A few weeks, Concerts First called up my friend and asked if our band could play a show in Manhattan.

I just want to know if anyone has heard of this company or worked with them and what I should expect.

I really don't have too much info. My friend and I have to go down this sunday to Manhattan for a meeting about the show.

If they want you to sell tickets or in any way put money forward, you know it's a scam.

Yeah, I hear you on that.

im playin their exposure fest in lawrence ks. from what im told its completly rigged, unorganized and a waste of time. apparantly the 3 judges are actually nonexistent and the winner is determined by ticket sales. they make you pre sell tickets. if you don't at least sell 30 you cant play. basically, its a money grab...but the way i see it is its just another show to play in front of a lot of people. the time slots are 20-40 min on 2 stages, and the bests slots go to who sells the most tickets. there are upwards of 50 bands playing. the grand prize is your choice of 20 hours of recording time free, or 1000 dollars. one problem...the studio that is offering the free hours to the winner is owned by the shows main promoter and is currently up for sale. i have a feeling that who ever wins will not even get to record.

anyways...take it for what it is...a show to play with tons of publicity...for instance the red chord is headlining the event im playing and their singer is the owner of Black Market Activities records. so either way rigged or not its good to at least just play.

I know this post is old as hell... but I just wanted to say:

What's unfair about a band that sells more tickets getting a better slot? Every show I've ever played in my 15 year career as a musician has determined what band plays where in the lineup based off of who will draw how many people.
