This Just a review of some local New Orleans bands....

I've decided to start by telling you about a show I went to this last Saturday,
September 20th, the show was at the High Ground. The line-up was: Shoot
the Daily Edit, After School Specials, Taj Motel Trio, and Angry Banana. The
crowd was packed by the end of the night when Angry Banana went on,
there was approximately 200 people their. Shoot the daily edit started the
show. Now I’ve never seen this band, prior to this show but I hope I never
have to again. There were about 30 people watching the band. I stood there
in the back amazed people were able to dance to there non-rhythmic songs. I
couldn't understand the singer and the band was just plain awful. I guess I
should lay off a little they looked like a new band. I just haven't heard a high
school band sound this bad in a while. Which speaking of high school bands
we had The After School Specials second. They followed Shoot The Daily
Edit and it was honestly not the easiest thing to tell apart. I will say this
about this band they had some good song ideas. I could tell that there was
something brewing in there little heads. This is a band I'm interested to see in
a year when they have been around for a bit. They still have some severe
problems but they definitely took a 9mm to Shoot The Daily Edit. There was
about 60 people watching The After School Specials. Then up came a band
name Taj Motel Trio. I was new to this band as well, but I fell like I've missed
a big part of my life because of that. This band was AMAZING. If you have
never heard them I suggest giving them a listen. I did a Google search on
these guys and I came to find out this band has been around for a while.
They played with Bon Jovi! Ok that’s just weird but if you heard them I
wouldn't toss that opportunity out the window. This was a really good band
and very entertaining. Tthe entire crowd was watching these guys I say
about 20 kids outside so my guess is somewhere around 180 people. Taj
Motel Trio set-up the show and Angry Banana knocked it out of the park.
Now I have one thing to say about Angry Banana at this show on Saturday.
This was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. I have never
seen a band put that much soul into a show before. They started by putting
on there common stage antics but then it got intense. I have not seen this
band that much, but I don't plan on missing another show, I got a message
out of there show which I would say is rare in bands. I feel as though Angry
Banana sent a message out saying: we love this city and were not stupid for
coming back here after a Hurricane. The show had every person watching
them. With the room packed full about 200 people and everyone swaying
back and fourth by the end of the set. You could hear "we can't go back"
three streets down on a song they claimed they had not played in a while. It
was an absolutely amazing performance.
I would love to come to your shows and do reviews on them. I am going to
try and stay unbiased towards bands so don't expexct to meet me after the
show. I don't really use myspace but please e-mail me at
kylethejournalist@gmail.com with any flyer you want me to come to.
If you have any comment or suggestions on what i wrote or even if you just
agree i would love to hear about it. send me an e-mail.
Thank you so much for reading,
-Kyle
