According to Pete's journal on Fall Out Boy (http://www.falloutboyrock.com)'s website one of the new songs will be called "My Name Is David Ruffin and These Are The Temptations." He also said "you either get it or you don't."

I'm not sure what the business about Saves The Day is, but Fall Out Boy's new record is going to be amazing. Think about how far they've come since Evening Out... now imagine that with major label backing and an ever growing fanbase. I don't see how anyone can doubt this albums success.

Someone send FOB the memo. Trying to write clever song titles is dumb. Bad poetry books written by your bass player are dumb. Having hardcore kids punch the floor in your POP-PUNK video is so fucking dumb. Spinning around in circles with your guitar is dumb. I know all you fourteen year olds are going to reply "dude, you're dumb", but I don't give a shit. I really wanna like these guys, they have some catchy songs, but the presentation kills it for me. Sorry, just had to vent. Let the bashing begin...

for anyone who doesn't get it...david ruffin joined the temptations and was awesome, the band was doing great and life was good. over time david began to stand out and was soon recognized as the lead singer and does lead on a lot of the songs you know them for. the band hadn't really had a true lead before, but it didn't really hurt the chemistry and things were still good until david went on one of the greatest ego/drug trips of the 21st century and eventually started treating the temptations as his backup singers. he got booted, spiraled downhill and died at like 50 and the temptations never really made any more hits. later this became a kick ass vh1 movie and that is how i know any of this. `

First of all, maybe someone would respect your opinion if you had done enough research to put down Pete correctly- he did not write a poetry book. He wrote a story. Obviously you haven't read the story, so where do you get off? Maybe you are referring to some other poetry book written by Pete..if so I'd like to know the title because as far as I know you pulled it out of your ass. You're just ignorant because you don't understand the meaning behind Fall Out Boy's song titles, nor do you even try to.
So take your failing attempt at a pseudo-intellectual attitude and shove it up your arrogant ass.

Spinning is fun; I've done it with my guitar...kinda silly but fun to do. They can have Burt Reynolds punching a garage door in their videos for all I care. Hardcore kids are stupid so seeing them in a video for a good band is refreshing. And if you didn't know, they used to BE a hardcore band, so those probably are really friends and fans enjoying themselves. Clever song titles never hurt anyone. Sometimes they're funny, and they give ya something interesting to try to figure out. And anyone who thinks about life has contemplated trying to write something of their own. If he's got people who will buy it and maybe enjoy it, then why not let him get out what he wants to say?

i really love FOBs music, i mean they just write great songs. but i agree with you 100%. FOBs shows are some of the worst.

why is it that every post on this website about pretty much any band ultimately descends into a ridiculous argument about how long the band's song titles are or how many times the guitarist spins his guitar, and how that somehow affects the band's music? i'm not a fan of fall out boy, but i can respect their ability to write a decent, catchy pop song, and i can definitely respect anyone who presents their opinion of either liking or disliking their music, but not if their explanation is anything along the lines of "their bass player wrote a book i didn't like." what a waste of time; when did so many irrelevant things become so important in a band's musical integrity?
strummer85
01/13/05, 12:42 PM
I didn't mean that the band Fall Out Boy as it is under the current name name was ever a hardcore band. I'm not sure if it was these four together, but at least 2 or 3 of them were in hardcore bands before getting together creating Fall Out Boy. So they have hardcore backgrounds. Once again leading me to believe that the hardcore kids punching the floor might be friends and fans from way back, not just random idiots they dragged in off the streets for the hell of it. I don't know for sure, but it's possible.
I agree with Jamaica next. My point with "Spinning is fun" and all that other nonsense is that it's totally irrelevant. They're one of the best pop-punk bands to come around in a long time and have taken a genre that was quickly dying with Good Charlotte and Simple Plan and made it not suck again. They're catchy as hell and just fun to listen to, so what's the issue with a spinning guitar player or an aspiring writer in the group? The guy can spin until he vomits for all I care.
Phil Garner? Rather than make fun of it, I'm honestly just curious how you came up with the idea of using that as a name.

I have always like falloutboy, however, I've only seen them in concert twice. Once before they were on fueled by ramen like 3 or 4 years ago, and they just wrote terrible songs back then, so I don't really judge them from that show b/c they've improved 100 fold since then. The last show I saw them on was the TBS, Matchbook, FallOutBoy extravaganza...and I will never see another show again. Pete talks so much throughout the set it's annoying. My friend who saw them at the metro 3 weeks ago said he was just talking in between songs so much that Patrick looked visibly annoyed (staring, arms crossed, etc) You're in a rock band, so go to the show, rock the hell out, and get off the stage. Don't gimme a lecture in between songs about voting, or proper pit courtesy (which i think is ironic in itself but that's a different point). And about the twirling guitarists....I think that's cool as hell. However, after the first 15 minutes of twirling, spinning, whatever other names for circular jumping you can think of, it starts to get a little boring and the coolness effect wears off, leaving one if the feeling, yeah you're jumping, cool, I get it....so yeah, maybe if it wasn't 45 minutes of twirling I could take it. And I know this is long but one final note...I've seen about 20-30 shows at the metro, everytime falloutboy was not on tour, Pete somehow gets on stage and screams, it's like the plague. They've never been on the bill. He's just in the neighborhood, sees that his friends band is playing and starts screaming....grrrrr....

Talking Fall Out Boy:
I like them but they're not my favorite band (Take into consideration i have not seen them live) but it's fun to listen to them. I like clever name titles, for me it's the band trying to give you a little more and not just copping out and calling it the word repeating 12 times.

Pete writes what most 16 year old guys wish they could.
I dont know if that's a good thing or not, you decide.
And he was in Arma Angelus before Fallout Boy, and for those of you who aren't familiar with the Chicago Scene that was an ultra hardcore band. I agree with the Pete showing up once a week at the Metro, but its usually for some opening act that isnt as big, he drives the girls crazy most of the time and gives the band cred. It does get annoyig.

WAIT WAIT... im gonna settle this drama...
fuck the song titles
fuck petes image
fuck how they act on stage
fuck the book
fuck everything except the music
none of the above matters, listen to the music. music is noyt about image... people need to start realizing that

Hitting myself in the head with a tack hammer for reading all of this bullshit. Please don't give me scene points (ever).
I'm surprised no one has given you scene points yet.

Fall Out Boy is great.
I loved seeing them live with TBS and Matchbook...I met Pete before the show and he signed my "Take This To Your Grave" CD box. It was awesome...hardly nobody realized who he was though, which is a shame. He thanked me for buying their CDs and said something about being strong or something, about me being strong or something...I'm not sure what he said...it seemed nice though. Heh. He didn't come across as egotistical or anything to me at all.
However he did show up on stage during Matchbook's set and, yep, you guessed it, screamed a couple lines of song. I enjoyed it though, he comes off as very charasmatic. Not as charasmatic as Adam Lazarra was that night (he was off the charts!) but he was very charasmatic and energetic.
And yes...I love their song titles too, but that's just me. If you like FOB, cool, if you don't, cool...but if you don't, it'd be nice if you didn't have to go to every single FOB thread just to state you don't like them. We know already. Go post in the threads for bands you DO like so the FOB fans can discuss the band peacefully.

Yes these 5 pages have accomplished much. We have proved inconclusively that the AP community is drastically undersexed. I think the song title is a little stupid and trying to hard, but I'm not gonna write four pages of burning effigy about it.

since people say they have matured for this album, does that finally mean the singer has finally reached puberty?
or his testicles have at least dropped?

Someone send FOB the memo. Trying to write clever song titles is dumb. Bad poetry books written by your bass player are dumb. Having hardcore kids punch the floor in your POP-PUNK video is so fucking dumb. Spinning around in circles with your guitar is dumb. I know all you fourteen year olds are going to reply "dude, you're dumb", but I don't give a shit. I really wanna like these guys, they have some catchy songs, but the presentation kills it for me. Sorry, just had to vent. Let the bashing begin...
your a fucking moron. im not 14. they are hardcore kids. have you ever heard of arma angelus? shut the fuck up tool

Arma Angelus were huge in Belgium wrern't they? Fuck off you suburban brat. If they're "hardcore kids" they should play fucking hardcore. Not pop-punk with gang vocals thrown in for hardcore cred. Go back to the mall.
