View Full Version : Songs Ruined by Singing

Here It Goes

Have you ever heard a song that sounded good during the intro, only to be utterly ruined by lackluster or pathetic singing?

Case in point: I heard this song the other day called "Broke" by a band called Captain, the first 15 seconds of which are pretty catchy, and then this guy starts singing. I have no idea what ever possessed this man to think he should sing in a band. Observe.

Side point: This video is gay and also f'ed up.

Any and every Chiodos song.

See, that's what I knew someone would say. "XXXXX sucks because they have XXXXXX XXXXXXXX for a singer." Don't do that.

Would anyone listen to Chiodos if Craig Owens weren't singing? No.

as long as the voice doesnt sound too forced/fake, and isnt off pitch, "poor" vocals arent going to deter me from music. in a lot of cases, an unusual, quirky, or strong voice can actually add character and make the music seem more honest. the weakerthans are a big example of this, i actually like his vocals even though i see where they would turn other people off.

i don't think he's a terrible singer. i think their voices complement each other well.

The video is what ruined it the most. I mean, who does this guy fucking think he is?

You're half right... John K. Samson has a very earnest voice, but the guy in this video is just bland as hell. Nothing earnest about it. John K isn't bland at all. And is roughly a billion times better lyricist than this guy too, judging by this song.

I would listen to Chiodos if there was no singing more than I would if he was singing.

I would. They are decent, if a little bit generic, Post Hardcore band that is fun to listen to, Craig's cat-wales are just unbearable.

The best way to listen to chiodos is in karaoke mode. No more vocals.

Not that his voice is excellent, but what's so bad about it? Not high pitched enough for you?

lol

How about some sort of illusion of vocal control. He just lets the shit slip all the fucking time. It hurts my ears.

The Human Abstract are just a poor man's Protest The Hero, except with a much more Hardcore oriented vocalist that relies too much on boring screams.

The perfect answer to this is:

Killswitch Engage/My Curse

Killswitch is the opposite of this forum, because Howard's cleans rule, but the rest of the band suck.
