View Full Version : If there's one thing I agree with Ron Paul the most

Its the economy. And I think people should at least listen to what he has to say.

He may be a little extreme on some issues, but I agree that more people need to hear what he is saying about the economy.

I agree with probably a fourth of what he says (regarding the war, consistency in voting against liberty-impeding measures, ending the drug war), but his social stances (support of automatic weapon ownership, pro-life, anti-gay marriage, pro-nuclear power with no mention of other alternative energies, etc. etc.) go against everything I believe in.

So why isn't Ron Paul in Congress hammering this shit home instead of talking on the squawk box?

So then that makes Ron Paul about as worthless as I already thought he was. Wake me again in 2 weeks when there is another RON PAUL rEVOLution thread, and I'll scoff at him then, too.

He is for free markets
Yeah, I was going to make that correction too.
Also, I think people should notice the difference in personal and political stances. Yes, he's personally pro-life and anti-gay marriage. But politically, he recognizes that government, especially the Federal government, has no right or role in such issues. Just sayin.

Ron Paul is an interesting character. As a Middle East studies student, I am surprised by and applaud his recognition of the U.S.'s bad policies in that area. I don't know enough about economies, taxes, or any kind of business stuff to make any judgments about his stances. I do, however, like how he brings a different picture to the table on almost any issue.

Then why is he saying what he is on CNN today? That's not a pro-free market stance ...

On the main issues I don't really see how he differs strongly from Obama. At least most of the issues.
So what's the point?

The Ron Paul movement is one of the greatest movements going on in this country right now. Not his presidential campaign, but the actual Campaign for Liberty is really bringing people together to care about politics again. You don't have to agree with everything him and his (intelligent) supporters stand for but you have to admire what they have done and are doing.

That statement is so full of dumb, I can't even start to refute it.
Also, Jason, do you have a link to the the CNN video you're referencing? Or at least a general synopsis. Because I'd be really surprised to see Paul advocate anything BUT a true free market system.

Jason, were you referring this Paul article on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/23/paul.bailout/index.html
Because that's about a textbook stance for a free market. Maybe you have a different idea of what free markets are supposed to be, in which case I'd like to know what you think of them.

Um, I think Ron Paul vastly differs from both candidates. He may agree with Obama on some issues, but he has a different procedure for arriving at a similar or same conclusion, which I like.

Elaborate.
Highlight the rest of that point (pro-nuclear power with no mention of other alternative energies), and it makes more sense. Nuclear is by no means our best viable alternative energy, and it generates a large amount of waste (not to mention the threat of meltdowns), but it seems like it's the only one that some politicians are pushing for. Wind, solar, and geothermal should also be further researched and utilized. In terms of costs and waste generated, we can do better.

The risks aside, I think nuclear energy would be a great starting point. I'm guessing we're talking nuclear when it comes to power, like the grid, rather than nuclear cars, lol. Yeah definitely think we should look into alternatives, but I think before we go revamping the energy portion, we need to fix/unfuck the distribution. The US Grid System is notoriously shitty.
I still say the benefits outweigh the negatives. Look at France, nearly 70% of its energy is nuclear and it sells tons of megawatts to other countries.

The gold standard is a terrible idea because there is less gold in the world (in terms of value) than circulating in New York alone. So I don't understand how he figures that would work.

ron paul is the best candidate, i think. he really is.
people keep saying he's "pro-life" or "anti-gay marriage", but a lot of interviews and other shit i've seen with him, he has been all for it. infact, i just watched a video where he was on this right wing radio show and they were asking him about his feelings regarding homosexuality and so on, and he said that it was FAR to complex to say that being gay was a sin...and as far as pro-life goes, he believes it should be regulated by state, which in a lot of ways, means by the people. look, i'm all for abortion rights, but if there are people out there, let's say, the entire state of georgia who want to end abortion in their state, so be it. pack up and go elsewhere. maybe then doctors who do perform abortions will live safer in say, ohio, where they choose to have abortion rights.
as far as taxes go, well, shit, if you look into it, there is NO LAW that says you have to pay taxes. so, really, the IRS is bullshit anyway. why not blow up the entire building?
and his policies on drugs are also fucking great.
the way i see it, ron paul may be a conservative and his opinions and thing may differ from mine, but at the end of the day, i feel that there is a def. agreement that the government needs to back the fuck out of everyone's lives so much. there needs to be less government.
and as a young queer kid, i repeat, fuck gay marriage. fuck heterosexual marriage. abolish marriage! you want to get on yr lover's medical insurance? get a civil union. because the sanctity of marriage is dead. and besides the right wing, christian, conservative....no one really cares if their married under the eyes of a fairy tale god.
but he's a politician, i guess. and they're all crooks and liars.
we're all doomed.

i'm sorry, you're a sixteen year old kid.
when you are old enough to start paying taxes, then you can tell me it's stupid.
until then...
shut the fuck up.
No law says you have to pay income taxes, but I believe it was snuck in during the civil war first, then reactivated at some later point in time.
Sales taxes, excise taxes, tariffs, etc. are all pretty much unavoidable though, and have been with us since the beginning.
