MTV wrote an article (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1495859/20050113/my_chemical_romance.jhtml?headlines =true) on last night's Tsunami Relief show at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. Check it out.

Last night the PA said that between the shows around $150,000 will have been raised. Oh yeah Coheeds new stuff sounds great, besides the hard song if i could describe it in one word, bouncy.

I really hope people weren't stupid enough to buy tickets off ebay. That money goes right to people's pockets. The point of the show was to raise money for the tsunami. Fuck the ebay people.

Currently holed up in a Woodstock studio, writing material for the follow-up to 2003's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Coheed used their slot as a glorified trial run, opening with three new tunes (one of which was a powerful, epic and bottom-heavy guitar assault). The crowd, hoping to hear songs it knew, was less than enthused, and the audience's tepid response drew a curse-filled tirade from bassist Mike Todd.
Funny how fans will download a bands new material a month before it hits stores and listen to it nonstop, yet unwilling to listen to it performed by the band and just stand there wide eyed in confusion to what they are listening to. Give these bands a break... it's the first time they are performing them and they want positive feedback. If you wanted them to only play their older songs, they might as well not record anymore and just play the same 20 songs over and over.

man, that article makes me so jealous. i wish i actually got tickets. fuck ebay. it would've been awesome if the kids who jacked the prices gave that money to the cause... i really doubt anyone did, though. bah.

"President Bush is a billionaire, and do you know how much money he donated to tsunami victims?" he asked, mic cocked high. "That compassionate conservative gave $10,000. We're gonna give more money here that that p---- did!"
umm last i heard, president earns about 100K, and pays taxes like any normal american. buddy sure is an idiot.

He was quite rich before he became president....and as far as I know, he didn't suddenly lose that cash when he acquired his new position. Realize what you're saying before insulting others.

i know, but buddy called him a pussy for giving 10 thousand dollars. i mean, come on.
He's not a billionaire, he's a multi-millionaire. And also, it's not like he has stacks of money lying around in a bank. It's through stocks, properties, and other things. It's what his worth is, not how much cash is in his bank account. Sure, maybe he could give more than $10,000, but that's still $10,000 than almost anyone here gave. And I would hope a concert with three hugely popular bands could raise more than $10,000. I don't know how large the venue is, or how much tickets were, but I'm assuming that not even including merch would be well over $10,000. None of this should matter though. Everybody is doing it for a good cause, so nobody should be crucified because they gave something. That's better than nothing.

He's just pointing out the fact that a bunch of kids and some musicians who don't nearly have the wealth that Bush does managed to come together for a great cause and raise far more than this wealthy leader did. It wasn't an insult to Bush's gesture (he did insult Bush himself...but thats not too far from the norm), more a testament to how great it was for all these people to raise a ton of cash.

Kinda strange how this MTV article also seemed opinionated against Coheed...but I couldn't give a shit what MTV says...kinda like saying my neighboorhood crack dealer is a reliable source for good hygiene tips.
I could have given anything to be at that show, though. I think the new Coheed songs are incredible.

you and i, finally bringing logical reasoning to mtv
actually, the president earns $400,000 per year.
what would have been ridiculous is if he would have had america donate the original $15 million figure that was come up with. bumped it up a bit to $350 million if i'm not mistaken.
i could see buddy's point i guess, the man and his family are multi-millionaires...but $10,000 is still a lot more than i donated.
my vote for most badass donation goes to michael schumacher---the formula one racecar driver...donated $10 million himself.

MTV seemed *very* biased against Coheed. They failed to even mention the fact that Coheed played 3 songs from IKSSE3 and ripped through them. It was an INCREDIBLE performance, and I don't think a single person in the crowd thought any different. My friend, who has seen Coheed 3 times prior, thought this was their best performance she had seen.
And the crowd certainly wasn't as apathetic as MTV made them seem regarding the new material. Dumbass MTV.
I started the CO-HEED chant last night, btw. woo!

Agreed. Why do some people have to make everything political and partisan? This was a concert to raise money for people who have died in a horrific tragedy. What place did political opinions have at this concert, or any concert for that matter. Let's just raise some money for these people and try to remember that we are all human beings. I'm so sick of the constant Bush bashing. Thanks for your insightful commentart Buddy. (By the way, it's hard to take anyone with the first name "Buddy" seriously)

I respect what they are doing. I think it's great but holy shit that would've been an annoying show.
I can honestly say that I would not have gone to that. I'll just donate money to another relief program.
and with that whole buddy thing.
what the fuck does Buddy know anyways? What's he trying to prove with political statements?
Both him and the trucker hat, studded belt wearing fans of his annoy the shit out of me.
so does Mtv who seems to love what Buddy and his "homicidecore" band are doing.
oh and Gerard needs to stop making annoying gun-to-head gestures with his hands.
I like adam lazzara, i think he's funny even though his music sucks.
But at least they raised a hell of a lot more money then I ever could so I give them props and appreciate everything theyve done.

two things:
1) that article was retarded in regards to coheed. coheed were psyched about the new songs, and didn't get pissed off. they rocked the show and that writer is blatantly biased!
2) buddy of senses fail needs to shut up! he is such a poser, my friend's brother went to school with some of the guys in senses fail, a private school. they are spoiled jersey brats whose familes could have each donated $10,000 like the president, but instead they play a show, so that we donate (which I don't mind at all). much more hypocritical than bush.

Sometimes people should just keep their mouths shut on certain issues, whether they be right or wrong anyway. Buddy decided to cause unnecessary drama concerning something that, any way you look at it, IS A GOOD THING.
