true

I am the only one that thinks it is funny that this is the first real success for Modest Mouse. They have been making albums since the early 90's yet this is the first time people have heard about them. I hear on a weekly bases, "Hey have you heard of this band Modest Mouse, there soooo great." Yes for the last 4 years I have been listening to them.

I personally think the Moon and Antartica is much better even though the albums sales are way below Good News.....

I still love Modest Mouse though... (and Bon Jovi)

I am sure many people think that, but I wouldn't say this is the first real success for them at all. If you consider a band successful only once they have sold hundreds of thousands of records, plauged the radio, and found themselves nominated for Grammys then I think you may have a different perspective of success than some. Most people would say the same thing you have, that The Moon And Antartica is their best. By cult standards, that seems to be generally accepted. Personally, I would have to say I like Lonesome Crowded West best or maybe even This Is A Long Drive..., because I heard those first and I guess they just stick out in my mind for that reason.

Regardless, I am very happy when people ask me "Hey have you heard of this band Modest Mouse?", and I smile and tell them how I love them so. Modest Mouse deserve every bit of what is coming to them right now. They have been such a hard working band for so long, and they just keep doing what they have been doing. Never once did they stop and say, "Hey, let's finally write a catchier dumbed down album to appeal to a wider audience." Instead, after years of just being themselves, this latest album stuck (which I love and feel is more than up to par with all their other work). It's incredible to see them continually coming back here through all the years, gradually playing larger and larger venues, and now they'll be back in February at a fuckin' amphitheater! I couldn't be more stoked. It's great to see that they are becoming the huge rockstars they deserve. Every generation has bands that are more than Top 40, and are the movements of those decades. I have thought for some time Modest Mouse would be one of ours, and I am glad to see that prophecy being fulfilled...

Cheers!

I hate that. It's stupid of me to get annoyed by it, but when I was riding the train home a few months ago, I guess it was, some girl was talking to her friend saying "Have you heard of this new band, modest mouse?" I wanted to yell at her because I'm an angry person, but I just sat there wanting to give her a quick rundown of MM, or at least let her know they've been around ten years or so.

What the fuck, when did it become cool to start skipping Detroit and/or Grand Rapids?

Well that is frustrating, blarg.
