I implore all of you to tell me who your favorite monarch is from throughout history. Off the top of my head, I'd have to go with Henry VIII of the House of Tudor in England. What could be more fun than divorces, beheadings, a weakling son, and the best part, founding a fucking church with you as it's head?

I'd actually agree. Haha I love the Eddie Izzard thing about the Church of England and how the inquisition would have never worked with them:
"Cake or death?"
"Death! No! Cake!"
"Ah, you said death first!"
"I meant cake!"
"Oh alright, lucky you we're the Church of England!"

I think Henry VIII (of the House of Tudor if I'm going to try to namedrop for all of you) is the obvious choice. Although he might have to be unincluded solely based on the fact that the first 20 or so years of his kingship were fairly boring. Just a bunch of failed pregnancies and the birth of one measly daughter (obviously she didn't turn out to be so measly in the end).
I'll have to go with a fantastic tsar: either Ivan the Terrible (come on now, built St. Basil's, created serfs, killing his own son) or Nicholas II (Russian Revolution, his entire family killed and buried in the forest - except maybe Anastasia!!!111)
All in all, Henry VIII was a bad ass, but I'll try to be as contradictory as possible

Constantine was a pragmatic man. His adoption of a religion to appease people is basically still a huge strategy today.

Crassus wasn't a monarch (as a member of the triumvirate), but he sure was a badass. Who else crucified 6,000 slaves along the appian way and ordered them to never be taken down? Eat it, Spartacus.

He gets a bad rep sometimes as someone who was entirely non-religious just grasping onto this growing religion as a means of political advancement. He did do a lot of things very beneficial for the religions, among them the Council of Niceae. This may have been just another part of the grand scheme, but I think there was some geniuneness somewhere in him (like a lot of popes who have gotten bad names over the years)

well...he wasn't a monarch...but we all gotta have respect for genghis khan...largest empire in the history of the world...he was the man. Who else would kill family pets and let a few people live just to tell other towns of their demise if they didn't forfeit to him. A shame his successors weren't able to manage the huge size of the empire after his death...it's like a huge penis, it's just far too much to handle.

See I don't know why in the U.S. were are mainly taught European History when Japanese and Chinese History goes back Centuries more. I admit that I still don't know much about it but My fav. Monarch would have to be Emporer Hirohito, He fucking took over China during WWII, Japan would be so much more powerful if they weren't dumb enough to attack the U.S.

He was the Man, He actually came up with the idea of long distance communication by using drums to signal to his other armies.

the crimes Japan committed against the Chinese during WWII was way worse than what Hitler did...but you're right...Western society doesn't bother going in depth...all we knew was that the Rape of Nanjing was horrible...no details at all.

Oh I know they were worse, I don't know if they were worse than Stalin though. But you have to hand it to them, a country this small conquering well over a billion people is amazing. Although they did not get the entire country they definitely had a stranglehold over it.

It wasn't because of Hirohito, it was because of Prime Minister Tojo. The Emperor was basically a figurehead by then.

That is probably true I remember seeing "The Last Emporer" and it was about the last one to actually have control over the country. I think it was around WWI but I can't remember.

Stalin was a psychopath. At least Lenin had some decency. Wiping out your own race isn't very logical. At least when Hitler did it, it wasn't his own people.

ooook there...how about we just agree that killing people regardless of race or anything is wrong? There's no reason one man shoud kill another...especially in the multitudes those two did it.
ya he was absolutely insane...one of a kind really...but without him...the cold war woulda never happened...the US probably woulda became insanely powerful...I did this huge paper on him once...it was good times.

ya well, the guy did only help Stalin gain a good majority of his strength so...I guess he had a little kindness towards him...man...Stalin was one hardcore bitch...and to anyone who whines...his nickname was "uncle joe" here in the US at one time so...keep that in mind.

people so easily forget that the USSR was our ally in WWII and single handedly defeated the Germans on the Russian front...because of his strength during WWII he was "uncle joe" to us...that quickly ended.

He was hung upside down in a town center for three days and people came from far and wide to spit on his dead cold blue face.

I might be thinking of some one else, but I'm pretty sure (85%) that was Mousillini's death.
You're right. Although the people weren't even limited to just spitting in his face, they could pretty much do what they wanted to him.

greatest monarch is napoleon. if you can be 5'0 and singlehandedly obliterate every army in europe...you deserve a medal. if it wasnt for his disastrous march into russia and his generals making idiotic mistakes at waterloo he could have been emperor of all of europe.
