Do you have any Rules when you make mix cd's?

Like, me and my friends have this rule... you can't use two or more songs from the same band/musician in the mix and stuff. Only one song from each band/musician.

I can't think of any others....

it cant involve Korn. anything that involves korn is bad.

Haha.

I just have that one rule "no two songs from one band". I also try to avoid having a side project and that person's original band on the same mix, but I usually fail at this without even realizing it.

I have a bunch.

Try to avoid bands that start with the same letter, or that both start with "The" from being next to each other.

A band can be used twice if you start and end the entire mix with them.

Two versions of a song can be used (i.e. cover and original) if you start and end with them

otherwise, each band can only be used once on the mix, and if there's a side project of a band, it needs to be on the opposite end of the mix, though i try to stay awaf from it.

trying to match up songs that end on a note with a song that begins on the same one sounds really good if you crossfade.

if it's an actual tape, i don't let there be more than 1 minute of silence at the end of the tape.

let it go. it was not a zing or a one up of any kind, at best a feeble attempt. if you hate on people so harshly for a single band they listen to, no one will ever like you.

and seriously guys, isn't life all about people on an internet message board liking you?

Me and my friends have this CD collection for "cruising" (haha) and the rules are that there have to be songs from more than 3 genres, there can't be any slow songs and there is one "spotlight" band where we have 3+ songs by them mixed around.

So far we have 8 volumes starting from grade 10 and it's so funny listening to our first few because the music is sooo bad and totally not diverse but we loved them so much when we first made them.

I try to make the crossfades work out well. Like don't have a really slow song start at the end of My Chemical Romance or MSI or something.

Two similar sounding bands or songs cant go right next to each other. Say...its not an all acoustic cd, yet back to back songs start with an acoustic guitar, yuck.

when i make mixes of shit i'd like to listen to while driving, i want the genres to fade into each other, so i don't have bright eyes next to norma jean ...

Try to stay away from 2+ songs from the same artist on the cd...but sometimes that doesn't work out...I don't know if it's necessarily a rule but I order my songs in reverse alphabetical order by artist name just b/c I have to have some order to it...or maybe I'm just weird.

I have this tendency to put my first slower song at track 12. Just a weird habit, but then the track right after the first slow on is usually one with a kickass intro that gets the energy right back up. Also, I try to make my second track even heavier then the first.

For the most part, same rules. I do not actually make tapes though.
