first off there are few regulars, and its always very inactive--most threads get 3 or 4 answers and never get looked at again. people post threads asking the same questions over and over again and they always get similar answers. quite frankly i dont think its wide enough a field of discussion to have its own forum. i think instead there should be an official musicians thread in general or in music. that way we could stimulate more conversation among the obviously higher number of musicians on this site than those who post in the existing forum, and wouldnt have to make a new thread every time the last one about which telecaster is the best or how to get a specific tone or how music theory works has dropped off the two pages.

Hmm... kind of agree but disagree at the same time.

I've found out a fair few things from that forum, and it's helped me quite a lot in the short time I've been posting here,
And I know it'll just get lost in the general or music forum, it's not doing that much harm having it's own forum is it?

maybe if it gets enough hits they'll sticky it. i just feel its separation is whats causing the inactivity, and the inactivity is causing more inactivity becuase there are loads of musicians on this site but no one bothers to go in there becuase there is so little conversation and posting going on in there. i feel it would attract a lot more attention if it were made into an official thread in the music forum.

I check it daily or more, there always seem to be a couple new posts in there every day. That's how most of the forums under the Interactive/feedback Forums section are. I feel like if it was in a different forum it would be much more difficult to follow and get or give real answers. I don't know though.

This is true really. We all know that real discussion will become lost in just one thread; it could just turn into one big chat thread. Plus, a lot of people either won't bother to check that thread or won't be able to keep up with it.

even when discussion becomes irrelevant the main topic of the thread always recurs. and besides, i think thats kind of what im aiming for, a thread for discussion among a large number of musicians, as opposed to how it is now, where you only get involved in discussion if you're either extremely naive and have a vague question or if you're extremely knowledgable and have an indepth answer for vague questions. idk, maybe we can have both, we could have the musician forum for advice and help, and i'd create an additional musicians thread in the music forum for the purpose of discussion/community as long as a staff member didnt close or move it.

Yeah... I think it might be a good idea if we had a discussion thread in there, and see how it goes. Then we could just discuss general gear, etc.

Ask Jason if you want, he's the only one who controls what forums exist and whatnot. I'd be pretty surprised if he wanted to change it though.

i wasnt gonna change it, i was saying keep the musician forum for advice (since thats all its basically there for now) and create an official musicians thread in the music forum to stimulate more discussion and community. there are a lot of musicians in there that never go into the musician forum because its so inactive.

Just do it man. It can only get closed
I can't really see that happening though.

Go for it if you want. I won't lock it, but I don't know about other staff.
