also, thanks for mentioning the nation of ulysses. great review. although it seems what you really like about this album is the experimentation. it makes me wonder how you would review an earlier album like "songs to fan the flames"

I think this is, without question, their best album. However, I do very much enjoy their earlier records, including Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent.

it was a good review, the expirementation is a big part of this album...refused are fucking dead, oh man what can you say...look at even these threads, this album came out 6 almost 7 years ago, and there is still people realizing they need it...it will be relevant for a long time.

Great review Ryan. I think some bands/records to cover that helped to provide a foundation would be: Fugazi, Rites of Spring, and Quicksand.

If this album is a 9.8, what album would you consider a 10? Whats interesting is Refused had announced their departure prior to the release of this album. It's difficult for bands to branch out and create an experimental album and have it be their biggest success. Refused did this with their final album, and definitly changed the shape of 'punk', 'hardcore', and everything inbetween. 7 years later, there isnt an album that comes close to this...

i waited a long time to buy this cd, but since i've bought it, it's been at the top of my list. i love this cd. and yeah, ghost you are, refused are fucking dead is incredible. the guitar line is great. awesome album

I can never answer with a yes or no to the question "is this the best fucking cd ever or what?". I mean, I'm from Sweden, sure, so i grew up going to local shows were bands such as refused played, and i'm a techhead when it comes to music so i absolutley love electronical experimentation coupled with hardcore songs.

But this cd really misses what it's aiming for in alot of places, which is also why the band broke up. Sure, there's no doubt that some songs on this cd totally rips shit up from the beginning to the end, and the experimentation isn't just "let's do moshcore with angry tb303 basslines!", which is great, but this cd just misses it's goal a few times, it could've been so much better, and actually the majority of the people i know feel the same way. Well if this cd were released as a debut by a band from kansas i would probably think it was the most asesome thing ever. But thing is, refused incorporated electronics in their earlier songs live too, and totally rearranged them, which made them mindblowing every single time, but these songs on the other hand, were written that way, which left out the songwriting they earlier had and went straight to the sound they had in a live-setting. Still it's awesome, it's easily a 4/5, it just could've been alot more.

it had no release information on it at all, HMV doesn't seem to have it either
