Ok, so for reading week (kinda like your spring break) me & some friends want to head down to Seattle (because it's the closest large American city to us).
I'm just wondering if there are any good shows or other cool things going on between Feb 19-23 in the area. We have to be back home on the 24th b/c my friend Laura is getting her wisdom teeth pulled, so it kinda cuts things short.
ps. I really don't know my American geography, so what else is close to the canadian border, west coastish that would be a good choice to go to?

http://www.trustkillshows.com/shows/search_shows.php?state=WA those are the shows that are going on..
things to see in seattle would say... space needle (of course), Pike Place Market (very fun to walk around) and experience music project museum. between seattle and canada there's not really anything else besides prob hiking and stuff like that.

yeah, I know about the hiking and stuff. We were thinking "oh, lets head down to Montana/Colorado for boarding!" but then we remembered that we could just travel an hour and have better mountains...

I'm sorry, but I went to the EMP and I thought it was kind of dumb. We were there for like 2 hours for senior grad night. I think an hour would've been enough, it got boring after a while.

If you want to go boarding check out Mt. Baker, it's about 45 minutes away from my house, probably an hour or so away from the border...

There's a lot of cool stuff to see and there's some fun stuff to do, but I don't think it's worth the money they ask for admission to it, plus, like I said, being there for 2 hours was way too long.

what is that thing exactly?? I've heard of it before, but I'm not sure what it is.

It's like a big music museum, but they also have stuff to do there. Like there's an area where you can go play instruments like guitar, keyboard, drums and stuff like that. They also have a stage and stuff in the EMP you can go see bands at (of course you have to buy a ticket to see the band). They have a thing that you can go and make your own music video and watch it. Um, what else? I don't remember...

When going to Seattle I would suggest checking out Pike Place, shopping downtown is always fun, Science Center and the Space Needle, Woodland Park Zoo....hmmm...oh, there's always the big troll under the bridge, but I don't remember the name of the freakin' bridge...arg.
Surrounding areas....hmmmm, taking a ferry out to the San Juans maybe, if you have the money...I've heard it's pretty out there, although I've never done it before. Mt. Baker would be a great place for snowboarding. I'm not sure what else...

Yeah, we'd probably only be there for 1 1/2 days or 2 at the max. So we want to find all the things that we can do and smoosh them into a condensed time but get the most out of the visits as well. Oh, and we definitely want to hit up the malls... hahaha.
It's crap that we aren't going to be able to make the Take Action tour stop on the 24th, my friend LOVES the Plain White T's.....

Hmm...malls. Bellevue has a pretty sweet mall. Downtown shopping is fun because they have Niketown and an Adidas store and tons of other stuff.
I'd say do the shopping thing and make sure to check out Pike Place. The Space Needle is fun, but you can always just drive by the stupid thing. It's not all the exciting, I've been to the top, nothing really special. But definately do the downtown shopping experience and Pike Place Market.

It's the Fremont troll, I have a couple pictures with it. My sister went to SPU and now lives in Renton and I used to go visit her for a weekend every year when I was in middle school/high school.
I've never actually been to the San Juans. My best friend's grandma lived on Orcas and I went and stayed there with him for a week. It's pretty awesome out there.

Dude, that troll is SWEET.
We're kind of strapped on cash as well, so anything that is relatively money-efficient is a plus. I'm checking out all the frommers/travel guide things, but they're kind of lame.
Are there any good local Seattle bands that might be playing during then?

Well, downtown shopping (as long as you don't buy anything) and Pike Place are both free. That troll is free to go see as well.
I'm not sure about local bands. When I lived back home I never really hit up the scene in Seattle much, which makes me mad now because I really don't have the opportunity to go see anyone where I live. :P
I'd check out that link that Kelsey posted a few posts back.

I know this is probably out of your price range (luckily when I went to Seattle my parents went too), but the second best steak in the world is at the Metropolitan Grill
seriously, if you feel like shelling out a week's pay for a hunk of meat, you must, it's well worth it

We have a Metropolitan Grill here in Calgary too... but it's probably not the same thing. They do, however, serve some amazing steak.
I love food.

You better watch what you say Missy. Colorado has the greatest mountains in the world, get off the drugs because you are DELUSIONAL!!!
Totally check out the U District A.K.A. University District! They've got some good shops down there. :) I love it down there. Eat at the Crab Pot. Oh my gosh, I love that place. You can buy this bucket full of seafood and get it dumped in the middle of your table and you eat with a mallet (to eat the crab) and you fingers. It's so much fun (as lame as it might sound)! It's right on the pier, so it's really pretty at night. Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is a little place along the pier, not far from the Crab Pot, that has some odd and cool shit in it.
Also, for more information on shows, just check pollstar.com.
Oh, and pick up an issue of The Stranger. It's a newspaper-like publication that's pretty entertaining to read.

You must board the canadian rockies sometime in your life.
My friend lives right in the Coast mountains in BC and his granddad used to own this little mountainish thing about 10 minutes from his house, it's cool.

how have I not gotten wrangled into this thread yet? I live in Seattle :-D EMP is kinda stupid and overrated, pike place is so-so, once you've seen the sights there (15 min worth) it's kinda pointless. Space needle is really cool but it's hella expensive....hmm.

The only cool thing about the EMP is that it's the ugliest building I have ever seen in my entire life. :)
