I recently picked up Andorra (yesterday) and am absolutely loving it. Any other fans of this sweet electronica music? Discuss it in here.

Yes, yes, yes!
My student org brought him and his live band to UNH last year with Fuck Buttons, and it was absolutely magical.
I haven't gotten fully into Andorra yet, but I absolutely dig The Milk of Human Kindness.

Yep, very good band.
If your into this type of music, I would recommend Mice Parade. No one ever mentions them around here, and they are a great band.

fuck yes some awesome posters into this guy's sound! im not alone in digging him haha. just heard andorra and he plays with textures so well, its so hard to tell how he even makes them sometimes. his utilization of panning techniques is a real mindfuck as well. you can tell the LSD influence in his tunes haha, but really great stuff. i love how overall the songs are quite soft and quaint but there is a subtle sense of pulsing rhythm that keeps your head nodding weightlessly, i mean there are drum fills all over the place that keep the groove going but it's never in a way that's like OH HEY LOOK THESE ARE THE DRUMS. that might be something i'm only not used to because not too long ago i listened almost exclusively to pop-punk, but it caught my ear nonetheless haha. his use of synthesizers is incredibly effective as well, they're implemented strictly for the atmospheric and tasteful vibes they can produce, but not to make the album sound mechanical; i perceived the general sound to be pretty organic.

if you are a musician, no matter how talented you are, you only wish you could be as creative with your arrangements as this guy. god there are so many fucking layers of production to Andorra it is unbelievable, and it's all support for a fantastic sense of pop melody. it is seriously the best-produced album i have heard, and he recorded and produced it all himself.

Lack of exposure. Also, he's Canadian. BSS and AF aren't fussed over enough here either.

haha dont even get me started on bands i love that dont get discussed around here. theres a very compartmentalized sect of alternative music that the more well-versed music listeners of this site tend to jock but it hardly represents my own music demographic, and the rest is just scene music. i tried so hard to get people to pay attention to american analog set.

the milk of human kindness rules. now, before i get too ahead of myself, andorra is decidedly better and more grounded; comparing the two is like comparing the flaming lips' "at war with the mystics" to their "the soft bulletin." in each case, the former exhibits all of the band's different strong points pushed to their extremes, creating a polarizing album that visits all sides of the spectrum and shows the different songwriting frameworks that the band is capable of, while the latter features those skills channeled into very effective and cohesive songwriting/album format. nonetheless though, dan snaith played with so many different aesthetics within his electronica framework without once sacrificing or apologizing for his limitless potential as a producer, and even if some of the tracks were more fucking around than actual songs, the details consistently held my attention, and the record was full of awesome surprises.

man im gonna keep fucking bumping this thread. you all need to listen to this guy, this thread deserves way more posts than it has.
I've still yet to get into this artist. I bought The Milk of Human Kindness back when it came out but didn't like it at all. I'll have to go back to it sometime.

While it's on my mind Ryan, I just made an official thread for John Vanderslice. Considering your obessesion with production, you might really enjoy him as that's one of his greatest strengths of composing his music.

dude i just listened to life and death of an american fourtracker the other day. i was fucking stunned what he was able to do analog with that record, i went in expecting minimalistic singer songwriter material so it was full of surprises. absolutely brilliant.

Well I'm so glad to hear that. I HIGHLY recommend that you check out Emerald City and Pixel Revolt. (Although a lot of people will tell you Cellar Door is his best) I think you'll find a lot to like on those albums, lyrically and especially production wise.

im so melodically oriented as a musician and a music listener that i never really noticed this before, but Andorra is just as brilliant with its percussion as it is tunefully. my speakers are more bassy, and i spent part of last night with caribou on them, just jamming out to those drums and bongos and electronics.

Up In Flames is ridiculously good so far. finally feel like i've found an album that confirms Snaith is as brilliant as i think he is and not just a one album wonder. Andorra's still tops though.

hahaha what the fuck, it's been almost exactly year since i posted that last post and i just came in here again to say something about the same album. i haven't listened to Up In Flames much since i lost all my music on my old laptop but i revisited it last night and that is just some of the craizest music haha. it's a little too repetitive at times but every time i'd start getting bored, the music would go through some kind of fucked up, complex transition and grab my attention again. i couldn't listen to that album all the time, but damn is it great when you're blazed as hell and looking for a change of pace with your music.
also i love how much of Dan's drumming is featured on it, he's sick on a set. i kind of wish Caribou's newer music placed more emphasis on a real drum set than electronic percussion.
