Here I am, 19 years old, working and putting money in my pocket wondering when then hell I'm gonna start college. The the thought came to me...When I get there, am I gonna be the weird old guy who waited way to long?

When do you think your too old to start school?

it's never too late to start in my opinion. I know of a lot of people who started school late, and if you're really worried about being the weird old guy you could always just take night courses with other adults or something. But I'd also have to say the sooner the better.
As soon as i get back to the states i'm planning on taking some classes at the community college off of base and also some online courses so when i get out of the corps i'll be up to speed and i'll just transfer to whatever school i can to get my degree.

Yea, at the rate I'm going now...I'll probably start the fall after my 21st, and thats like when most people are in their junior year. I got this thing going where I wanna be pretty stable money wise before I go, as to not end up like 50G in debt like my brother.

Starting at 21 isn't too bad...

yeah that sounds like a pretty smart plan. i'm not so worried about the money seeing as i get free schooling while i'm in and 50g's(the standard 32 for the montgomery GI bill and an 18g bonus i lucked out on cause my recruiter hooked me up) for school when i get out. So now it's more about fitting time into my schedule for it. Thats why I'm thinking of taking online courses cause you can do them at your own pace or whenever you get the chance, which would make it a lot easier to actually get done, but then again it's not quite the same as learning in a classroom enviorment where you can just openly discuss what you've learned as you're learning it. Either way, as long as you do what you have to do to get by, then do it.

its better to start late than to start at the same age as everyone else, then drop out because your course isn't actually what you wanted to do... i took 2 yrs off and now i'm off to uni at 21. i don't mind cos otherwise i'd be halfway through a degree i have no interest in anymore. no wasted years or uni fees!!

I was thinking the same thing, I am taking college courses now but I'm wondering when I should go back and go to college full time, part of it is getting the right amount of credits I think I'll end up going Spring of '05 right before my 20th birthday but who knows.

I think there is never "too old" but I think you should go to college right out of High School, then you get the full college experience. That has been pressed into my mind by my dad since the day I was born which was 2 months after he graduated college, at the age of 32?. I love college even tho I'm like 10k in debt already. haha Point being an education is more important than being the "weird old guy" but going early as possible is best.

I don't think you could ever be too old to be in college. Although I will say this, there was some guy that was like 30 something and lived in the dorms my freshman year. Not only did he live in the dorms, but he decided to join a frat and he had a girlfriend that was a freshman! I don't think you could ever to be too old for college, but just don't be that guy. :P

i honestly believe it is better to start college at an older age.. when you a kid at college all you are worried about is the party and girls and crap like that... yes you can still get good grades. but when your older you are more focused and more determined... my mom went to college pretty late and got straight a's and i notice in alot my classes the older people are the ones who ask questions and dont give a crap if its a dumb question they really want to learn

why is everyone in such a rush to get through college and out into the "real world".. do you people realize that after college, its basically a lifetime of working. schedules. routines. bullshit.?. i say, embrace the time you have in college, and dont worry about getting out so quickly, because in my opinion, it keeps you young. so to answer your original question, theESCO, you're never too old.

ok so it's a cliche answer, but i really don't think it's ever too late to start college. and if you feel awkward doing the whole dorm experience, you can always take night classes

i think there's positives and negatives to going straight out of hs, as well as going when you're older (let's call older early to mid 20s)

when going straight out of hs, it serves as a good lead to living on your own. you have to learn to basically be self sufficient, but there are tons of resources available to help. you're also with tons of people who are your own age going through the same experience.
on the other hand, you have to worry about money, the opposite sex, learning how to be self sufficient

by waiting to go when you're a little older, you're pretty much self sufficient and all you really need to focus on is school. however, you might have a harder time relating to the kids in your classes

you're**********

I didn't go to college straight out of high school.
I worked full time to get some extra cash, and so that I could move out of my parents house.
Now i'm living with my boyfriend, working full time and having fun.

Next year after I move to New Jersey, I'll probably be taking some classes.
Personally, when I waited, it was a chance for me to grow up, figure out the real world and find out what I really wanted to do with my life.

Did I really still want to educate myself further with graphic media or did I want to start studying Ancient Roman History? I'd rather figure all of that out before going to school, wasting away money on classes I won't need if I plan on chaning my major.
