09 AM
It's all earlier in the thread, and a number of people have provided similar feelings. For starters, this wasn't nearly as over the top as the reviews or early previews had suggested - I see no boundaries being pushed here. I think Faris and Liota fail for the most part. Just in general I was overwhelmed and bored.

I'm with you.

She was supposed to play a bitch..? You weren't supposed to like her, or any of the other characters for that matter.

Saw this last night. Thought it had some really funny parts but overall, not too good. I guess I'm just kind of getting tired of these comedies that are solely placed on crude humor. Also, definitely was not a fan of the 10 mins. of floppy fat man weiner.

I thought the entire last 10 minutes was fucking HILARIOUS. And I don't think the movie was soley placed on crude humor...yes there was a lot of it but this was a very dark comedy and I loved the fact that we are basically put up to hate each and every character.

why would i blow up chick-fil-a? chick-fil-a is fucking delicious!

Hahaha. I also loved the whole fuck you...fuck you....fuck you....fuck you....etc exchange

Movie opened at #4 with $11.1 million. I expect the numbers will fall off hard in the weeks to come as I think this will Seth Rogen's "The Cable Guy." Way dark, but enjoyable.

The budget for the film was pretty small so I think it will at least meet budget by the time it's taken out of theaters. I thought it did well considering the number of screens it was on and all the while going up against hannah montana and F&F.

I know what they are supposed to do, I'm sure he does too, but I also think what he said wasn't remotely moronic and that he has every fucking right to whine about what he damn well pleases. So what he plays an asshole very well and is simply way fucking funnier than Seth Rogen will ever be. I generally love the movies Seth Rogen is in but he is rarely the funniest gyt in them. Usually the supporting actors in a given movie fucking own him except for Superbad. Danny Mcbride should never be compared to Cera because Cera isn't even that funny. At least Mcbride changes his silly hair and stache in every movie something Cera doesn't bother with (except for Year One).
Haha. Wow. Simmer down.

I'm just saying Danny McBride will typecast himself the same way Michael Cera is doing, playing the same character. Besides, he plays his characters with much more of a sense of detachment and coldness that I don't think would have made Seth Rogen's character likable at all (if he ever was likable in the first place), DM would just basically be playing Kenny Powers all over again except a little more violent. Being funny doesn't really matter in a role like this cause, really, the main character isn't meant to be that laughable. I thought Seth was a perfect fit.

Wow. People are still comparing the the two?

There's no comparison outside of both being about mall cops! "O&R" is a dark comedy about a bipolar man with delusions of grandeur on the edge of a mental meltdown.

"Paul Blart" is a Die Hard ripoff strictly for kids.

It's like comparing "Terminator" with "Wall-e."

The difference with your comparison is they are like 25 years apart.

No matter how much different the undertones of the 2 movies are, when you release 2 movies, which are both comedies, and about a mallcop (which is rarely done)..within a month or 2..they will no doubt draw comparisons...and rightfully so

I thought the movie did what it intended to do. It's a "dark" comedy, and if you like laughing at despicable people who do terrible things, then it works. It definitely went way over the top (i.e. the date rape scene, because there is no doubt that is date rape) and I was squirming in my seat during that scene. But people going into it expecting another Knocked Up/Superbad were definitely taken aback by it
