haha. Yeah I know....my friends think I'm a teenage girl trapped in a 25 year old man's body when it comes to musical taste sometimes.
Do you think any of these bands are good pop punk: All Time Low, Hit the Lights, Forever the Sickest Kids..................cuz I think they are pretty similar lyrically and stylistically to We the Kings and I would consider them good pop punk (especially ATL and HTL).

A swing and a miss on pretty much all three. These bands are basically the epitome of fashion-over-function pop/rock. While I'm not a punk rock elitist in any sense (hey, I grew up listening to Green Day and The Offpsring) there is nothing even rometely punk, alternative or counter-culture about any of these bands (one even supports the Republican potential). Hit The Lights totally gave in to the pro-tooled, glossed up, auto-tuned sound on their latest release. I don't blame them though, as it's blatantly clear that the new singer just can't sing (as witnessed at their Bamboozle set).
ATL, while their hearts may be in the right place, the whole irony and "ain't-we-clever" bit in their videos just makes them look obnoxious. Plus, they're a sloppy live act and it's hard to like a band with that many D-bags in it.
FTSK are perhaps the worst of the bunch. Total gimmick/nostalgia-sound with barely a genuine note in their songs. Maybe I'm just jaded, after all, this wouldn't be the first time that grown men have written completely unapologetic juvenile songs (see everything Blink-182 did before the self-titled).
In terms of what I consider "good" pop-punk, I'd have to go with Green Day, Unwritten Law, Lucky Boys Confusion, Goldfinger, Autopilot Off, Fall Out Boy (who are much better than any music snob ever gives them credit for), The Offspring, etc.
But, who knows, maybe I'm just a jaded/cranky old man who's out of touch with what "the kids" are fussing about today.

I appreciate your ability to have an actual conversation about this topic rather than just telling me the bands suck haha
I guess bands like ATL and HTL are my guilty pleasures (and I actually thought ATL was pretty solid live). But I agree Fall Out Boy is VERY good pop punk...although their live show (although energetic) doesn't seem to be THAT strong...but maybe they arent trying to sound like their albums live!
But yeah, I guess WTK and FTSK are just guilty pleasures of mine...yes I know they are generic but if their sound catches my ear I generally like it.
What is your take on the Mile After? They seem pretty similar to the bands Ive mentioned before....just curious though...

Thanks, and I appreciate you taking my criticism in a constructive manner. I like FOB because I think Pete is a good lyricist and speaks to issues/thoughts/feeling that live outside the high school drama/my girlfriend left me type deal. Time will tell if they can grow old gracefully.
As for Mile After....it pretty much sounded exactly like I thought it would. It's funny, my friend and I had a conversation about this recently and we both agreed that we had no intention to follow the next generation of Fall Out Boy's and Panic At The Disco's around. Those bands were kind of the last ones we caught on to and, we're basically happy to hear their new music, but have no interest in hearing the imitators. Not that Mile After is exactly like them but they're just another version of the pop/emo/sorta-punk-tinged-whatever music that has been spinning on MySpace profiles for the last 7-8 years (wow, I can't believe it's been that long).

Well I'm pretty sure they'll play at least 4 out of the 6 songs the did on Why So Serious, let's just hope they play Hurricane Streets too. I'm not so sure if they would play 6 Months because they'll probably play only one slow song which is going to be Candles. And Should've Tried Harder is up in the air.

wow I expected them to do more songs from Fast Times but thats kinda good that they're still sticking to what got them there in the first place. doing an even number of songs from each record is a good idea. I hope they sing automatic eyes when I see them!

Alrighty, friends. I just got back from the St. Petersburg show at Jannus Landing, and it went completely different from the rest.
To start, it was a miserable day in St. Pete, raining the entire day. The crowd was outside in the rain waiting to enter for a few hours and once they did at 7, everyone was kind of restless. The show is supposed to start at 8, which came and went, as it took until 8:30 for the first band to take the stage. A local band, The Prospect, was supposed to open, along with Hey Monday and Carolina Liar. All three were cancelled because tech guys were getting shocked onstage trying to set up due to all the water. (Jannus is outside, by the way, on a covered stage).
We the Kings was set up and came on stage about half past 8, and played a couple songs before they were told to buy time to work out the bugs onstage with the water. Before they made it to the next song, they were told they couldn't go on because it was a safety hazard, and apparently a fire started on the side of the stage.
Travis didn't miss a beat and apologized to the audience, then told them they would go on and do an acoustic set. The band tossed picks and drumsticks into the crowd while Travis and Hunter walked along the barrier, greeting fans as they set up for an acoustic set.
They played their set and then The Academy Is... came out and did theirs, with just Chislett on acoustic, and William singing.
My memory is a little hazy, but I believe these are close to correct, albeit maybe not in the right order.

I hope I covered all the songs. The guys all seemed to be in good spirits despite the show having its share of difficulties. Having seen them at the Orlando show just a few days ago, it was a completely different experience, and it was pretty nice they didn't just say, "Screw it, we're just going to cancel it".
I really feel for We the Kings, however. Being from Bradenton, just a few minutes away from St. Pete, this was really their home show, and the crowd showed that. I'm not sure I've seen a more energetic crowd at Jannus than during their set, and it had to come to an end much too soon. But hey, it'll stick out in my mind, because how often do you get to see something different like that?

Oh yeah, and Hey Monday did a bit of an acoustic show by their van after the actual show, which was pretty cool. Their lead singer looked pretty bummed when her band got pulled, but she looked pretty happy during TAI's set, and came out to do guest vocals on one of the songs, which may have been Down and Out.

TAI needs to play Automatic Eyes and/or Mayonaise!
Just got back from the Seattle show and even after seeing the Academy Is... for the 11th time they still impress me each time! Tonight's set was a bit different from recent ones posted and we had a couple of surprises at tonight's show.
TAI played the following songs (I didnt keep track of the order because I didnt think I was actually going to stay for their entire set but I did):
Slow Down
The Phrase That Pays
Classifieds
Checkmarks
Almost Here (last song of the night)
Neighbors
We've Got a Big Mess On Our Hands
Everything We Had
Forever Young (first song of the set)
His Girl Friday
Rumored Nights

Automatic Eyes (Acoustic)
After The Last Midtown Show
About A Girl
Everything We Had
The encore for the set was:
Automatic Eyes (acoustic)
Snakes on a Plane WITH COBRA STARSHIP (they had a night off so they made an appearance)
Almost Here
We The Kings was fairly solid and played pretty much every song on their album.
I thought Carolina Liar was decent for not knowing their stuff and Hey Monday was a solid enough opener.
It was a good show overall:)

i brought mines on ticketmaster. was that a mistake?
chcougar1
10/27/08, 02:47 PM
well I'm seeing them in nyc, Roseland ballroom. i paid $45. i think the venue effected the price. well I think it's obvious. where'd you see them at? was it a small venue?
ah you live/go to shows in NYC...I think EVERYTHING is more expensive there.
The venue here also uses ticketmaster to allocate their tickets, but it was still only $25 after charges. the venue holds about 1200-1500 people. But yeah I'm assuming NYC costs more for shows...thats quite a bit of a difference though

you said you bought your ticket for a large amount of money to see them. Where are you seeing them and how much were tickets? I just saw this tour and it was $25
Its crazy hearing about $25 concerts besides Warped Tour. All of my concerts are $10 and under and Ive seen some big bands. Armor For Sleep and Saosin $10. Emery and Mayday Parade $10. There are more, but those bands are the biggest ones Ive seen at my favorite venue that I go to.

One time there were these girls wearing Hollister and Quicksilver shirts at a show I went to. The audience was very rude and roudy to begin with. They were shoved out of the way very quickly

Hahaha nooooo. I live almost exactely 100 miles away from the venue I go to. Im just lucky to have a parent willing to take me to a show. Im not a teeny bopper (it may seem like Im coming off as one) that just stands around and screams. Ive held my own and Ive been pushed to the side.
I guess concerts are my one and only hobby.

Yeah...$15 is generally the cheapest tickets can get here in Seattle (for a nation touring band anyway, local shows are still $5-10 sometimes).
But I do miss the days of $8 shows .....ugh I still can remember paying $8 in September 2005 for Panic! at the Disco, Augustana, Cartel, TREOS, and Acceptance (in that order too)..my how times have changed :( lol

so i finally went to my show. i liked it, had a lot of fun TAI was amazing, it was my first time being intro'd to the openers and i liked them too. my only complaint was all the little girls there. i mean, i understand, but still, it felt like a jonas brothers concert with better music.
best song i think was 'we've got a big mess on our hands,' the band really got the crowd into it, throwing up fists and horns during the chorus. good stuff. i'd definitely see them again
great concert, i just wish i knew the opening acts before going, but i liked their music an i will check them out

I got there right as TAI went on. The room was about half full at that point. Also, I saw two fights break out (both between a guy and a girl wierdly) and some other girl got knocked down and I think twisted her ankle/broke her foot. Anyone else see this?
i was in the back and i still had a good time.
