Matchbook Romance was so much cooler as the Getaway. and even then, they were still pretty crappy. if they blow up, it'll be because they are watered down to no end.

Hawthorne Heights is way too generic for me, I can't get into them. The only reason they're so popular is because of the influx of people into the "scene" this year. Suddenly it's cool to like screamo/emo/indie/whatever name you want to call it. People started loving "Ohio is for Lovers" because they don't really know what is actually good in this genre...
Does that make sense?

if hawthorne heights knew how to piece a song together, they would be awesome. both the singing and screaming is decent, it's just the way everything is put together with the horrible music and TERRIBLE lyrics.

I may listen to some generic bands, I admit but dang Hawthorne Heights is so bad. A lot of so called generic bands do it so much better than them. I don't understand why they are popular. Lackluster songs and cliche lyrics must equal talent these days.

it's kinda like MBR put their best song first on the CD then slowly declined song by song (althought the last one isn't bad). but yeah, i really dug track 2, 3, and 4 off the first cd.
and hawthorne heights is what would happen if early november tried to be more "metal" (notice the irony there).

i like hawthorne alot better than matchbook. MBR had one of the shittiest shows i've seen, where HH was actually pretty good i thought, and the guys were cool. yeah, it isn't the most mind stimulating material out there, but i dont care about buying into some big fuck you HH bandwagon, whatever. oh shit there go my ap.net scene points, blah blah.

So yeah, I can think of quite a few bands who deserve the cover of AP more than Matchbook Romance and Hawthorne Heights...espescially when it's an issue devoted to bands you need to know in 2005.
For starters, how about The Starting Line? Their album comes out in the spring, and though they've been featured before, they might as well get on the cover again. How about Finch, returning from nearly three years off to release a new album in the spring as well? Granted it's a little late, but for that matter, how about Jimmy Eat World, who I've never seen on the cover of AP and who released arguably the best album of 2004 and who look to have a big year. How about a friggin collage cover with 5 or 6 new bands about to break?
For a magazine devoted to being "Alternative Press", why not try being the alternative to the very thing they've promoted for a good three years? They've always given focus to bands playing "that style" of music, and it's time for a national publication like AltPress to use it's best feature, Low Profile, to bring new bands to the forefront of the scene.

I do think they are going to blow up I have seen them 5 times and each time the crowd got bigger and more into them. Are they original no but who cares I enjoy hearing about the same thing over and over again sometimes since that is what I like. As for HH I dont mind them either and one of the posts about them yesterday more people liked them than disliked them for once.
quitmyscene

that post needs more punctuation than 3 periods.
i could easily see matchbook romance getting bigger, assuming the new cd is as good/better than the last one. promise was everyone in town's favorite song for a while.

cause its bands to look for in 2005... goldfinger will never be big, although they deserve it way more then both of these bands...
i like mbr, but i will admit just about every song is the same, i stil really liked their cd though, its one of those cds that you just put in and the simple, depressing, easy to relate to lyrics just make you think about shit. kinda like what tbs's tell all your firends did but on a much less important scale. i do agree that they need to do somthing really original on this new album though, i can see them running out of ideas really quick, because their lyrics arnt all that original. at all. i havnt really listened to HH but i heard "Ohio is for lovers" and i must say their sound is decent at best, but the song in general makes Senses Fail look like geniouses. one of the worst songs ever in this genre. step up your lyrics, maybe maturity will kick in and you might have a chance.... I doubt it though.

Its probably due to the humongous sticker on their album that says "For fans of TAKING BACK SUNDAY and THURSDAY"
I inadvertantly saw them once and they were horrible...then some guy came out smashing a cowbell during their one song, trying to save their performance...alas, he could not.
hawthorne heights has to be one of the worst bands out there right now.

I just have one thing to say: Shut the fuck up you whiny, I am a sad and lonely emo kid, mommy and daddy never paid any attention to me, fucking losers. Like someone said, who gives a shit about who is on the cover. We are all gonna end up reading it anyway and most likely halfway through the issue we will all forget about how our whiny asses made such a big deal about the cover. So what if most of you don't like HH, get over it, other people do. it does not make them a bad fucking person. sorry that not everyone likes the IN bands like: Fall Out Boy, Coheed, yellowcard, My Chemical Romance, Say Anything, and blah blah blah. The reality is that people actually like the bands that aren't cool like: Hawthorne Heights, Senses Fail, the Used, and blah blah blah. speaking of old school, i found my gorillaz cd today ... makes me think of chinese food... back in my pot smoking days we used to get high at my friends house and walk to a 24hr chinese retaurant
For a band hated as much as Hawthorne Heights, they sure sold a shitload of records. And that is without radio or MTV. Therefore, I come to the conclusion that a lot of you bought their CD. Needless to say, if they want people aon their side then they should just write a scathing letter to everybody on this site, get it posted, and then they will have thousands of kids all over their dicks who have always been there for them even though they were badmouthing them earlier. It always seems to work.

It always amazes me how people can be like, "GenericPopPunkEmoBand #1 is soooo shitty, I hate them so much! But GenericPopPunkEmoBand #2 is amazing! I love them so much!" Why is AP sucking so much? They need to cover a wider variety of music and put better bands on the cover. I shouldn't have renewed my subscription last time I got it, but every so often they'll surprise me by covering a band I really like (Ted Leo, Rilo Kiley, The Good Life, Bright Eyes). Their review section does an okay job of reviewing various releases, I suppose, but the good articles are far and few between (or, not necessarily good articles but about good bands). I guess I should just stick to Spin and Filter, not necessarily great magazines, but at least they cover a wider variety of bands I like.

yup.. AP is a business, gotta sell copies. and i guess they don't like it - they bitch about it in the feature in the mag about "the History of AP" or something, but oh well... theyve had Korn, Slipknot, ICP, at least you scene kids would say it's better than THAT now.
hheights maybe suck but admit that that shit is catchy.
i would pray for an MBR cover, since their music is quite a bit better, but HH is probably prettier to have on it. shrug? i'll deal. like someone up there said- halfway through the magizine you'll forget the damn thing even has a cover. hmm, does it really matter.
