Great band.
So many good albums. Proves how great they are by the fact they are able to make great whole albums not just good albums with some good songs.
Stand out albums:
Ten
Vs
Vitalogy
Yield
Good collection of B-sides
And for all those who said the Self Titled was shit...........it wasn't.

Yes, yes, yes.
I agree with everything you said, and would like to add the hundreds of official bootlegs and unpredictable 3h setlists. Too many good stuff for a fan!

Have you heard Jeff Ament's solo album, btw? I've been a bit lazy to get it.

The same, I've been abit lazy with it too.
I've heard Eddie Vedder's and I really enjoyed it.

love Pearl Jam. Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy are excellent. don't really love their output after that, but their 2006 S/T was a fantastic return to form

Considering the fact that it's a cover, you really don't know anything by PJ, haha.
I got Jeff's album yesterday, but didn't listen to it yet.

Their new CD "self titled," is really good, in fact it's great. I wasn;t crazt about riot act and bi-naral but they seemed to have picked up the pace with this new one. It rocks!

I've loved Pearl Jam forever! I saw them for the first time in 2003 at Madison Square Garden and they just so happened to make a dvd out of the show haha.
I really liked the new cd, I thought it was leaps & bounds better than "Binaural" & "Riot Act", but their best albums are still "VS", "Vitalogy", & "Yield".
Don't they have a new album coming out soon?

As far as I'm concerned, this band has always had alot of potential but never really lived up to the name they've made for themselves. Change is good in a band, and I think maybe I just wanna hear more change from Pearl Jam.
New song is good. Not great, but good. excited for new album.

Same. I heard another song off of Backspacer (new album) Speed of Sound and it's beautiful. Sorta has eddies solo vibe in it, so I have high hopes for this album.
Oh, and according to Stone their coming to cleveland in 2010 :bounce: My first live experience

Oh and another thing, one of the new songs Amongst the Waves is a ringtone on verizon you can preview. I know it's rediculous to judge a song from ten seconds....but wow. Huge hook, and Ed's voice soars it's almost...ten-esque, dare I say?

I've honestly only heard Ten and their greatest hits, but they strike me overall as a band that can write some very solid tunes but can't really hold on to my attention for a full album.
It's sad how the only fans on this site are me and this girl haha

I like 'em just fine, probably a lot more than most people on this site. I'd say people who dismiss them as just another shitty grunge band are missing out. But I also think they get more praise then they deserve.
I think Craig likes them too, but Craig likes everything. I'll agree they're overhyped everywhere but here.

Yellow Ledbetter is a fucking jam. They have some great b-sides. Down, too. That should have been a single, not an outtake.

Yes they do. Those christmas singles they do are great. some blog had 'em all in one huge zip file. Some great live versions on there.

I imagine they'd be amazing live. I certainly hope so at least, given that they have like 500 live albums.
they're supposed to be good, I'm not paying over $100 to see them, though I'm a fan, but come on. Dylan, Springsteen and McCartney charge that. You're Pearl Jam.
TheOtherAndrew
08/11/09, 12:34 AM
Ewwww. I can't think of any band I would pay more than 100 dollars to see. Plus weren't Pearl Jam in some huge battle with Ticketmaster over prices?
I think I remember something like that. they get into way too much legal shit.

Actually, Pearl Jam has my favorite line from any song.

I've got two spare tickets to Manchester..is there anybody who would like to buy them?
I've never paid 100 to see pearl jam live, I've seen them twice and both times have been amazing. Without a doubt the best concert I've been too, if I had to pay 100 for those concerts that I did see... I probably would have.

The new song (''The Fixer'') makes me feel good. Not sure how I feel about ''Speed of Sound'', I think it is a little dull. Looking forward to the album though.

Random situation in which Pearl Jam has saved me from busy work:
In Driver's Ed, my teacher asked was trying desperately to prove a point about how nobody really pays attention on the road.
So he asks what would seem to be an easy question, "What color is a yield sign?"
Every student completely agrees that a yield sign is yellow but me. Its a trick question -- there's no such thing as a yellow yield sign. Luckily, I listen to Pearl Jam and pay attention to their album covers.
Everyone had to do a packet over road signs except me. Thanks Pearl Jam!! *thumbs up*

Your Driver's Ed class must be retarded.

I wouldn't say they're retarded. Try it.
Ask someone who hasn't listened to Yield what color a yield sign is: yellow, blue, red, or orange.
When they're given several choices, yellow kinda seems like the first one to choose because warning signs are always yellow.

The new album is really growing on me. The band, Eddie especially makes no secret of being a huge fan of the Finn Brothers & citing their first band, Split Enz, as a huge influence on his music. This new album is easily their most obviously Enz influenced. When I first heard the new single, I honestly thought Eddie had released a solo single with the two Finn boys. Huge influence, huge resemblance, awesome results!
This thread really deserves a bump. Pearl Jam is really one of the greatest bands of our generation. Some kids might write them off as "old", but their longevity and fan-friendly attitude is such a rarity for a band of their status. They really have the true ethics of a punk band.
They've never made a bad album, and I will argue anyone who says they're not one of the best, if not the best live act in music.

I'm a fan. I've actually just been getting into their catalog these past few months, so I'm not overly familiar with their stuff, but I was surprised at how much I enjoy most of it. They're really the only "grunge" associated band I've heard and liked.

It is a bit weird, since they descend from music that has a lot of followers in these parts. I think them being branded "grunge" has a lot to do with that. It definitely carries connotations.

Love this band. Ten was always my favorite with Vs. a close second but they've had a great career even if it's been all over the map. Their live show is one of the best I've ever seen and was my first concert ever. 'Black' is still my favorite song ever. The jam live is pretty much as good as it gets.

The 90's is the best decade, so much good stuff, I wish I could have been my age now in 1990. Don't get why nobody seems to care about this stuff here. Pearl Jam are too popular for Pitchfork to fuck in the ass, so they don't get a lot of praise I guess, so people don't lose their cool points on here. It's not cool to like great songs you can sing along to unless it's ironic or nostalgic.

I don't know if that's it. I guess I'd just like to believe people aren't that shallow. To me, I'm hoping it's more of a matter of most people on here aren't old enough to have lived through it. Pearl Jam and the 90's are looked on disdainly like Led Zeppelin and a lot of those popular acts were back then the decade after. Everything goes in cycles and soon Pearl Jam and the Seattle scene will be popular to like again. For those of us who've liked them from the beginning we may as well enjoy it on our own for now.

Very happy to hear someone say that. It's one of my favorites of all time, and I think that may be the most underrated song in their whole catalog. I can (and have) listened to "Down" on repeat nonstop at times.
Love this live performance too. Hope this may help gain a few fans on this site:

It's a testament to how good of a band they are that that song is an outtake. Not to mention "Sad," "Yellow Ledbetter," "Fatal," etc.

After picking up the legacy editions of Vs/Vitalogy, I've come around to the fact that the latter is undoubtably their masterpiece. I can't think of a record other than maybe On The Beach that better addresses the consequences of fame and how the culture industry perverts art. Even the seemingly negligible stuff ("Pry, To", "Bugs", "Aye Davanita", "Stupid Mop") plays an essential role in shaping the album. It's perfectly sequenced and an undeniable improvement over the comparatively immature (though still very good) Ten and Vs. Truly a work of art that deserves much more attention than it receives, at least from non-fans.
