I just moved back into school this morning so these are a bit rushed, but here is what I've got for you this week.
The Unicorns (http://www.theunicorns.com) - I don't really know if you can explain music like this. It's indie music, it's very interesting. I always try to get people into this band but it doesn't often happen, but I really enjoy them.
Days Away (http://www.daysawaymusic.com) - purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/daysaway/) -I know this isn't a new band and most of you have heard about them, but you really should check them out. Their music is amazing, such melodic vocals. The new album won't disappoint you.
Gatsby's American Dream (http://www.gatsbysamericandream.com) - purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/gatsbysamericandream) - I just started listening to this band recently even though they've been around for awhile. Definitely check out "The Dragon of Pendor", that's my favorite track off the EP.
Onelinedrawing (http://www.jonahmatranga.com) - purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/onelinedrawing) - I just have to do onelinedrawing. I know with the Gratitude album coming up there has been a lot of hype surrounding Jonah being on MTV and on a major label and some people might say that's why I'm posting this but I can assure you that's not the case. The Onelinedrawing albums/EP's have affected me more than any music has in my life. Jonah is an amazing friend and an even more amazing musician, people like him make me want to work in this industry. Recommended songs: Savory, Yr Letter, Better Than This, Superhero, Livin' Small
Enjoy, thanks for checking these out.
Days Away- mapping an invisible world...mmmmmmmmm

the unicorns broke up :(
dont think thats neccesarily true. They have not released any statement as a band. I think it was just message board gossip.

i really hope the unicorns didn't break up. i'm not a big fan of unicorns are people too but who will cut our hair when we're gone? is a great album.
gastsby's american dream...i just don't understand all the hype around them. i downloaded why we fight and ribbons & sugar early last year and just could never get into them. they just seem like the typical emo band to me, and i can't stand that stuff anymore.

I actually said the same thing as you a few months back. I got ribbons & sugar and wasn't really into it, but I really like the new EP, it sounds a lot different to me, but who knows.

:( i only started listening to them over the summer and i skipped their show in october with ben kweller, thinking there'd be another chance to see them when i actually had some money. i really wish i hadn't now.
and yeah...it is really abstract, a little too much for me to listen to sometimes.
Like everyone is saying, The Unicorns are amazing. Everyone needs to check out Two Gallants also

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH my eyes are bleeding after reading that statement. omg. Ok Kelley, first of all - how can a band POSSIBLY be a typical emo band if they have no choruses? Gatsby's has a grand total of 2 songs with choruses in them from all 3 of their albums. They change time signatures every 10 seconds on Ribbons and Sugar - the point of the band is that they ARE different from everything else out there. You should REALLY go back and give it a second listen, because it's some of the most unique music out there...especially Ribbons and Sugar. If you could explain HOW they are typical, please do, because you're wrong and I want to know why. Excuse me for being overly defensive, but Gatsby's is possibly my favorite band and that statement comes across as ignorant to me.

i'm sorry! i knew that saying that could possibly cause a bunch of "what the hell, kelley?" replies since they're loved by just about everyone at this site. i guess i'm just not a fan of his vocals, that's what made me say they remind me of the "typical emo band." it really has nothing to do with the music itself, if that makes any sense to anyone besides me. i suppose i'll give ribbons and sugar another try and see if i grow to like it.
and don't worry about being overly defensive; i get that way sometimes too. at least you can do it in an intelligent way.

Scott that has GOT to be the first time anything you've done has ever been referred to as intelligent.

dude. their name is gatsby's american dream. that's enough to make them amazing as it is. secondly, yeah there are NO other bands that could sound like them if they wanted to. well, forgive durden comes close, but they are equally as amazing. ask yourself what gatsbys can do for you.
