Reality vs. The Optimist is such an amazing record. Really, really great debut. Excited to see what they'll put out next, I sure am!
Anybody else on this site a fan?

Reality vs. The Optimist was alright, the 3 or 4 songs that were just like 11-30 seconds of nothing annoyed the hell out of me though, makes me feel cheated .
I heard they were working on new material, any idea when it comes out?

Really? I thought it was an amazing album, one of my favorites of the year for sure. And no, I never heard anything about new stuff.

Does it have anything to do with the hot chick playing violin in the band?

she's not in the band anymore, not that it matters. their new violin player is good.

How do you like the new record? And wikipedia (yeah yeah yeah, not reliable) says they've had quite a few line-up changes. That, along with Eyeball Records being lame, could have been reason to postpone the record.

Oh yeah, definitely. I just love female vocals in general, and this year has been a stellar year for female vocals so far.

it really has been... i can't wait to find a good pop/jazz vocalist to get into this year. Any suggestions?

A good pop voice is The Bird and the Bee. I don't know my jazz, so i can't swing anything your way about that. And people are really like Bat For Lashes - Two Suns.

Really? How many of them would you say are new?
Do you like it better since it's less poppy?

I recognized like three of them and a couple parts in another from the past, but even the old songs were in newer forms on the album.
and yeah i like it better because it's more noisy which is a better representation of how they sound live.

Yeah, usually older songs take on a lot of change before they're on an album.
I bet they're a riot to see live. This album has much of a big feel (i hate to say) 'epic' feel to it. Especially songs like 'If They Only Knew'.

Excellent. I say both albums have no filler, except sometimes those 30 second noise blips on RVO.

The last track, Virus, for one - it drags on needlessly forever. Whilst this can occasionally come off pretty good, i wasn't feeling it at all. It felt like they did it to just pad out the album.
Admittedly, i didn't give this album as much chance as i should have, but i just didn't think it was that great when listening too it.
yeah Ditto for the post above, if anything i thought it contained less "filler" then RV.O.
Yeah, true. The couple of songs that were like 10-30 seconds long really added nothing to the album. I just wasn't really grabbed by anything on TMSIWL, they seemed to recycle the same ideas and didn't really progress in the way i was expecting.

09/15/09, 04:36 PM
so Virus does go on for too long, the rest of the album is fantastic i'd recommend giving it another shot, maybe it'll grow on you.

Also, unless the definition of filler has changed, TWSIHWL has WAY less filler. This band is awesome. Need to see them live.

two of the dudes in this band and I once scammed some annoying, drunk sorority girls into paying for our steak and shake by telling them we were the academy is.
then we went to my friend's house where they were staying and listened to pageninetynine for awhile. they were cool.
