Subtitles

What does everyone think about subtitles when they're watching a dvd? I'm talking about English subtitles for english-language movies.

Do you love them and always watch movies with them on, hate them and think they ruin the movie, or neither?

I can't watch a foreign language movie without subtitles, but I always am worried that the translation won't be perfect since it often isn't
like not big things but an idiom translated verbatim instead of putting it in terms that make sense

for instance, i think it's incredibly important when watching a movie like babel. because all they do is fucking mumble in that movie.

For English language movies, it distracts me. I find myself readin the dialogue instead of lookin at the scenery. When I lived with my step-brother though(he's deaf) we always had them on and I would even turn them on when I was by myself.

I've only ever used subtitles for foreign movies. They don't bother me at all. I know way too many people who won't watch a foreign movie because they "can't do subtitles". It's sad.

Subtitles are good. If I'm sitting down at home and doing nothing but watching a movie I'll probably use subtitles so I won't miss anything. I don't mind them in foreign movies at all.

That is weird. I only use them with foriegn films.

And the only foreign films I watch are horror so I don't really pay much attention to words anyway.

I use subtitles probably about 60% of the time, mostly because I watch movies at night in my room when everyone else in my house is asleep.

I use subtitles on all dvds i watch, if i'm alone. If I'm with people, they call me a *** and tell me to turn them off.
