New Juliana Theory Studio Diary Update
Friday January 7, 2005 – Greensburg, Pennsylvania Is this the longest break ever between studio diaries while working on a record? I think it just may be. The reason for the silence was that I was sworn to secrecy about our recording. I’m not kidding. I wasn’t allowed to talk about it. Don’t ask why, because I can’t tell you. But I am not joking. So, I guess I am now permitted to talk about it again. Weird. We ’ve accomplished quite a lot since I last wrote and I am not about to get into it all now, but I will begin to explain in the next few entries. I can say this much; the music (as in the instrumentals) is recorded. Finished. Done. (Well, there might be a few tambourines and shakers and maybe a guitar noise here and there to lay down), but for the sake of saying it’s done, it’s done. Soooooooo, what now you say? The answer to that question is a two syllable word called Vo-cals. The weight of the world is on my shoulders. Or maybe it’s just the weight of the album. Either way, I ’m not a strong guy and my shoulders are getting a bit sore. I’ve taken to producing and engineering the vocals myself at the band’s home base in Greensburg, PA. Why? That’s a complicated question with a complicated answer. I’d say that it’s quite the challenge doing it this way and I’ll probably never want to hear the sound of my own voice ever again when this is all done. There are a lot of vocals to go. On to the bigger picture… Answers to the questions that might be asked: First, the record is not titled yet. Second, there is not a set date of when it will be finished yet. Third, it definitely does not have a release date right now. Oh yeah, I did not take a single photograph at the studio this time either. I took hundreds or more last time around and I thought I’d do almost every single thing differently this time around, so I took no pictures. I’ll post a couple pics here and there, but that’s all I can do. There are pictures I borrowed from other people like my buddy Jason Magnusson. Here are a few photos now… I missed you guys. Stay Tuned! Brett.

It's more fun if we pretend like we know everything when we don't.

does anyone else think that Juliana theory is a hit or miss kind of band? i mean, they have some pretty good songs like August in Bethany, things along that sort, but half of the songs on their album just seem like filler.
and isn't Brett a big asshole? yeah that's right, i played emogame.

Brett actually isnt an asshole at all. People assume that because of his stage antics and the fact that he he fairly quiet off stage. He is very focused. He is actually a very nice guy.

i hope this sounds more like "emotion is dead" than "love".
"if i told you this was killing me, would you stop?" is one of my favorite songs.

You're wrong. If you'd heard more of the new demos, you would kill yourself for saying that. The ones I've heard, for the most part, aren't making the album, and they're fucking incredible.

first off, I don't think i'd kill myself after hearing music. Second, if i did, it would definitely not be after hearing Juliana Theory. If I did, it would probably be a result of Elliot Smith, Beck, or The Decemberists. Maybe Jeff Buckley. Third, I am done.

I think its early to call best of the year already but I agree it will definitely be in my top 10 this year. Not nearly enough people know about this band...and I doubt this album will do anything to change that but as long as they keep putting out good shit like they have been its okay with me.

Shame no one believes me. I'll be laughing when everyone tells me how right I was.

Im on board. I just dont usually try predicting how good stuff is gonna be before I hear it. I still can't decide my top 20 list for favorite records of 2004. Im just indecisive like that. Although I know Northstar's "Pollyanna" would be #1.
I would really like to hear some of their new stuff(Juliana Theory)
Also, Detar's got fucking moves like no one's business. He should bring back Soul Train for white suburban people who can't dance to teach them how. I'd watch weekly.
I think he would need a hip female co-host as well...possibly with some junk in the trunk because that's what all the cool kids are into these days.

No one's allowed to hear the new stuff. They're really trying their best to keep it out of the public's paws (which is probably for the best). They weren't even allowed to talk about the recording process to just about anyone.
It's worth waiting for. Promise.
