Jay Nemeyer – 903 EP
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: September 2008

Jay Nemeyer presents himself as an avid fan of classic rock grounded in gritty blues tones, which he delivers proudly on his recent EP simply called 903. The EP is only 3-tracks in length but his music is as American-based as the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, as folk rock as Ryan Adams, and smeared in grit-inspired blues as heavily as Earl Greyhound.

Nemeyer’s chordal formations have raw edges and his vocals purvey a folksy temperament, which comes through stoutly in “Sundress.” The loops of harmonica twitters move with a soulful spirit and the fluid acoustic guitar strokes brush gently across Nemeyer’s vocals giving the tune a generous amount of warmth. The song is the centerpiece of the EP and gives audiences a quick taste of Nemeyer’s skill to create ballad type folk songs. The other two tracks, “Tell Me When” and “Hold Your Hand” have classic rock inflections and husky drumbeats with phat muscular rounds. This is where Nemeyer displays his skill to kick up the momentum and coat his songs in stylized blue-collar rock relatable to Ryan Adams.

As a singer and songwriter, Jay Nemeyer is a burgeoning artist who is working at adjusting his footing and carving out his own niche. He sounds like he is keeping his options open and exploring all possibilities that he finds for his music. It is an expedition that he is taking fans on while he moves through the phases and growth spurts, which are bound to take him to places that he would have never guessed was in him.

Ryan Adams, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Earl Greyhound, The Heavy
