Drive-Thru Records (http://drivethrurecords.com) announced the signing of Morning Call (http://www.morningcallmusic.com/) today. There's a new flash intro welcoming the band on Drive-Thru's website.

Nice Icon.... hah.... 2nd I belive this band is nothing special and Houstan Calls should have definetly been picked instead of this band. Reminds me of E11.

01/05/05, 07:08 PM
.....they.....look like.....an abercrombie and fitch ad! this is pathetic, im thinking that DTR just signed them so that they can be an international label
meekers
01/05/05, 07:15 PM
its funny because dtr is trying to sign bands to make them have different sounding bands....but all these bands sound exactly the same
spotcollins
01/05/05, 07:24 PM
so... they've started a sister label so that DTR doesn't get crowded, and have signed three bands to it, while Adelphi, Socratic, Hellogoodbye, and Halifax still haven't released CDs on their label (of material not available before their signing)... Self Against City needs to be on Drive Thru and Morning Call should be on Rushmore... although what's really the difference? The amount of money they have to put in for promotion? The logo on the spine of the CD? Drive Thru even posts Rushmore news on their website... just put those bands on Drive Thru and save everyone the trouble of trying to figure out wtf is going on!

alright 2005 prediction. rushmore records will dominate the drive thru roster. this band, while they aren't bad, they are nothing to write home about.

Dear Drive Thru,
Slow down on the signings, focus on talent. Promote the shit out of what you have thats worth it (I Can Make a Mess, E11, I Am the Avalanche, Hidden In Plain View, Hellogoodbye, and a few others). Regain your former glory. Once you've put out some decent full lengths, then go hog wild with getting new acts on board.
Thanks

rushmore, not DTR

they're not too bad....a little generic though. ( "run away...run away...run away...from here") It's a little boring in that it keeps that generic, simple rythm for way too long. (talking about 'rocket science')
unoriginal.

ok like i am not one to bash drive thru, I have enjoyed many of their bands throughout the years and what not, but this is just too much, i cant imagine what their possibly thinking ? I have never heard such a generic, boring band get signed to a reputable label. I mean houston calls, self against city, the track record ( all on rushmore) are ten times better than these guys, also wasn't rushmore supposed to be the sister label for bands who drive thru liked but wasn't quite sure about putting out records on the main label for them? I dont know man, I enjoy alot of bands on drive thru and what not, but yea definitely put out records for the bands you have and not sign such boring music, i'm in shock that a band this boring gets signed to drive thru.

i must say that i agree with pretty much everyone else b/c this is getting ridiculous. it was bad enough when drive thru signed an angle, but now they sign a band who has been around for less than a year, when an amazing band like houston calls gets stuck on essentially their back-up label. i think drive thru's eye for talent is going blind.

DTR is getting a little too crowded. Adelphi and this band should be on Rushmore for sure.

predictability is the new black.
also, since i submitted it earlier today and no one posted it, the dudes in first aid kit have another band called being human being who actually write quality tunes, not trying to sound like the derivative of the derivative.
they posted three brand new songs today on http://www.beinghumanbeing.net

i agree with everyone about the rushmore thing. self against city and houston calls are so much better than this, i don't really get it at all. but whatever i can't wait for SAC and HC full lengths.
Throw 100 pop punks bands at a wall. If 2 stick, DTR wins.
This band isn't anything special.

correct me if i'm wrong, but why would you want to put the "better bands " (or what you think is better) on the bigger label when you are trying to build the foundation of the new label. Starting line allister something corporate and fenix and nfg didn't sound as professional as they do now, when the label was first getting started. I'm pretty sure the label(s) know what their doing, so cut em a break. Signed good bands to a small label is called an investment, and i think if those bands are good enough they will all get what they deserve. bye.

If they're gonna sign a Canadian band they should sign Cassidy... Unless they're already signed. :P But they could ditch their other label for DTR. ;) I dont mind this band, they're pretty good.
But... I ADORE Houston Calls. I'd rather see them under "Drive-Thru" than "Rushmore". ;_;

it's just kind of stupid that there are 2095832582056863 other bands working their asses off that are just as good and these guys get signed after being together a few months.
finchfan313
01/05/05, 09:53 PM
I couldn' t agree more. They've been together "officially" since last April. It really pisses me off to see a band get signed that fast, considering most labels my band has looked at say that you should be together at least a year without any lineup changes before persuing a label. This is ridiculous. DTR makes me laugh now. When they had Fenix Tx, Rx Bandits, Finch, Home Grown, the Early November, Allister and the Movielife, I considered them respectable. They were dominating then and they're stage was kickass at Warped Tour. Now Drive Thru just seems like a joke, signing anything and everything they hope someone might mistake for the next taking back sunday.
Can someone in Canada tell me they've heard of these guys before? please.

No...a Canadian band that drive thru hasnt payed attention to that SMOKE these guys are Far From Heroes...anyone who's listened to these guys knows what I'm talking about..they are way better than any of the new shit drive thru has signed, and are pretty close to being in the same vein as most of it.

Not to denote the fact that they might have some excellent new stuff., but the stuff i've heard really makes me think about what DTR saw in these guys to jump on them so quickly, maybe their new stuff will be "amazing" but i really do not see that happening unless they come up with something completely different than what they have out now. Who knows maybe they will and thats why DTR signed them.

01/05/05, 10:26 PM
seriously though, these guys can't be older than 20 and they've been together since april. there are SO many bands that deserve this more than this band. and they've been touring on their own dime for years. and i'm sure a lot of them have submitted demos to drive thru only to be rejected for not sounding like a bunch of kids that probably got into the "scene" about a month before starting their band.

what the fuck is a "scene" label? if you are referring to a label that consistently puts out good music by a diverse range of artists, then most people would swear that so called "scene" label off if they signed this garbage.
this form of music is the new boy band. a friend of mine posted this on a message board the other day...
"i just realized the moment that pop punk "jumped the shark" was when bands stopped singing about farts and boners and dog pooh and coffee and began singing things about feelings and their vaginas"

secondly, I never bitched about anything, all I said was that they deserve it more and they do, so go suck a fat one you ass spelunker.
